2 Saving Your Existing Phone Data

The first thing you need to do is to save the data from your old phone. To allow you to do this we've
written an application that will copy your data onto your phone's storage card. The application you
need will depend on the type of phone you have. We currently support Windows Mobile, Symbian
(that's nearly all Nokia phones) and BlackBerry. To find out how to save you data follow the
instructions in the appropriate section below.

2.1 Windows Mobile

Currently we support migrating data from Windows Mobile 5.0 and greater.
2.1.1 Installing the Windows Mobile Migration Client
The first thing you need to do is visit our website and download the latest CAB file. You can get it
from the link below.
http://www.spritesoftware.com/Products/Migrate/Migrate-Your-Data-Now/Download-Windows
If you download it onto your PC, you will need to copy it to your phone or phone's storage card to
continue. Once the CAB file is copied over, use your phone to launch it.
Tip: File Explorer is a great way to find and launch the installer.

3 Converting Your Data

If you've got this far, then you've saved your old phone data onto a storage card. The next step is to
convert that data into a format that Android can understand. For this you will need a Windows PC
running XP or higher.

3.1 Installing Sprite Converter

Visit our website and download the latest version of our conversion tool. You can get it from the link
below.
http://www.spritesoftware.com/Products/Migrate/Migrate-Your-Data-Now/Convert-Data
Once it has downloaded follow the steps below to install it onto your PC.
1. Double click on the downloaded file to launch it. If you see a security warning select 'Run' to
continue.

As you can see it is made up of three simple steps. Step one is where you select the file you want to
convert; step two is where you enter a location to save the converted file and step three is where
you start the conversion. Let's look at them in more detail.
3.2.1 Step 1 - Selecting the file to convert
Click on the browser button and in the dialog that appears select the file that was created when you
saved the data on your old device. By default this was placed onto your storage card, but if you
moved it then select the new location from here. When you have found it, click 'Open' to complete
the selection. You should now see the path to the device next to 'Current Selection:' for Step 1.
3.2.2 Step 2 - Selecting an place to save the converted file
This is exactly the same as 'Selecting a file to convert', but this time you are selecting where you
want to save your converted file. For the last step in the migration process, you will need this new
file to be placed on your Android phone's storage card, so if you want to save it there now then you
will save some time. Else you could save it to your desktop and then copy it over to your Android
phone. DO NOT OVERWRITE YOUR ORIGINAL MIGRATION FILE.
3.2.3 Convert your data
One click is all it takes. Click 'Convert' and the converter will generate your new file all ready for
Android to load up.

4 Loading Your Data Onto Android

This is the last step of the migration. You now have a converted file produced by the PC converter
and all you need to do is load it into Android. Before we run through the steps please be aware of
the following.
When you load your migration data into Android it will erase all existing data in the categories you
select. For example when you complete migrating contacts, your Android phone will only show
the contacts from your old device, pre-existing contacts on your Android phone will be lost.
Synced contacts will be unaffected.
Let's get started.

4.1 Installing the Android Migration Application

To install the Android migration client, you will need to access the Android Market. This service is
online, so your network provider may charge you for accessing it. If you can connect your phone to
Wi-Fi, then we suggest you do this as a faster and probably cheaper option.
Start up the Android Market application of your phone. It has the icon below.

Figure 16 - Android Market Icon

Depending on your Android phone, the market will look slightly different, but the process is the
same. Search for 'sprite migrate'. There is only one Sprite, so your search should only return a single
result; select the result. Now select the 'Install' button, and then 'OK'. Wait while the application is
downloaded and installed from the market. Usually the download start immediately, but sometimes
Google takes up to 10 minutes to start the download.

4.2 Loading Your Migration Data

Copy the file you created with the converter to your phone's storage card. The file must be placed
directly onto the storage card, not in a folder.
Bring up the application list on your phone and touch the Migrate icon, as shown below.

The application will look on your storage card and will list the most recent migration file it can find.
If you would like to load a different file, use the 'Select your migration file' drop down list and choose
the file you want. When you are happy touch the 'Select Data' tab to display the screen below.

Figure 20 - Sprite Migrate Data Selection Screen

Depending on the type of phone you are migrating from, you will see different options, but the
process is the same. Simply select the data you would like to load into Android by placing a tick next
to it. For example, if you don't want to load your old call log into your new phone, them just un-tick
that item. When you have made your selection touch the 'Migrate' tab.
All that is left to do is to start the loading process. Just click 'Start Migration' and your data will be
transferred into your Android phone. When the migration is complete, reboot your phone as this
will force Android to look at all your new data and to correctly display it's details.
That's it, you've successfully brought over your old phone data!

Now that you have your data, you no longer need any of the migration software, so if you need the
space, feel free to remove it. Your migrated data will not be affected.
Thanks for using Sprite Migrate. If you have any comments or feedback, please let us know by
sending an email to helpdesk@spritesoftware.com.
