Monroviaiberia
celebrates
its
first
EbolaValentines
Day
in 2015 as the
outbreak pushes to its oneyear mark in March of this
year. Despite many Liberians
being cognizant that the deadly
disease is still around Valentine
Day this year is definitely not
going to go by without buying
a gift for their loved ones.
Hawa Ville sells Valentines
cards and gifts but said she
plans on spending the day
quietly with her family at
home because of the Ebola
Outbreak. She said unlike the
normal Red and partying, she
is going to be home this year
and will cook her husbands
favorite Liberian dish.
I am going to spend the day
with my husband and children.
I am afraid of Ebola, this is
why I am spending it at home
with my family and we are
going to eat Torbogee.
Hawa warned Liberians who
will be spending the day on
beaches and in clubs, to be
cognizant that Ebola is still in
Liberia.
They should be careful with
themselves. And observe the
Ebola rules and wash their
hands before entering any club
or crowded places, she said.
If its left with me, I would
say nobody should go on
beaches and clubs because of
this Ebola. But the people have
their own lives and they have
the right to satisfy themselves
the way they please.
She said new Ebola cases are
popping up because people
are becoming complacent and
do not want to take the Ebola
prevention measures.
They are not washing hands
and wearing long sleeves shirt
or blouses, but many of the
young people are in underwear
and passing around, she said.
I want to tell Liberians who
will be celebrating Valentine
Day this Saturday, we should
be very careful, because Ebola
is real, so let us go by the
rules.
Larry E. Saye hugs his fianc
as they shop together for
Valentines gift. He refers to
her as his Val a nickname for
the special someone who one
celebrates with in Liberia on
February 14 every year.
The couple shop on Broad
Street and he picked up a card
and rose for her and said he is
going to spend the day with
her.
My baby and I are going to
celebrate the day right here in
Monrovia. She is my friend
and also my Val, but she is just
shy to say it, he said.
Saye said though many
Liberians have lost loved ones
to Ebola; this day should be a
period to mourn and no need
for an elaborate celebration. He
said safety of the living must be
a priority and those celebrating
should do so with care.
I want the government to
come down strong on the
citizens and ban people from
going to crowded places, he

Mae Azango mae.azango@frontpageafricaonline.com

said.
They should have restriction to entertainment centers
before people start vomiting from hang over.
Boimah Swary a resident of Monrovia was seen
buying valentine gift for his wife, and said he intends
spending the day with his family because of Ebola.
If I have my own power, I would stop people from
going to clubs and beaches but we hope the government
will take the necessary measures to stop people from
going to these places because Liberia is not yet Ebola
free, he said.
The only way we can help ourselves, is to remain in
our various homes on this Valentines Day because
one way or another, people have to ride vehicles and

we do not know who is carrying the virus.

Boimah said from the onset of the Ebola outbreak in
Liberia, there was huge denial among many Liberians
and to this date people are still living in that state of
mind.
People are still living in denial, so this is why the
virus is still here because people still believe that
Ebola is not here, he said.
For Betty Kayimie a trader who sells valentine gifts
just for the season at the corner of Randell Street, in
Monrovia the business is slow and many people are
not buying cards like before.
We that selling the valentine gifts, are not making
money like the way we used to make money because

of Ebola, he said.
We understand that Ebola is in town, so my advice to
people who purchase these gifts from us, is for them
to pray before going out, because God is the key to
everything.
She appealed to the government to restrict the
population in a good way, to help prevent the spread
of Ebola.
Saint Valentine's Day, also known as Valentine's Day
or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is a holiday observed
on February 14 each year. It is celebrated in many
countries around the world, although it is not a holiday
in most of them. In Liberia people share flowers, cards
and the Color Red is worn on the day to signify love.

NO TIME FOR
INACTION
Liberia Must Move to
Recover Exported Millions

A WEEK AGO, a leaked report compiled by the International

Consortium of Investigative Journalists outlined how millions
of dollars from several African countries have landed in Swiss
banks where they have been kept for years.
LIBERIA, A COUNTRY with low budget, poor infrastructure
and service delivery was astonishingly ranked 57 out of 203
countries affected by the transfer of huge sums of money in
Swiss banks.
THE LEAKED REPORT stated that the maximum amount
of money associated with a client connected to Liberia was
$59.5 million, a figure that could be even much higher based
on the number of activities that took place in Liberia during
the course of the civil wars involving foreign individuals who
operated as foreign investors transacting deals with rebel
leaders and warlords.
IT IS NO DOUBT that millions of dollars from illegal trade in
Liberia during the war years could end up in foreign banks since
the country became a transit point for smuggling of natural
resources including diamond and arms trade to facilitate the
rebels and the activities of the marauding militias.
THE NUMBER OF LIBERIANS who became rich overnight
as a consequence of their involvement in business deals during
the war era also points to the level of illegal money that
circulated in the country during the turmoil period.
SEVERAL LOGGING and mining companies flocked on the
shores of Liberia during the crisis period, moving around as
investors but soon vanished following the end of the war and
are no longer known to be in business, all indicating that some
of these businesses and individuals were established to use the
crisis in siphoning millions of dollars from the country under
dubious circumstances.
THESE FUNDS GARNERED from the country through the
exploitation of natural resources, might certainly be deposited
in foreign banks ideally Swiss banks as contained in the report.
SINCE THE RELEASE of the leaked report, the entire Liberia
has been very mute with no comment from the government,
civil society or anybody, whatsoever.
A SENIOR MEMBER of the Ghanaian Parliaments finance
committee, Dr. Mark Assibey-Yeboah hit the nail on the coffin
when he challenged the Attorney general of that country to
take the lead and go after Ghanaians indicted in the global
leaked report for illegally stashing millions of taxable money
in Swiss banks.
DR. YEBOAH CHALLENGED Ghana Attorney General,
Marietta Brew Appiah-Oppong, to go after the wealthy
Ghanaians who are said to have stashed $89 million in
several HSBC private bank accounts in Switzerland. "First
and foremost we have to establish that these institutions or
individuals have evaded taxes. And the AG Department and
the Ghana Revenue Authority would have to take steps to
retrieve these [monies]", the Ghanaian parliamentarian said.
THIS IS A GOOD public pronouncement by a lawmaker and
we challenged Liberia to also take the lead in ensuring that
millions exported from this poor country are brought back
through the use of all legal means with the Swiss government
and other international partners.
THE LEAKED SWISS files, ranks Ghana 106 among 203
countries with the largest dollar amounts in Swiss banks.
Liberia is highly rank at 57.
IF GHANA WHICH WAS only ranked 106 among 203
countries is trying to take the lead what more about Liberia
which is raked so highly.

