ABAs Task Force on ADR & Conflict Management in Health Care
The ABA Health Law Sections Task Force on ADR & Conflict Management in Health Care is
pleased to announce an upcoming distance learning webinar entitled Doing the Deal.
Description: Attorneys and health care entities that deal with conflict in the health care
context will benefit from this distance learning webinar, which will focus on conflict
management, dispute resolution, and avoidance skills and strategies that arise when doing
deals among hospitals and physicians. Hospital/Physician Transactions can cover a broad
spectrum, but as healthcare reform continues with new and evolving delivery models, these
transactions and their complexity will continue and increase. Challenges when pursuing the
deal involve maintaining and improving the important relationships between hospitals and
physicians, dealing with sometimes difficult personalities, and bridging the gap between the
sometimes different and inconsistent objectives of the respective parties.
The webinar will feature a distinguished panel of speakers, including Lisa Genecov and Tracey
Powell, attorneys who are both very familiar with the aforementioned transactions from
opposite points of view and who will discuss their first-hand experience in identifying
conflicts, managing expectations, and engaging in conflict management strategies (early and
often). Christi Braun will serve as moderator to the distinguished panel. The panelists will
include a discussion of their successes and failures in resolving conflicts to complete the deal.
The webinar is also co-sponsored by the Health Care Facility Operations, In-House Counsel,
Physician Issues, and Business & Transactions Interest Groups.

About the TF: The ADR & Conflict Management TF is a new resource for sharing best
practices and content expertise with Health Law Section members across its Interest Groups.
The Health Law Sections ADR & Conflict Management TF collaborates with other ABA
entities, such as the Dispute Resolution Section, on programming and other educational
initiatives to foster knowledge and skills in conflict management, conflict prevention and early
intervention strategies, collaborative problem-solving, arbitration, mediation, mediation
advocacy, and dispute system design in health care settings.
