Drilling Machine
A drilling machines are devices used to cut holes into or through metal, wood, or other
materials. Drilling machines use a drilling tool that has cutting edges at its point. It may be used
to perform other operations. They can perform operations other than drilling, such as
countersinking, counterboring, reaming, and tapping large or small holes. This device is made of
a tapered shank rotated by a motor. Most drilling machines are made of hard elements like
diamond or steel. There are two types of drilling machines used for repairing and fabricating
needed parts, they are hand-feed and power-feed. Other types of drilling machines, such as the
radial drill press. Numerically controlled drilling machine. multiple spindle drilling machine,
gang drilling machine, and turret drill press, are all variations of the basic hand and power-feed
drilling machines. They are designed for high-speed production and industrial shops.
There are many components in drilling machine, and for each component it has own
material. They can be from iron, steel, etc. For the component itself there are.
a) Power Range (on/off switch) --- made from Plastic or Aluminum
The power range can be switched to three different
positions: high, low and off. The ranges allow varying
levels of pressure for the machine to drill different sized
holes into different kinds of materials. For example, the low
range is used to drill large holes in metal. The high range is
used to drill small holes into softer materials such as wood.
b) Table --- made from Steel
The table is the base of the drilling machine and is the
surface used to keep the vise in its place. Most of the time,
the table can be swiveled out of the way to make it easier to
drill holes in pieces that are oddly shaped.
c) Vise --- made from Steel
The vise is a device such as a clamp used to hold the material that is being drilled firmly in
place. A vise has two jaws that may be brought together or separated by a lever.
d) Drill Chuck and Spindle --- made from Low Carbon Steel
The drill chuck holds the drilling tools such as a drill bit, which is tool used to create
cylindrical holes. The chuck is raised and lowered using the feed lever. Chucks come in
different sizes which depend on the diameter of the largest drill bits that can be used. The
spindle holds the drill chuck, which holds the cutting tools such as drill bits and center drills