SIRLEAF IS DELIBERATE

Martin K. N. Kollie, martinkerkula1989@yahoo.com, Contributing Writer

he Executive Mansion is the official home of the

Liberian Presidency. It was built in 1964 under the
administration of President William Vacanarat Shadrach
Tubman by 2,000 workers and 150 foreign technicians.
The eight-storey Executive Mansion building, which costs US$20
million, has an atomic-bomb shelter, an underground swimming
pool, a private chapel, a trophy room, a cinema, an emergency
power plant, water supply and sewage system, among others.
This constitutional palace of the Liberian presidency went into
flames on July 26, 2006 while four West African leaders were
guests of President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf during Liberias 159th
Independence Day celebration. It was exactly seven months ten
days following her inauguration on January 16, 2006 when this
unfortunate fire invasion took place.
According to South African Forensic Scientists, the fire eruption
at the Executive Mansion was caused as a result of electrical fault.
Due to this incident, President Sirleaf has been unable to perform
State functions at her official office for almost 9 years now. Is this
not a blatant violation of our law especially when resources have
been made available since 2008 to refurbish this same Mansion?
Interestingly, our President feels very complacent about
administering State functions at an unofficial location. The
Foreign Ministry is not meant to discharge Presidential duties.
Barrack Obama cannot perform his statutory mandate as President
of America out of the White House for more than 9 years. Even
though, we claim to model our system of governance after
America, but most often we exhibit undemocratic actions that do
not even conform to existing realities.
What does it take to renovate our Executive Mansion? This
government made a public announcement on August 4, 2008 to
begin renovation under the supervision of a local construction
group, Milton and Richards Architecture Film, which in turn
sub-leased certain aspects of the renovation work to other local
construction companies including the Liberian-owned W. R.
Maintenance & Janitorial Services located in Sinkor.
The estimated cost to renovate the Executive Mansion in 2008
was USD$7 million. The total amount of USD$3 million was
allocated in the 2008-2009 national budget to fund phase one of
this project. I am very concern about the safety and security of
our President, but again she cannot continue to overtly contravene
statutory guidelines which are in compliance with democratic due
diligence.
Furthermore, it is the right of our people to know some basic facts
surrounding appropriations made to revamp our Executive since
it was gutted by fire in 2006. Under the Public Sector Investment
Plan and Technical Services budget of the Ministry of State for
President Affairs, the total of US$14,933,334 has been allocated
for the renovation of the Executive Mansion. This is a succinct
fiscal breakdown per annum:
2010/2011 US$973,496
2011/2012 US$1,230,078
2012/2013 US$2,000,000
2013/2014 US$6,466,667
2014/2015 US$6,466,667

Even though, these huge amounts have been disbursed to revamp

the official home of President Sirleaf, but the Mansion is a
palace of ghosts up-to-date. This means someone must account
for these public resources? In 2008, the cost of renovating the
Mansion was US$7 million. Today, there are huge public concerns
about the completion of this Mansion even though more than
US$14,933,334 has been spent.
Is this not corruption? How does this regime intend to end
corruption? Is this not public dishonesty and mistrust of
authority? How will corruption not be a vampire? We demand an
immediate investigate into this matter. State actors must exercise
transparency and accountability at all times. The Ministry of State
for President Affairs must give a comprehensive account of this
US$14,933,334.
For too long we have sat and witnessed the unbending refusal of
this Chief Executive to relocate from an unauthorized residence
to her legitimate habitat. This inconsistent and unjustifiable
display by Madam Sirleaf is offensive to good governance and
international best practices. The President must put an end to this
unorthodox occurrence now, before it hunts her legacy further.
The Executive Mansion can never become a safe environment
until this government makes it what it ought to be. If this regime
was serious about ensuring President Sirleaf relocates to her
legitimate duty-station, our Executive Mansion would have been
fully renovated by now. Unfortunately, it is not a priority to some
unpatriotic public servants who are in control of State resources.
Nine (9) years is too sufficient to give our Executive Mansion a
conclusive face-lift. There should be no ground for unnecessary
excuse(s) especially when adequate funds were made available to
complete this national project.
Any Leader who leads by example will always receive standing
ovations from his/her people. In accordance with Article one of
the 1986 Constitution, the good people of Liberia are mandating
Madam President to return to her official home from now
to the end of this year. If our President abides by this popular
mandate, it would contribute to restoring democratic sanctity
to the Presidency. We cannot live in a country with a homeless
President. The recurrent denial of our President to occupy her real
domicile is alarming and this issue must provoke public interest.
We will not accept any further dislodgment of President Sirleaf
after January 01, 2016. This is an ultimatum that must seek the
immediate attention of our President. If Madam Sirleaf fails to
abide by our directive, we shall utilize all legal means to ensure
she returns to the Executive Mansion.

