Be familiar with the Course Requirements and the Key Terms used at NTU
Programme refers to the field of study or the Major that you are admitted into: e.g.,
Chinese, Economics, English, History, Psychology, Philosophy, Public Policy and
Global Affairs, Linguistics and Multilingual Studies or Sociology.
Each programme in HSS requires that you complete a distribution of courses, which
are
individual
modules.
Visit
the
HSS
website
at
http://www.hss.ntu.edu.sg/Pages/Home.aspx for the course requirements for the
Major offered by your Division. Students admitted to NTU since 2011 are following
the new BRC curriculum.
You can also opt to take up a Minor (or up to 2 Minors) in another discipline in HSS
or any other School. The Minor allows you to pursue your other interests or to
complement your Major. A Minor typically requires completion of 5 courses in the
chosen discipline.
Each course carries weights called Academic Units (AUs); each course typically
makes up either 3 or 4 AUs.
To graduate, students must complete a minimum number of AUs. With effect from
2011, all HSS freshmen will require 126 AUs to graduate.
Each course consists of 2 sets of requirements:

You can fulfill these requirements at any time during your undergraduate studies in
NTU.
Students with Polytechnic Diplomas are eligible for exemptions from up to 2 of the
GER-PEs above. The School will be getting in touch with the Polytechnic graduates
on the details of the exemptions.
GER-Unrestricted (General) Electives (UE)
You can choose any General Elective that has no prerequisite.
Note that some General Electives go towards fulfilling the requirements of a Minor.
If you wish to obtain a Minor in another discipline, check out the Minor requirements.

studies and only on condition that you perform sufficiently well in your 1st Year.
