Flexible and efficient road-mobile unloaders


Cargotec's road-mobile unloaders are based on unique Siwertell screw conveyor
technology with a totally enclosed conveying line for environment-friendly and cost
efficient operation. Three different models the Siwertell 5 000 S, 10 000 S and 15 000 S
are available for handling a wide range of dry bulk materials with an unloading capacity of
up to 500 tph.

foldable structure are key elements of
Siwertell road-mobile ship unloaders.

To gain better reach into larger ships, the


unloader can be installed on a gantry. By
having an elevated position, the unloader
is closer to the jettys edge and the ship,
enhancing its ability to reach inside the
holds.

The Siwertell unloader is one of the


most environment-friendly shore based
ship unloading systems available
and can therefore be deployed in
pollution sensitive sites or those close
to populated areas. Its conveying line
is based on totally enclosed screw
conveyors configured in such a way
as to create negative pressure in the
system and avoid dust leakage at
connection and transfer points.

Mounted on a semi-trailer, all models


are fully road-mobile for transportation
between different ports and it only takes
30-45 minutes to complete the folding
and unfolding operation. Alternatively,
road-mobile unloaders can be mounted
on either a gantry or a stationary
foundation turret in port.
Stationary installations
To save space and investment costs,
the unloader can be installed on a
foundation turret. Such a configuration,
however, requires the ship to be moved
along the jetty during unloading.

If required, the gantry can be equipped


with self propelled rubber wheels or
steel wheels for installation on rails.
For direct pneumatic transport,
Cargotecs blow pump system can be
installed directly on the ship unloaders
gantry. This arrangement has a number
of advantages including the low energy
consumption of mechanical unloading
combined with the convenience of
pneumatic conveying. Also, by installing
a Siwertell system onboard, a bulk carrier
can be transformed into a self-unloading
ship.

Cargo pick-up is carried out below the


cargo surface in the ships holds. The
Siwertell unit is designed for a layerby-layer unloading method, which
considerably minimises dust creation
inside the hold from cargo avalanches.

trucks. This is facilitated by an enclosed


connection between the unloader
and the receiving truck through truck
loading bellows connected to a dust
filter. The dust filter removes dust from
the conveyed air and excess air from
the loaded truck; the air is then filtered
and dust particles are returned to the
conveying line.
Most Siwertell road-mobile ship
unloaders are self propelled by a diesel
engine. Cargotec continually upgrades
the diesel engine specification to meet
the latest regulations on exhaust and
noise emissions.
Various dry bulk commodities
Siwertell road-mobile unloaders are
suitable for handling free flowing dry
bulk cargoes such as cement, alumina,
sulphur (with a Siwertell sulphur safety
system), grain, feedstuff, biomass,
fertilisers and quick lime.
Power sources
All movements and conveyor drives are
served by hydraulic motors powered
from a central hydraulic power unit,
whose prime mover is either a diesel
engine or an electric motor.

High performance discharge system


The innovative installation of two loading
bellows allows for sequential loading of
trucks with a maintained rated unloading
capacity. When compared with using a
single loading bellows system, the
through-ship capacity is increased by
25-30 per cent. It is also possible to
connect the outlet to almost any type of
receiving land based conveying system.
During operation, the dust collector
ensures that material is transferred
under negative pressure minimising the
risk of dust emission.
Cost efficiency
Cost-efficient unloading of dry bulk
materials is ensured with the Siwertell
ship unloader. The well-proven screw
conveying system ensures continuous,
high capacity operation that increases
the through-ship capacity, cutting
unloading time and shipping costs
Energy prices continue to rise, but a
Siwertell road-mobile ship unloader
reduces them to a minimum; consuming,
for example, only 0.18 litres fuel/tonne
during a cement handling operation.

An enclosed system ensures no spillage


and therefore no costs are incurred for
loss of material or clean-up procedures
after the unloading operation is
complete. Maintenance and spare part
costs are kept to a minimum, as roadmobile unloaders largely incorporate
only standard components that are
available worldwide on a year-round
basis. Also, staffing costs are low as only
one person is required to operate the
Siwertell road-mobile unloader.