IT IS TIME FOR THE GOVERNMENT of Liberia to take

the lead in making a formal request to the Swiss government
for further investigation into the actual owners of these bank
accounts and working out modalities for immediate transfer of
the funds to Liberia to help in the reconstruction drive of the
country.
THE REPORT ALREADY mentioned that the United Kingdom
and Indian governments are already going after the accused
individuals which, makes it easier for countries affected
including Liberia to cease the opportunity in ensuring that they
get these funding returned to their respective countries.
THESE MILLIONS ARE MONEY accrued illegally through
the use of the natural resources of Liberia and they must be
used for the people instead of being kept in European and other
foreign banks, benefiting the people of those countries.

WITH CASH KEPT AT THESE banks, loans are easily

accessible to the people of those countries while Liberians pay
11 to 13 percent to get loans and keep the wheels of the country
running.
THE NATIONAL LEGISLATURE and other stakeholders
must take the lead in pressuring the government act swiftly in
requesting the return of these funds to the country-it is no time
to sit and watch as millions exported from Liberia continue to
be in foreign banks.
WE CHALLENGED THE government to even go further in
conducting its own investigation of the past business deals of
individuals and companies, tracing their origins and possibly
where these monies landed.

Above all interests, Liberia is Supreme.

These stories are not about women raping people, it is about men. What
does a Female president have to do with anything? You think if these men
respected women they would be raping them? There is no president or

The victims of rape need counseling. I think the government should
put some money towards support groups that will help these women
and girls cope with what has happened to them. The physical trauma of
rape is fairly short lived, but the emotional toll can last a lifetime. Also,
Liberians need to do what they can individually to change the culture of
rape and misogyny that is prevalent all over the country. Educate your
sons, friends, cousins, uncles, any man that is in your life that they are not
entitled to the bodies of a woman. Have open communication with your
daughters so that they feel comfortable coming to you and telling you that
they have been raped. DO NOT BLAME THE VICTIM... ever. Report

My Liberian people, please read with comprehension and understanding.
The above article is to my knowledge not about rape. The girl was kept in
a video club by the predator Morris and later taking away after the little
girl herself refused to follow the first two individuals Morris had sent to
come with this girl to him. Now, the girl body had been found with private
parts, fingers cut. They cut off everything This is in my understanding
more than rape that many of you are highlighting and pointing fingers to
woman President. This is what we call "Ritualistic Killings". Ritualistic
killing is more painful than rape in my understanding. imagine somebody
is cuting your finger and penis while you stay breathing until you die
instantly, put this into your own flesh. How can you treate a fellow human
being like this? Liberia is gradually becoming hell where the angels of
lucifer or the devil is now taking over. There is no time to be waste in

that something serious is wrong with Ellen's psychic, This is a very old
delusional lady who requires psychological evaluation. Listen to her
speeches you will note she repeats her self over and over because she is
mentally challenge and confused. A leader most especially a woman who
fails to recognize the magnitude of a child being rape and the domestic
violence women encounter daily in Liberia is simply sick in the mind.
Liberians in general are also duly responsible for their problems. It is
very important to evaluate candidates whom you elect meaning your
vote determines the future of your children and Liberia. Stop electing
gangsters who are greedy, selfish and encourages abuse of human rights.
In all three branches of this administration/government what you have

