Sunday, January 11, 2015 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Mark 8:36 KJV A TIME TO PONDER The Year 2015 is here, and January is on a speed gear. We are already on the eleventh day of January. What this tells me is that time is not on our side. And truly speaking, time waits for no one. Yesterday, I attended a funeral service of someone I knew very well. His love for his children was immeasurable. Seeing him in his casket spoke volumes to me. His days on earth are over. His projects, his toiling, his aspirations, his expectations, and you just name it; they are all over. He cannot come back to amend the things he did not do very well. And Solomon in his wisdom said in Ecclesiastes 9:5-6, For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not anything, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion forever in anything that is done under the sun. All that remains of us is to wish they lived right while they had their breadth in them; for it is written in Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. Beloved, life is like a vapor; it is very unpredictable. You must therefore make a very good use of every moment you have while you are still alive, for death is a journey of no return. Fanny Cosby wrote in her song saying, Fading away like the stars of the morning, losing their light in the glorious sun, thus would we pass from the earth and its toiling, only remembered by what we have done. I want to believe that you have taken thoughts of tomorrow, preparing yourself now, such that if your time comes to exit this world, you will neither be afraid, nor be found wanting. Its time to ponder over your life. Today, a lot of people live as though there is no time of accountability before God on their lives on earth. This is a strategy of the devil to lure man into fulfilling his evil will. Saint Paul lamented over the lives the people lived in his time and cautioned in Galatians 6:7, Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. I once went to settle a conflict between a Christian couple and what I heard was alarming. The wifes displeasure was that the husband was never there for her nor for the children. She wanted him to come to Church with them as a family. She wanted a time of family devotion and Bible Study together as a family. The mans defense was that he had to make the money to support the family, and to buttress his point, he had just bought her a Toyota Siena for them to have a comfortable ride to the church; so why should she complain as though he was not providing for her and the family. This man had no eternity in mind but the wife, she held on to Mark 8:36, For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Friend, eternity is very real, and the very reason you are here on earth is to prepare for that eternity. On this thought, John Tillotson, a Seventeenth Century English Theologian, and Archbishop of Canterbury said, He who provides for this life, but takes no care for eternity, is wise for a moment, but fool forever. God gave us the provision to enjoy this world as much as we can, and still enjoy eternity with him forever. The choice is ours to make; and the sooner we make the right choice, the sooner we begin to enjoy our life in Joyful Living experience. And this is Gods desire for us. Amen? Prayer Point: O Lord, teach me to number my days so that I can apply my heart unto wisdom. Help me to live with eternity in mind. In Jesus Name, Amen!
