Drilling Machine
A drilling machines are devices used to cut holes into or through metal, wood, or other
materials. Drilling machines use a drilling tool that has cutting edges at its point. It may be used
to perform other operations. They can perform operations other than drilling, such as
countersinking, counterboring, reaming, and tapping large or small holes. This device is made of
a tapered shank rotated by a motor. Most drilling machines are made of hard elements like
diamond or steel. There are two types of drilling machines used for repairing and fabricating
needed parts, they are hand-feed and power-feed. Other types of drilling machines, such as the
radial drill press. Numerically controlled drilling machine. multiple spindle drilling machine,
gang drilling machine, and turret drill press, are all variations of the basic hand and power-feed
drilling machines. They are designed for high-speed production and industrial shops.
There are many components in drilling machine, and for each component it has own
material. They can be from iron, steel, etc. For the component itself there are.
a) Power Range (on/off switch) --- made from Plastic or Aluminum
The power range can be switched to three different
positions: high, low and off. The ranges allow varying
levels of pressure for the machine to drill different sized
holes into different kinds of materials. For example, the low
range is used to drill large holes in metal. The high range is
used to drill small holes into softer materials such as wood.
b) Table --- made from Steel
The table is the base of the drilling machine and is the
surface used to keep the vise in its place. Most of the time,
the table can be swiveled out of the way to make it easier to
drill holes in pieces that are oddly shaped.
c) Vise --- made from Steel
The vise is a device such as a clamp used to hold the material that is being drilled firmly in
place. A vise has two jaws that may be brought together or separated by a lever.
d) Drill Chuck and Spindle --- made from Low Carbon Steel
The drill chuck holds the drilling tools such as a drill bit, which is tool used to create
cylindrical holes. The chuck is raised and lowered using the feed lever. Chucks come in
different sizes which depend on the diameter of the largest drill bits that can be used. The
spindle holds the drill chuck, which holds the cutting tools such as drill bits and center drills

e)

Spindle Speed --- made from Plastic and Steel

The two spindle speeds are high and low. The spindle speeds can be changed while the
motor of the drill machine is running. The speed of the spindle depends on the size of the
drill used and the material being drilled.
f) Feed Lever --- made from Iron
The feed lever is used to raise and lower the drill bit so that holes can be cut accurately. It
usually has two or three handles to allow the user to control the spindle.
g) Depth Gauge --- made from Aluminum and iron
The depth gauge is used to control the depth of the hole being drilled. Sometimes, the user
may not want to drill holes that go all the way through the material and the depth gauge will
be able to control this.
There are 6 step to operate Drilling machine.
1) Wear Safety Equipment
You will need ear protection and eye protection. You will also find it safer to wear long
sleeves and pants. Debris does fall from the bench drill press and can get onto and irritate
your skin.
2) Mark Your Material
Use a marker to mark your scrap wood in three places. You will need to practice with
different bits and different depths in order to know how to use your machine.
3) Clamp It and Align It
The vise keeps your material in place so you can focus on the drill. If your bench drill press
does not have a vise, a clamp on the edge of your work bench will likely suffice. Make sure
that you use the manual lever to align the material.
4) Choose the Bit
You will want to choose and install the best bit for the job and you need different bits for
wood and metal. Loosen the chuck with the chuck key and install the correct bit. You can
complete this step at any time before you actually start to drill.
5) Set the Depth Stop
Use the depth stop to set the proper depth for the hole. Many holes go all the way through
the material so the depth stop will not be an issue. The depth stop is located on the right side
of the bench drill press, directly next to the manual lever.
6) Drill It
Turn the bench drill press on and bring it to the speed that you wish to drill at. If you are
unsure, start with a medium drill speed and adjust from there. Use the manual pull and
slowly bring the bit down to meet the wood. You do not want to without being at speed or
the hole may be jagged.
If we want to Maintenance of Drilling Machine the device must be turn off. These are the
maintenance of drilling maintenance.
1) If we use small drill shank, dont press to hard to the object in we want to make a hole..
2) Use the right drill shank according to specification in order to prevent broken drill shank.
3) Do the maintenance to the belt every 3 months to see the belt is in good or bad condition. If
the belt is in bad condition we should change the belt.
4) Put a light coat of oil on a moving part (such as gears, spindle, etc) to prevent rust.
5) Clean the drilling machine after use it.

1 ) Memakai Alat Keselamatan