the desperation of a lame-duck president who wasted nine years of

the Liberian people's time and thinks she will accomplish in three
years what she could not in nine years. But this has also been the
case with tyrants, dictators and pseudo-reformers to use the press as
a scapegoat. All past Liberian regimes are notorious for going after
outspoken media personalities from Tubman, Tolbert, Doe, Taylor
and now Nobel Peace Prize winner president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.
The case of FPA's Rodney Sieh versus Chris Toe, the kangaroo
trail, the unlawful closure of his news business and his subsequent
imprisonment, all sanctioned by the corrupt Supreme Court are clear
reminders that Costa was their next target.
So Ellen can fool herself and her blind followers, the Ellenites
and Ellenazis, that history has a way of repeating itself for those
repressive leaders who live in self-denial that the ugly downfall of
their predecessors "can never happen to me" until it is too late. But
time will tell for those who refuse to learn from the past are bound to
encounter the fate that often greets stubborn tyrants, and it knows no
gender.
Does going after voices of dissent translate into the promise of
prosecuting corrupt individuals as stated by Ellen in her Annual
Message to the Legislature/nation less than a month ago? Is this the
legacy Ellen wants to leave behind when and if she leaves office,
peacefully?
Unless Ellen wants to play another "Tubmanism" on the Liberian
people, it is difficult to judge why she refuses to be called a lameduck
president. A lameduck is a lameduck is a lameduck, unless.... But
we are watching to see how this marriage ends between her and the
Liberian people. It has not been a good marriage and we are seeking a
divorce perhaps even before 2017.
That takes me back to her notorious son, Fombah Sirleaf who heads
the dreaded NSA, a torture gulag for mom's perceived "enemies."
But this is the same Fombah who staged a Texas style movie armed
robbery last July that netted him and his gang $250,000.00 bounty.
And another irony of Ellen's promised corruption fight is to let
Fombah walk away with his loot that the taxpayers must not repay to
the South Korean businessmen as determined by Ellen's handpicked
crony "independent investigator." So much so for not going to be a
lameduck president and the promise to fight corruption. But we are
taking note.
Hence, Liberians, do we expect the 2017 presidential elections to be
free, fair and transparent? Just like in 2005 and 2011, Ellen will make
sure her chosen successor "wins" overwhelmingly who would dare
not go after her to account for her failed leadership and the corruption
syndicate she supervises. The National Election Commission and
the Supreme Court are staffed with Ellen loyalists. Just look at the
just concluded or to be concluded by the Supreme Court senatorial
elections that is trying to purge Ellen's enemies from being seated
(Varney Sherman and Bohfal Chambers.)
On legacy again: why would Ellen abandon her ruling Unity Party
candidates and elected officials to campaign for those from opposition
parties as we saw in the senatorial elections and now in the Senate
Pro-Temp leadership? The Unity Party is slowly dying and funeral/
burial is 2017. Beware Senators who are being cajoled by Ellen to
vote for her choice. Vote your conscience. Remember, Ellen leaves
office in three years; she is old and you have long life ahead of you.
Think of your TOMORROW and not Ellen's NOW.
I hope it won't come to where I said "I told you so and you should have
known. Where is Ellen now?" The choice is yours to make. Liberia is
bigger than any one individual or a group of crooked individuals, and
no one single Liberian is MORE Liberian than any other Liberian.

been left to scream and suffer in a strange land for nearly three years.
The decision by the Inter-ministerial Scholarships Committee to
clutch students' allowances for such period continues to cause serious
damage to these students' academic sojourns leading to a gloomy
and shadowy future of the Liberia human capacity building strategy,
which serves as nucleus of the UP-led government development plan
since its inception to power.
We are suffering; we need our allowances.
Moreover, 2010 witnessed the institution of the Inter-ministerial
Scholarships Committee with the aims to ensure that scholarships
are merit-based, mainstreamed, and gender-balanced. Contrary
to this, the committee has finally termed to be biased and unfair in
implementing goals of the very purpose that brought it to existence.
How could the committee woefully resort to letting students undergo
such treatment? What are the expectances we anticipate when the
committee continues to force students to unwanted acts? Is it via this
trek we wish to robustly reform the education sector that was braindrained during the fourteen years unexplained experience?
It is now three years we have gone without our due allowances!!!!!
Unfortunately, while Ebola is consuming meaningful lives in Liberia,
students in Egypt on the other hand have been left to sleep in the streets
in Egypt, turn to mendicants, street hustlers, expose to insecurity,
driving them to absolute doom all because they were flown to Egypt
by their government. Where are the voices for the voiceless? Where
are the human right activists? Where are the advocates?Where is the
President, Her Excellency, Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf? Where are
the lawmakers? This unbearable act must come to a halt; so we firmly
stand to seek these legitimate entitlements and vibrantly declare our
vigilant preparedness to combat the continuous sufferings of students
in Egypt.
We are entitled to these entitlements.. UNPAID ALLOWANCES!!!!
Lastly, we therefore call on the immediate intervention of the
President, Her Excellency, Madam Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, and shrewd
Liberians to help bring this appalling and cynical act to an end.

A TRAVESTY OF JUSTICE?
F

Monroviaollowing an overturning
of a US$25,000 bail by
the Supreme Court of
Liberia granted by the
Criminal Court E judge Cianeh
Clinton-Johnson, the court is
slated to hand down its opinion
on the matter Today (Friday).
Judge Johnson granted bail to
Jafaar Bashir an alleged rapist
based on what she called several
legal citations as provided under
the law.
Bashir a 44 year-old the
Lebanese national was charged
for his alleged involvement in
the raping of young Liberian
children within the age range of
7, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 15.
He came close to walking out
of the Monrovia Central Prison
in November last year after
Criminal Court 'E' Judge Johnson
granted him a US$25K bail.
Bashir a resident of the
Gardnersville
Community,
Bashir face multiple charges
by the Liberia National Police
including rape, porn filming of
underage girls.
The accused was forwarded to the
Temple of Justice in Monrovia
for court trial. The police alleged
that Bashir allegedly raped
the victims, who are minors,
and the incident occurred at a
Lebanese-run garage opposite
the Shoes Factory Community
in Gardnersville.
Some eyewitnesses said the
accused has also been involved
in pornography videotaping
of several of his victims and
screening those videos to
his colleagues and the police
investigation retrieved several
of those videos from the accused
residence.

Criminal Court E was established
when Liberias first woman
President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf
ascended to power in 2006.
Not many high-profiled alleged
rapist have been convicted and
sent to prison by this court,
based on constant granting of
US$25,000 bail bond.

