Services and Functions..... System Background ZTE Software Defined Radio (SDR) BTS family is designed and manufactured by ZTE CORPORATION. It adopts advanced SDR technology, and the hardware architecture is based on ATE unified HTCA platform. The platform features breakthrough in supporting all currently used radio access modes, including GSM, UMTS, CDMA2000, and WiMAX, and can smoothly evolve to Enhanced EDGE/LTE, 858800 is a dual-mode indoor macro base station. It supports GSM (850MH2/900MHz/1800MH2/1900MHz) and UMTS (850 MHz/900MHz/1800MHz/1900MHz/2.1GHz). {t can independently function as a GSM macro base station or a UMTS macro base station, ‘It supports the soft base station on some frequency bands (850MHz/900MH2/1800MH2/1900MH2). 858800 adopts the architecture in which baseband and RF are sep- arated. The baseband unit design adopts uTCA platform while the radio unit is based on broadband transceiver and multi-carrier PA. 888800 is mainly used in big or medium-sized cities with large traffic, such as commercial areas and airports. It can also be used in medium or small-sized cities and villages with small coverage. Through reasonable network planning, it can be adaptive to a vari~ ety of geographical environments, such as the mountainous area, hill and freeway. Position in Network ‘The GSM/EDGE/UMTS system consists of four parts: base station (8TS/Node 8), radio network controller (BSC/RNC), core network (CN), and MS/UE, as shown in Figure 1. ‘Confidential and Proprietary Information of STE CORPORATION 1 XSDR 858800 GUSEO System Description TIEN FicuRE 1 BS8800 POSITION IN GSM/EDGE/UMTS System 88800 provides the functions of a base station (BTS/Node 8). It forms the Base Station Subsystem (BS8800 BSS) with the radio network controller (BSC/RNC) Cabinet Appearance 858800 cabinet include primary cabinet and secondary cabinet. The secondary cabinet is optional. In GSM mode, when the num= ber of carriers at site exceeds 36, the capacity can be expanded through the addition of secondary cabinets: Figure 2 shows the appearance of BS8800 cabinet. 2 Confidential and Proprietary Information of STE CORPORATION TIER Chapter 1 Overview FIGURE 2 CABINET APPEARANCE 4 Secondary cabinet 2. Primary cabinet System Features 858800 has the following features BTS functions 888800 is an indoor dual-mode macro BTS, supporting GSM and UMTS System architecture 858800 adopts the architecture in which baseband and RF are separated. The RF unit (RSU) is located in the local cabinet. The baseband unit adopts the all-IP hardware platform and IP switching is provided inside BS8800 ‘Smooth evolution 858800, with UTCA platform and SDR technology, can smoothly evolve to Enhanced EDGE. In hardware, it can evolve to LTE, sharing the hardware platform with the future LTE, Capacity and configuration The system supports three types of RF units: RSU82, RSU6O, and RSU40 U2i6. The system supports 60 GSM TRXs and 30 UMTS carrier sections at most. RSUS2 is a two-transmit 4-receive RF unit, Networking capacity 88800 provides Abis/Iub interface E1/T1 and GE optical/elec~ trical interface. It supports star networking and chain network- ing ‘Confidential and Proprietary Information of STE CORPORATION 3 2XSDR 858800 GUIEO System Description TIE 858800 can meet the requirements of GSM/UMTS hybrid net- working in different scenarios. Clock and synchronization 8S8800 supports multiple clock synchronization modes: » GPS-based radio interface dock synchronization » External BITS synchronization clock input > Abis/lub-interface-£1/T1-synchronized upper-level clock GSM RF technology With flexible RF unit configuration and advanced SDR tech- nologies, BS8800 provides multiple RF technology solutions to meet capacity and coverage requirements » Downlink transmit diversity The downlink transmit diversity refers to that one carrier signal is transmitted through two antennas in a sector to form the space transmit diversity. It enhances the anti-fad= ing capability of downlink signal and increases the coverage area. » Interference Rejection Combining (IRC) The IRC technology increases the receiver's uplink sensi- tivity and increases the 8TS's uplink coverage area. When IRC is used, it is recommended that the BTS is equipped with at least two receiving antennas. » Four Way Diversity Receiving (FWDR) FWOR uses four antennas to receive uplink signals. BS8800 can provide four diversity receptions for one carrier to get the best gain. It enhances BTS's uplink receiving perfor- mance as well as reduces MS's transmission power. Using FWDR and DDT simultaneously, using FWOR and DPCT si- multaneously, or using FWDR and downlink transmit diver- sity simultaneously enables the base station to implement ultra-distance coverage. Installation and maintenance » 858800 has prime cabinet and secondary cabinet. When the number of GSM carriers exceeds 36, capacity can be expanded by adding the secondary cabinet, which saves the occupied area. » The cabinet is installed against the wall and cabling is im- plemented in front of the cabinet. This makes installation and maintenance very easy. » External cables are led in through the cabinet top Green design 8S8800 is environmentally friendly. The PA module uses the advanded technologies such as Doherty, DPD, Multi: Power Amplifier (MCPA) to improve the PA efficiency. 4 Confidential and Proprietary Information of TE CORPORATION TIER Services Function Chapter 1 Overview Services and Functions The following introduces the system services and functions.
