The scientist imported the bees because he wanted to breed a new type of bees using
the African bees and ordinary European bees. He wanted to combine the strength of the
African bee with the safety of the European bee. Unfortunately, in 1957, 26 queen bees
escaped and began to breed in the jungles of Brazil. They spread very quickly and since that
time they have been moving slowly north-wards, covering 300 to 400 kilometers a year. Over
200 people have died after being stung by the killer bees, and thousands of animals have also
died. By March 1978 the killer bees had reached Venezuela and in 1980 they arrived in
Panama. If they continue to move at the same speed will reach the USA in 1988.
Today scientists from many different countries are trying to find ways of stopping the
killer bees. But if they cannot be stopped, the Americans, like the Brazilians, will have to
learn how to live with a new a very dangerous visitor.

Human are uniquely smart (8) ... all the other species in the planet. We are capable of
outstanding feats of technology and engineering. Then why are we so prone to making
mistake? And why do we tend to make the same ones time and time again? When Primate
Psychologist Laurie Santos from the Comparative Cognition Lab at Yale University posted
this question to her team, they were thinking in particular of the errors of judgement which
led to the recent collapse of the financial markets. Santos came to two possible (9) ... to this
question. Either humans have designed environments which are too complex for us to fully
understand, or we are biologically prone to making bad decisions.
In order to test this theories, the team selected a group of Brown Capuchin monkeys.
Monkeys were selected for the test because, as distant relatives of humans, they are
intelligent and have the capacity to learn. However, they are not influenced by any of the
technological or cultural environment which affect human decision-making. (10) ..., when put
into similar situations as humans, would make the same mistakes.

Have you ever had the desire to wander the world and see what was out there? While
some people prefer to stay in the comfort of their own home, others have been bitten by the
travel bug and can't wait to explore the world. Exotic places call to them. "Come visit me and
I will show you my mysteries," they say.
Every year millions of people pack their suitcases or put on backpacks and flock to
visit the seven continents of the world. They wander through the castles and museums of
Europe, and the cities and natural wonders of North and South America. Some visit the vast
exotic cultures of Asia, Africa and the Middle East. The great outback of Australia is a
wonderland for those who go there. And a few lucky people even make it to the most
mysterious continent on earthAntarctica.
Why do people want to explore the world? It gives them a better perspective about the
earth and the people living on it. It opens their minds, it gives them a feeling of
accomplishment, and it makes them feel alive. So save some money, get your passport ready,
and see the world. It will change your life forever.