Supreme Court to rule in Lebanese Rapist Case

Dr. Mansour who claimed that

he (Bashir) was insane.
The state reportedly argued that
Bashir had been sound because
he operated a successful business
in Liberia prior to the charges
against him.
It was only after his indictment
that he claimed to be crazy, said
a source familiar with the case.
Bashir, according to sources
had sought to use the ongoing
Ebola epidemic to evade justice.
Like the other three cases, many
legal observers are baffled over
how Judge Johnson reached her
decision Tuesday.
In her ruling, Judge Johnson
argued that considering that the
defendant is accused of raping
scores of children, the court
must ensure that the defendant
does not pose any flight risks or
danger to the community as well
as to any other children.
This court must ensure that

it protects the public against

any further criminal act of
the defendant and have the
assurance from the defendant
that the judicial process will be
respected."
Nevertheless, she was on the
verge of allowing Bashir to
walk. The judges decision
draws contrast to AFELLs fears
when the law was first drafted.
For example, the old rape law
allowed suspects to be out of jail
and back on the streets and in a
position to intimidate anyone
who might give evidence against
him.

The ruling of the high court

followed a writ of prohibition
issued on a US $25.000 bail
granted by the judge to release
the defendant on the money paid.
The justice in Chambers Cllr.

Philip Banks will hand down the

opinion Friday at the Supreme
Court.
It can be recalled the high court
give a life sentence against a man
aged 48 for raping a 12 year-old
girl in the chicken Soup Factory.
The sentence by the court
followed an appeal from the
defense lawyers after jurors
and the lower court found the
defendant guilty. Defendant
Joseph Gardea was indicted in
2009 for sexually abusing his
stepdaughter in their home.
Handing down the final verdict
the high court in its opinion said
during the trial in the lower court,
the prosecution team produced
eight witnesses while the defense
produced five.
Associate Justice Kabineh Ja'neh
who read the courts opinion,
stated that one of the prosecution
witnesses Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah,
told the court that the deceased
was sexually tampered with,
something that enlarged her
stomach.
She said the victims private part
had bruises and was severely
injured a situation that made
the deceased to always scream
during health checkups.
Justice J'aneh also revealed that
the deceased told the mother
about the constant assault by her
stepfather but her mother told her
not to inform anyone on ground
that he was the sole provider of
the family.
But Justice Janeh narrated that
a sister of the deceased Sarah
Gardea told the court that on
three occasions she saw the
defendant Joseph lying over the
deceased.
Liberia Associate Justice added
that the lower court and jurors
were not in error to give a life
sentence to the defendant and
the high Court is in conformity
and affirmed the lower courts
judgment.
But with the stay order on the
movement of Bashir from the
Central prison by the court, it is
not known if the judge will give
him a life sentence like Gardea,
or a sentence for a statutory
period either to serve his jail
sentence in Liberia or Lebanon.

The crime Rape is a non-bailable
offence under the new rape law.
But an investigation done by
FrontPageAfrica has revealed
that in the past months, a number
of high-profiled rape cases
involving foreign nationals have
slipped from the radar, ironically,
under the watch of a female
judge at the Criminal Court E,
Judge Clinton-Johnson.
Some of the list include Bashir,
Ali Saksouk, 21, another
Lebanese national who was also
accused of rape, but was granted
his freedom by the controversial
judge. Saksouk was accused of
raping a 13-year-old girl after
her father filed a complaint that
he found Saksouk and the girl
in a 4-Runner Jeep, according to
Police charge sheet.

A source familiar with the

case told FrontPageAfrica that
Bashirs lawyers put forward
an insanity defense, which the
judge favored.
Dr. Benjamin Harris who
examined the defendant had
previously determined that there
was nothing wrong with Bashir
and found him fit to stand trial.
However, Bashirs lawyers
reportedly objected claiming that
the report was bias because the
government paid for the report.
Judge Johnson sided with the
defense, even though the state is
required to provide and pay for
medical treatment for inmates
under the states supervision.
Judge Johnson reportedly put Dr.
Haris report aside and ruled that
the defendant brings in his own
psychiatrist. Bashir, according
to court records provided a

embarked on a
journey from the
United States aboard a Delta
Airline fight to Liberia, he
planned to stay at least fifty days
in West Africa, hoping to conduct
ministry and business studies
in Liberia, Ghana, Nigeria and
Sierra Leone.
But that plan did not materialize
as the 55-year old two suitcases
containing all his marketing
materials and medications for
high sugar and blood pressure
could not be found on his flight
when he landed on April 15,
2014 at the Roberts International
Airport in Margibi County.
Nearly a month later, Delta
Airlines retrieve Johnsons
suitcases and returned it to

him. Unfortunately, all his

appointments in Liberia, Sierra
Leone, Ghana and Nigeria were
canceled because he could not
present the necessary materials
to his clients.
In an exclusive interview with
Mr. Johnson Tuesday, when
he walked into the offices of
FrontPage Africa to explain his
ordeal, the missionary said he
was expected to leave Liberia
June 13, 2014 but that did
not work out due to the ebola
outbreak when several flights
were canceled to Liberia.
Johnson bought a Delta Airline
ticket for US$ 1,500.00 and the
ticket remains valid up till Feb
20, 2015 which can allow him
to return to the United States
but he says all efforts applied to
reach the management of Delta

to arrange his return flight has

been futile.
According to him, in September
2014, he went at the Delta Airline
office in Monrovia and met with
a man only identified as Kamara
in order to explain his wiliness to
return back to the USA since his
missionary plans were already
unsuccessful. By then, he says,
Kamara informed him that Kenya
Airways was the only flight that
could connect him to Delta but
Kenya Airways was not coming
anymore to Liberia but could
come in December, 20124 and
that they both exchange contacts
and promised to remain in touch.
Said Mr. Johnson: He took
down my number and promised
to call me but they never call me.
Each time I call their numbers
were off. I went to the office

