He sighed, already knowing what she was going to tell him "Alright then where ar
e you now?"
"Um... Some where after the Texas State line" she told him sheepishly over the p
hone.
"Well I take it that you're going to spend the night there?" He already knew the
answer but if she had to guess why he had said it out loud,
it was probably to let Lane feel somewhat guilty. Deciding to go along with the
idea she added more to the sentence
"Maybe a few days, I'm not sure if I can handle being in school around Lane righ
t now" she said loud enough into the phone to know that Lane was listening in.
"I need a few days to get my head together, it's just that....the fight we had,
we had left it at a few choice words and I need
pull myself together otherwise I don't think I could handle it" Pouring emotion
into her voice, the same feelings that she had
felt when they were having that fight.
"Alright then, You take as long as you need. Just don't get into any trouble, yo
u hear me young lady?!"
She smile "Yes Sir, I will not get into any trouble" Sarah emphised the *I* as
a loop hole to have some fun.
"Bye dad!"
"Bye honey" and just before she hung up, she swore that she could hear a shout o
ver the line that had come from lane as her father disconnected the line.
She snapped her phone shut and decided to go down stairs in the lounge where the
noise had been steadily building for the past hour.
It was a biker's motel so there were people that she could mingle with. With tha
t in mind she made her way downstairs intent
on having some fun before the day was out.
----------A few hours ago-------Lane was ready to tear his hair out, after his confrontation with Sarah she hadn
't turned up for class.
Apparently she had taken leave for the next few days, he couldn't help but feel
guilty but was too pissed to have that feeling for long.
As the day wore on, there were rumors going around that she had ditched school a
nd was seen riding out on a black motorbike.
Feeling somewhat worried he suddenly remember the last incident that she had ski
pped school,
a close family member had died and she had suddenly gone with the bike. He had w
aited for a week before
she had reemerged and if she hadn't arrived when she did, he would have gone str
aight to her parents and demanded to know where she was.
It was also the time he had realized how much he missed her company, her presenc
e as a friend, as someone who would listen.
Hoping the rumors weren't true Lane drove out to the nearest empty stretch of ro
ad he could find and had arrived just
in time to see her drive off on that bike recklessly. He had tried to catch up b
ut she had been too quick.
He knew that she had seen and identified him but she still drove off, a stab of
hurt and guilt had made itself known in his chest.
Lane refused to acknowledge it's source as his heart.
After being left behind in the dust, Lane quickly made his way to Sarah's house
and had spent the next few hours
demanding that they find her or call her back. He simply put it off as something
that friends would do for each other.
When the phone rang to her father, he had paid no attention but then it was put
on loud speaker. It was Sarah.
"Hey Dad" She greeted before he could open his mouth.
'She sounds tired' was his first thought
"Hey Sarah, now is there a reason why your school mate by the name of Lane is he
re at our house asking for
you and trying to convince us to send a search party after you had left in a huf
f and him in the dust?"
Her father asked straight away, making Lane feel foolish and awkward.
"Well...He and I had a bit of a fight and you know how I deal with my anger" She
told her father,
there was something about the way she had said it, like she was....'Damn it! I c
an't put my finger on it!'
Lane thought to himself, there was something that was bugging him and it wasn't
the guilt.
