There are two overall assessments in this unit but to provide feedback early for students the first
assessment is in two parts - Assessment 1 has a part A and part B.
In order to pass this unit you must:

You need an overall grade of 50% or above to pass this unit

Note: The due date for assignment 1 refers to the date by which the assignment must be submitted

Description/Focu Assessment One Part A: Public Health in Australia: Research the effect of

Value: 30% of the total grade
Due Date: Sunday, Week 5 (Sunday 14th December, 2014)
2359 Central Standard Time
Length: 1500 words (excludes references, contents list (if used) and cover page)
Task: Choose one of the chronic diseases or determinant outlined below:
Oral Health
Dementia
Hearing Disorders (focus on childhood middle ear conditions)
Hypertension (high blood pressure

Your assignment should address in essay format the following public health
considerations for the chosen disease:
The burden of this disease/determinant for the Australian population
which should include epidemiological findings
Determinants of health which may contribute to the
disease/determinant manifestation and include the modifiable and
non-modifiable risk factors
Outline the primary, secondary and tertiary public health prevention
considerations for the chosen chronic disease or determinant

Preparation: Timely completion of study materials (primarily Topic 1& 2): information
pertaining to each above point can be found in the learning materials and set
text; students are encouraged to research using library resources and review
other projects/health incentives which have been done on the chosen
chronic disease/determinant in preparation for part 2 of this assessment.
Presentation: Essay format, Cover page, font 12pt either Arial preferred. 1.5 spacing.
Ensure you have a footer with page numbers and your student
name/number. If you use headings you should have a content page.
Reference list at end of document using APA style, at least 10 references
should be used including research articles (reference does not contribute to
word count). No tables, point form or diagrams please.

be same as the one you chose in part A or you can choose a different one
from the 3 below.

Prepare a detailed health promotion project plan for an innovation in chronic


disease/determinant for an Australian community. Explore how you
anticipate it will improve health outcomes for the chosen community.

Your assignment should include:


A specific health message
A health promotion prevention or management plan community
focussed.
Have a distinct target group identified for the health project
Outline the perspective health outcomes for this project plan
You can follow a health project template to base your project on such as the

Description/Focus: Assessment Two (Invigilated Examination)


Value: 40% of the total grade
Due Date: Date to be determined within University Examination Period, 23rd 27th
February, 2015. Dates and times will be released about Week 6 of semester
Length: 2 hours duration

30 Multiple Choice Questions (30 marks)


10 short answer questions (50 marks)
= total 80 marks

Preparation: External students will receive detailed information of their requirements


from External Examinations which will be emailed to their CDU student
account. Any enquiries as to locations/ exam arrangements should be
directed via e-mail to: examinations@cdu.edu.au
For the exam there will be 30 multiple choice questions (1 mark each) and
Exam Description: 10 short answer questions (5 marks each), as this is exam conditions no
references are expected. This exam is closed book- no materials are to be
taken into the exam.
