Objectives (non-LINUS) :
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Read a paragraph of 3-5 simple sentences.
2. Read simple texts of fiction stories with guidance.
Activities (non-LINUS):
1. Teacher shows the pictures of people doing activities on the beach. Pupils tell
what type of activities could be done on the beach.
2. Teacher introduces the characters from the story Mystery in the Box which
are Tina and her sister.
3. Pupils read aloud the story Mystery In The Box.
4. Teacher asks Wh-questions based on the text eg Where did Tina and her
sister went for a walk?, What did they saw on the beach?, What did they do
with the ball? Who ran after the ball? Why did Tania take the ball?.
5. Teacher discuss the ending with pupils by asking What do you think was in
the box?
Objectives (LINUS) :
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. say the phoneme // correctly; and
ii. match words with pictures.
Activities (LINUS):
Set Induction:
a. Say a tongue twister focused on the // sound.
Ollie the ox is on the mop. Pupils repeat a few times but with a faster speed.
Step 1:g
a.Post lyrics on the board. (Appendix 3)
b. Sing together with pupils the song learnt in the previous lesson.
c. Replace pictures instead of words. (Appendix 2)
d. Place word cards at the side of the board. (Appendix 4). Read together with pupils.
e. Teacher say words with the // sound, point to the picture.
f. Take the correct word card and paste it on/above the picture. Repeat reading with pupils.
g. Let pupils decide where to put the word cards.
Step 3:
a. Divide pupils in groups.
b. Give out a set of word cards and manila cards with lyrics and missing words to groups.
c. Pupils paste the word cards in the correct space provided.
d. The fastest group to complete correctly wins the game
Step 4:
a. Give out worksheets to each pupil. (Appendix 5)
b. Pupils match words and pictures.
Consolidation:
a. Repeat singing the song with action of the // sound together with pupils

Objectives (non-LINUS) :
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Able to spell words from stories Mystery in the Box such as walk, sister,
birds,ships,ball,rocks and box.
2. Write 3-5 word sentences with guidance.
Activities (non-LINUS):
1. Teacher divides pupils into groups. Teacher writes a word from the word list
on the board e.g. elephants, photograph, transportation, afternoon, alphabet.
2. Pupils form as many words as they can from the given word.
3. The leader of each group reads out the list of words.
4. Teacher gives mark based on the words listed.
5. Pupils complete the writing exercise in the activity book.
6. Pupils recall the story Mystery in The Box. Pupils spell the above words and
write the story by replacing the pictures with words.
Objectives (LINUS) :
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
i. write the letter o correctly; and
ii. complete a worksheet
Activities (LINUS):
Step 1:
a. Show pupils to form squiggles from left to right.
b. Pupils follow the teacher by drawing squiggles in the air.
c. Give pupils blank papers and crayons or use their writing books.
d. Pupils draw squiggles in the air.
Step 2:
a. Get pupils to do the action for // and say //.
b. Show how to write uppercase O and lowercase o.
c. Say around and up around to encourage pupils to listen and follow.
Step 3:
a. Distribute plasticine to pupils.
b. Get pupils to form the letter o.
Step 4:
a. Show picture cards and get pupils to say the words.
b. Next, teacher says //..o.
example: ox /o/o
c. Repeat with other words learnt.
Step 5:
a. Distribute worksheet. (Appendix 6)
b. Pupils circle the letters o found on the octopus and colour it.
c. Pupils trace and write the letter o correctly.