and the office is close there is no

notice.
Mr. Johnson told FrontPage
Africa that he returned to Delta
Airlines office on January 26,
2015 to follow up about his flight
and met with a representative
of the airline called Stephanie
Efouba.
Continued Johnson: She located
my ticket and printed it. She said
she was going to get in touch
with Delta in Accra and that she
will get back to me. She never
called me. When I show up, she
said it will cost me one thousand,
nine hundred fifty dollars, and
seventy-cents for my return
ticket back to the United States.
I said to her my ticket is still
valid and am not staying here on
my own accord. It is Delta that
abandoned me in Liberia during
the Ebola crisis.
Johnson said Madam Efouba
promised to get back to her after
some consultations with the
relevant authorities but he has
not received any communication
from Delta Airline.
He says his stay in Liberia is a
major threat to his health as he
has no money to seek medical
attention in Liberia.
Am not here because I want
to stay here. Its Delta that
abandoned me here. Since April,
I have been here for ten months
When I went to her [Stephanie]
she said she cannot guarantee
anything until she hears from
Delta, he narrated.
According to the 55 year-old
man, hes currently staying with
his cousin in Monrovia who

takes care of his feeding and

housing but is worried that his
health is in danger since he has
not been for medical checkups
for several months now.

these times I have not taken my
medicines, what has happened
to me health wise I dont know.
At that same time when am
living in Liberia and get malaria

symptoms I live in constant

President Obama on the Next Phase in Our Fight Against Ebola

MONROVIA nited States President

Barack
Obama
announced
the
beginning of a new
phase in the fight against Ebola.
In remarks given at the White
House, he said the progress we
have made against the outbreak
in West Africa will allow the
2,800 American military troops
sent to Liberia to return home by
April 30, 2015. This will leave
a force of 100 troops behind to
work with Liberia's military,
regional partners and U.S.

civilians. However, he cautioned

the mission was not over.
"We have risen to the challenge,"
President Obama stated in his
remarks in Washington, DC.
"Our focus now is getting to
zero."
Since the onset of the epidemic in
2014, the United States has led an
international response involving
thousands of personnel, U.S.
and international, civilian and
military to fight the disease
at its source. In Liberia, U.S.
personnel, both civilian and
military, trained more than 1,500

healthcare workers; facilitated

the construction of 15 Ebola
Treatment
Units
(ETUs);
supported the establishment of
core public health management
and rapid response capabilities;
and galvanized a robust
international response comprised
of over 62 countries contributing
more than $2 billion as well
as thousands of personnel and
wide-ranging resources. Now,
approximately 10 months since
the first additional U.S. personnel
deployed to West Africa, cases
are down 80 percent from peak

levels.
"Every case is an ember that, if
not contained, can light a new
fire," the president cautioned.
"So we're shifting our focus from
fighting the epidemic to now
extinguishing it."
The military mission was only
part of the U.S. response, the
President noted. He stressed
the commitment of the United
States to continue to work
in coordination with the
Government of Liberia to ramp
up the civilian response beyond
the 10,000 workers who are

already involved in the fight

against Ebola.
"As we transition into a new
phase in this fight, make
no mistake -- America is as
committed as ever, I am as
committed as ever to getting to
zero," the President said. "And I
know we can."
The next phase of our response,
he explained, turns the focus
towards
consolidating
the
substantial progress we have
made in the fight against Ebola
to a civilian led effort utilizing
expertise from the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention,
the U.S. Public Health Service
and the U.S. Agency for
International Development
Civilian health care workers will
ramp up aggressive case-finding
and contact-tracing efforts to

hunt down remaining cases. We

will continue public awareness
campaigns and outreach so that
communities remain vigilant and
prepared to identify and care for
new patients.
In thanking these military and
civilian humanitarians for their
service, the President said:
Thanks to their commitment
and to American leadership
in this fight, we have made
enormous progress in the last
few months and have turned the
tide of this epidemic. Thanks to
these efforts, the number of new
cases is on the decline. Thanks
to the foundation our military,
civilian workers and countless
others around the world have
laid, we now can focus on a new
goal: Getting to zero -- zero new
cases of Ebola.

Monroviahe Ministry of Education has somersaulted

from its March 2, school reopening date
announced just two days ago. This is the
fourth time the ministry is revising the
schedule for the opening of schools in 2015, setting
the latest date at February 16.
The ministry had announced that schools would
opened on February 2, but later changed it to
February 16, then to March 2 early on Tuesday.
Speaking at the Ministry of Information regular press
briefing Thursday, Deputy Education Minister for
Administration Ramses Kumbuyah said the ministry
has determined February 16 as the final date for the
opening of schools.
However, we acknowledge the fact that the country
is confused about the dates, but we wish to apologize
for the changing of the date, he added.
Kumbuyah said Montserrado County and other urban
centers are fully ready for the opening of schools,
adding that they will not waste time to open schools
because of those that are unprepared.
He indicated that a group called the School Safety
Committee has been organized to help monitor
students activities on campuses.
The deputy minister has, stated that it is mandatory
that every parent, guardian and school administrator
adhere to the school safety protocols by washing
their hands and taking their temperature before
entering any campus.
Many parents and guardians have criticized the

Monrovia-

government terming the ministry of education as

being unprepared to reopen school and not properly
planning for education.
How will they say February 16, then come and say
March 2 and back to the 16th. I wonder if these people
are taking the Liberian people for a joke, said Massa
Johnson a mother who lives in the Brewerville area.
Many of them have their children in schools in
America and Ghana, how will they not be playing
fun out of us. We look like fun box to them? We
look like fun box to this government? We want our
children to go to school, thats all we want.

No Graduation Before WAEC Exams Results

Meanwhile the ministry has said that there would be
no graduation exercises for grade 12 students prior to
the release of the West African Examinations Council
(WAEC) results
Deputy Education Minister for Instruction, Hawah

to ensure that students graduating from high school
pass the WAEC exams before getting clearance to
graduate.
Madam Goll-Kotchi said the government is working
with WAEC to facilitate the speedy processing of the
exams results before graduation.
She said no school should collect WAEC fees from
any parent or guardian during registration except in
May or June, which is the final month for payment
of those fees.

Senator Jallah won the election

The total membership of

COURT RELEASES HENRY COSTA

Wherefore in view of the foregoing, it is the ruling of this court that the petitioners petition for Habeas Corpus is and the same is hereby
granted. The petitioner is hereby ordered released from further custody with immediate effect and it is so order. Peter Gbeneweleh

Monroviahe presiding judge of

Criminal Court C has
ordered the release of
talk show host Henry
Costa from further detention.
The order of the Judge Peter
Gbeneweleh
followed
an
argument Tuesday of this week,
when lawyers of radio talk show
host Cllr.
Tiawon Gongloe
said their client was denied his
Miranda rights and was forced to
make statements to the LNP.
Costa was harassed coerced
by the Liberia National Police
which is a complete violation of
human rights and the Liberian
constitution, Cllr. Gongloe told
the court.
He continued: Costa found
himself in the cell our client
was arrested and was never
informed of his Miranda rights
or informing him while he was
arrested.
Also arguing, Atty. Arthur
Johnson said the LNP breached
the 48 hours that is provided by
law and their client was illegally
arrested and was not told on
nature of the arrest.
He added: the Government
must be fined for providing
inconsistent arguments and
information before the Court.
In counter argument Cllr.Daku
Mulbah said the petition filed is

prematurely done and the court

should dismiss the petitioners
petition.
The petitioners early this
morning (Monday) at 8:30 am
prematurely, hurriedly, filed a
writ of habeas corpus which they
are aware that the laws provide
for 48hrs for investigation. Cllr.
Mulbah said.
The state legal counsel stated:
All persons who are arrested on
account of the commission of a
crime is subject to investigation
which the petitioners dont
want to happen, the Liberian
constitution ordered the LNP
to investigate criminals and

offenders and charge them

where culpable, the state have
not violated the rights as he was
invited to further an ongoing
investigation.
The presiding judge later turned
Costa over to the custody of the
courts sheriff Roland Nyankoon
where his legal counsels signed
for him.
In his ruling, Thursday, judge
Gbeneweleh said there were
two salient issues for the
determination of the Habeas
corpus which include: Whether
or not the petitioner was charged
and presented to court within
48 hours, as provided by the

1986 constitution and whether

or not the petition of habeas
corpus should be granted and
circumstances.
Said Judge Gbeneweleh: State
lawyers in count 2 of their
returns argued that the petitioner
was arrested on February 7, 2015
by the Liberia National Police
for matter relative to the public
pronouncements on the radio
talk show host concerning the
deportation of one Sam Fawaz
to Lebanon, but not predicated
upon his violation of curfew
laws, and they said that they
invited Costa but he refused and
failed and neglected to honor the
LNP invitation.
He continued: The fact is not
denied by the Government
that the petitioner (Costa) was
arrested along with 34 Liberians
in the same faithful morning of
February 7, 2015 for curfew
violation. It is also not denied
by the respondents that the other
34 were released and only the
petitioner (Costa) remained in
the custody of the LNP.
Judge Gbeneweleh stated that the
arrest of Costa and other follows
a violation of the curfew imposed
by the Liberian government due
to the outbreak of Ebola. This
court notes that curfew violation
is not a crime but an infraction
which is punishable by a fine of

US $25.00, the petitioner should

have been released just like
the other 34 since all of them
were outdoor during the curfew
hours and were arrested by LNP
officers, he said.
In his ruling, the judge said
the next issue is the invitation
allegedly extended to the
petitioner by the LNP to provide
some explanations relative to
the deportation of Fawaz, which
he (Costa) failed to honor the
invitation extended him.
The return of the Government
lawyer is devoid of any
documentary
evidence
to
substantiate their allegation that
the LNP invited Costa, a copy of
the said invitation should have
been attached to their returns.
He continued: This court is in
disagreement with the argument
of the state that the petitioner
placed himself in hiding, it is
unthinkable and inconceivable
that the petition placed himself
in hiding where he was in the
street upon his arrest by the LNP,
hence, the police should have
arrested, charged and sent him to
court as the law provides.
Judge Gbeneweleh said the State
did not charge the petitioner
neither sent him to court adding
that an appropriate writ should
have been issued end exhibited
before the court to substantiate

