COMPETITION GUIDELINES
Competition: WELDING
Purpose:
To evaluate each contestants preparation for employment and to recognize
outstanding students for excellence and professionalism in the field of welding.
Clothing Requirements:
Eligibility:
Open to active SkillsUSA members enrolled in vocational programs with entry
level skills as the occupational objective.
Safety Requirement:
Both the instructor and the contestant certify by agreeing to enter this contest that
the contestant has received instruction and has satisfactorily passed an examination on the
safe use of all power tools. Further they agree that SkillsUSA, North Montco Technical
Career Center, the SkillsUSA Championships Technical Committee and judges are
released from all responsibility relating to personal injuries resulting from their use.
Contestants will be removed from competition if proper training has not been provided
and/or they are using the equipment in an unsafe manner.

Safety
1. Demonstrate personal safety
2. Demonstrate general shop safety
3. Demonstrate gas, electrical and chemical safety
4. Demonstrate knowledge of proper actions to be taken in an
emergency
b. Measurements
1. Identify basic measuring tools used in the metal working trade
2. use measuring tools to an accuracy of 1/32 of an inch
3. Demonstrate proper use of a combination square set.
4. Use layout and marking tools as required
c. Print reading
1. Use information found in the title block of the print
2. Read and understand three dimensional drawings
3. Identify common types of lines, abbreviations and symbols in
accordance with national drawing standards ANSI
4. Identify basic welding symbols and parts of a symbol in
accordance with the national welding symbols standards
Skill/test
Contestants will demonstrate their ability to perform jobs and skills selected from
the following list of competencies:
