K to 12 ART CURRICULUM FOR GRADE THREE
NATIONAL TRAINING OF TRAINERS
Title

Understanding and Appreciating the ARTS CF, CG, TG, LM

Objectives

In this learning session, participants should be able to:


1. Discuss the conceptual framework and contents of K to 12 Arts Curriculum
2. Demonstrate how to use the Curriculum Guide, Teachers Guide, and
Learners Materials.
3. Show appreciation of the curriculum in developing and producing a holistic
Filipino learner/child.

Overview
The K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum shall be implemented focusing with the roll-out of
Grade III in all public elementary schools. The Grade III Arts program focuses on providing third grade
learners with art experiences that include performing, creating, observing, appreciating and critiquing
their own artistic works and the works of others. The instruction under the new scheme starts with
creative exploration of materials, processes and concepts. Grade III Arts as part of MAPEH subject is
new to the primary grade teachers. Therefore, there is a need for teachers who will be handling Grade
III learners to have an overview to the new curriculum.
Arts or Sining is one of the vital components in the subject MAPEH in elementary level as part
of the K to12 Basic Education Curriculum. It addresses and ensures that learners are able to
demonstrate an understanding of basic processes in arts through appreciation, analysis and
performance.
As front liners of the program delivery, they need to encourage creativity and sustain artistic
interest among their pupils. They should continuously gather firsthand information and enrich their
learning experiences in visual art and other forms of arts. Therefore, this session is designed for the
participants to enhance their teaching skills and gain ideas regarding methodology in teaching Arts as
well as familiarize the domains of Discipline Based Art Education (DBAE)

A. Activity (20 mins)


1. PHOTOZZLE
1. Group the participants into eight.
2. Provide each group a puzzle.
3. Each group should form the puzzle within a minute.
4. Based from the formed puzzle, let them fill in the missing letters to complete the word.

B. Analysis (30 mins)


1. How do you feel about your group output? Why?
Possible Answers:
I feel proud because I was able to form the puzzle within the given time.
I feel happy because I helped the group give the correct answer.
2. What kind of artwork was formed in the puzzle?
Drawing, Painting, Printmaking, 3D and Sculpture
3. As a teacher, how can you help develop the skills of grade 3 pupils in Arts?
By creating, reading, analyzing, observing, performing
4. What have you realized from the activity?
I realized that Arts is very essential in developing a holistic child.
I need to understand the processes, practices, concepts, principles etc. in teaching
Arts.
C. Abstraction (1 hr)
Discuss the important features of the K to 12 Curriculum highlighting the following points:
Powerpoint Presentations:
1. Philosophy, Rationale and Conceptual Framework of Arts
2. Contents of Arts in Grade III
3. How to Use the Curriculum Guide, Teachers Guide and Learners Material

D. Application (10 mins)


Using the Curriculum Guide, choose at least one competency and identify the appropriate
process/es, and practice/s.
