Psychopaths: born evil?

When Brian Dugan pleaded guilty to the brutal rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl, Jeanine Nicarico, he
seemed to be a typical brutal serial killer. She was murdered in 1983, though Dugan only pleaded guilty in 2009. He
was also convicted of rape several times over, and two other murders. This included a seven-year-old girl and a 27year-old nurse whom he forced off the road before raping and killing her. Dugan would have been executed, but the
death sentence was now no longer used in Illinois. Yet, he showed no regret for any of his murders or crimes.
Scientists now believe this lack of regret may in fact be linked to the reason he committed these acts. A
neuroscientist, Dr Kent Kiehl of the University of New Mexico, scanned Dugan's brain, and found that Dugan didn't
understand why people cared about what he had done. He found that there was little activity in the part of Dugan's
brain that controls emotions.

rules and regulation. For example stealing property from a school is a deviant behaviour and smoking inside a
shop.

1) People may become criminals by the way they were brought up as a child; given no money- later theyll steal
from a person to buy what they want, Compared to someone that received items they wanted as a child.
2) A person can become a criminal if they are poorly socialised and they see a criminal as a role model, peer
pressure can be applied onto someone to commit crime to perform self-fulfilling prophecy to redeem
his/hers place in society.
