ELA 6: Lesson Plans for the Week of August 13 to

*IMPORTANT NOTE: Lesson plans are rough estimations of where we hope/expect to


be, but teachers must adjust pacing, content, and requirements in order to meet the
needs of all our students.
CCGPS ELA6 Unit 1: Foundations: Who Am I?
Focus Standards:

ELACC6W2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 10; ELACC6RL1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 10; ELACC6RI 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 10; ELACC6L 5
Literary Focus: Narratives on Identity
Writing Component: Frequent writing assignments will complement the literature noted above. Writers workshop &
evaluation of student writing will focus on content, organization, style/voice, sentence formation, usage, & mechanics.
Grammatical Component: Mini grammar lessons are based on common student errors noted during writers workshop.
*The new ELA/R CCGPS notes the following as grammatical focus concepts: pronouns (different types & correct usage), writing
complete sentences, sentence structure, capitalization, punctuation, and spelling in context.

Monday, 8/13
1.) Warm-up: Journal
2.) Brief discussion, class room expectations and procedures.
3.) Literature: Introduce The Stray by Cynthia Rylant text pages 18-23.
Vocabulary: timidly, trudged, grudgingly, ignore, exhausted (define and use in
sentences)
4.) Read story, discuss and make life connections. Introduce story elements as related to these story
events.
HW: Review vocabulary from the story; read for 30 minutes

Tuesday, 8/14
1.) Warm-up: Simple subject, simple verb
Identify simple subject and simple verb- underline subject with one line and
verb with two lines.
1. John rode his bike to the store.
2. Several people watched the explosion.
3. Ten men were given the refund.
2.) Mini-Lesson: Grammar: Root Words [define prefix and suffix] Identify root in given words.
