LETTER OF SUPPORT KOMS

On behalf of Krovna organizacija mladih Srbije (KOMS) we are sending you a letter of support for the
project Position of youth with disabilities in secondary education support for transition and against
discrimination, submitted by the Association of Students with Disabilities (USH) to a European Union
delegation from the EU Civil Society Facility Serbia Programme.
Based on previous experience with the Association of Students with Disabilities found on cooperation in
realization of similar project activities, we believe that it is of extreme importance for the project
Position of youth with disabilities in secondary education support for transition and against
discrimination to be realized so as to provide support to young people with disabilities in their
transition from secondary to higher education, identify the reasons for discrimination among youth,
influence the reduction of discrimination and with that enable implementation of development
strategies regarding youth and members of socially vulnerable groups.
The main reasons for which Krovna organizacija mladih Srbije recommends the realization of the
aforementioned project are the awareness of the social distance and discrimination which exists among
youth towards young people with disabilities. This project affects the reduction of that distance with the
use of methodologically well chosen means, it encourages young people with disabilities to be engaged,
and creates a supporting environment for them by strengthening the peer community. In addition, it
influences the strengthening of possibilities of youth in secondary schools through workshops. The
project will be very important for everyone who works with youth and wishes to affect engagement of
socially vulnerable youth groups because they will affect the acquisition of knowledge and reduction of
social distance.
As the activities suggested in the project greatly coincide with our vision and mission, especially the
strategic goal of active involvement of youth in the social community, KOMS will, as a partner,
participate in realization of them.
Krovna organizacija mladih Srbije (KOMS) is the highest independent representative body of young
people in Serbia whose mission is to advocate interests of youth in Serbia by developing partnerships
with the state, intersectoral and international cooperation, encouraging active involvement of youth
and organizational development of its members. KOMS currently counts 81 members (associations of
youth and for the young) throughout the whole of Serbia