political institution.
NPP officials criticized Senator
Taylors decision to support
Jallah against the partys
candidate. Senator Howard
Taylor along with seven other
senators were Friday named on
the campaign team of Senator
Nagbe. The Secretary of the
Senate, Nanborlor Singhbe,
immediately swore in Jallah.
Meanwhile, Vandalark Patrick a
young Liberian political pundit
has criticized the Supreme
Court of Liberia for allowing
the Senate Pro-Temp elections to
proceed.
The Campaigners for Change
is totally frustrated and dejected
because of the gross violation of
our constitution, he said in an
interview with FrontPageAfrica
as he responded to the vote.
Article 47 of our constitution
states that the Senate shall elect
once every six years a Senate
Pro-Temp. And for the Senate
to have gone ahead and have an
election for the unexpired Tenure
of the Senate Pro-temp grossly
violates the constitution. What is
more frustrating is that to prevent
a petition to the Supreme Court.
Cllr. Phillip A. Z. Banks the
Justice in Chambers to decide
not to act on our petition clearly
signifies that the only alternative
to seek redress in this country is
to go to the bushes or to carry out
street protest or to engage in acts
of violence.

the conclusion of the police

investigation as stated by State
lawyers, that the petitioner was
to be charged and sent to court
before the petition was filed with
the court.
The powerful writ of habeas
corpus in our jurisdiction
guarantees the protection of
human rights of an accused
as in the instant case and this
court is under legal obligation
to grant the relief sought in this
proceeding.
Wherefore in view of the
foregoing, it is the ruling of this
court that the petitioners petition
for Habeas Corpus is and the
same is hereby granted. The
petitioner is hereby released from
further custody with immediate
effect and it is so order, stated
the Judge.
Speaking to reporters after the
ruling, PUL President Abdullai
Kamara condemned the wrongful
arrest and long detention of the
radio talk show host Costa.
It is wrong and government
should not continue it, we
consider the arrest and detention
of Costa as harassment, he said.
He applauded the ruling of
the judge and it should serve
as a caution to the Liberian
government in arresting people
and journalists in the country.
Kamara continued: We will
meet the government and
tell them not to continue the
premature arrest of journalist,
and the society needs to accept
that journalists are doing the job
and should not be harassed.
He also called on journalists in
the country to stand in solidarity
of free of expression so as to
enhance the work of the press.

General Qassem Suleimani, the

the powerful Quds Force, has
become the public face of Iran's
support for the Iraqi and Syrian
governments against jihadists.
He has frequently been pictured
on social media in Iraq with progovernment forces, including
Kurdish fighters and Shiite militia
units in battle areas.
"Considering the heavy defeats
suffered by Daesh and other
terrorist groups in Iraq and Syria,
we are certain these groups are
nearing the end of their lives,"
Suleimani was quoted as saying
by the semi-official Fars news
agency, using an Arabic acronym

The
Democratic

convention will be held the week
of July 25, 2016. The two other
finalists were Brooklyn, New York,
and Columbus, Ohio.
"Philadelphia's deep-rooted place

Democrats across the country to

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz,
the DNC chief, said in a statement.
The site could serve as a passing

BEIRUT (AP)
Syrian opposition leader
called Thursday on
world leaders to take
"immediate action" to
end government attacks on rebelheld suburbs of Damascus, amid
reports that some 150 people have
been killed in government airstrikes
in the past 10 days.
Khaled Khoja, leader of the Syrian
National Coalition, made the appeal
at a press conference held from the
group's base in Turkey.
The government has been pounding
the eastern suburbs of Damascus
known as Ghouta for days as part
of a military campaign against
rebel-held districts east and south
of the capital Damascus. Douma, a
sprawling town east of Damascus,
has taken the brunt of the airstrikes.

northeastern Nigeria, looking
to overwhelm Chadian troops
who had pushed them out of
the border town.
The military in N'Djamena
said the militants were
repelled but the counter-attack
was an indication of the task
facing regional forces aiming
to crush the rebellion.
Troops from Chad, Cameroon
and Niger have been deployed
to fight the Islamists, whose
bloody insurgency has claimed
more than 13,000 lives since
2009 and now threatens
Nigeria's neighbours.
In Niger a suicide bomber was
killed, without causing any
other casualties, in the Diffa
region bordering Nigeria on
Wednesday, a local official
told AFP.
The bomber, a man or woman
wearing a hijab, was spotted by
police who opened fire. "The
explosion left no victims," the
official said.
Nigeria's President Goodluck
Jonathan defended a decision
to delay the country's general
election by six weeks because
of the unrest, saying he was
"very hopeful" that the multinational offensive will see
successes against the Islamists
in the coming weeks.
"Initially, our neighbours were
not too committed" to fighting
Boko Haram but the new
cooperation was promising, he
said.

its Russian border by the end
of 2015 under a peace deal

all-night negotiations between
Russia, Ukraine, France and
Germany.
The deal was full of potential
pitfalls that could derail its
implementation, however. In
announcing the plan, Russia
and Ukraine differed over
what exactly they had agreed
to in the marathon 16-hour
talks, including the status of
Debaltseve, a key town now
under rebel siege.
Russian President Vladimir

agreement envisages a ceasefire beginning Sunday (2200

as well as a special status for
Ukraine's separatist regions and
provisions to address border

repeatedly targeted in the past,

the militants, who have seized

since mid-2014.

The extent of the rebels'

control of the captured areas
has been hard to verify, with
claim and counter-claim that
the authority has repeatedly
switched
between
the
insurgents and the military.
Boko Haram's apparent ability
to regroup is a sign of its
transformation from a rag-tag
guerrilla group carrying out
hit and run strikes to a more
effective fighting force.
The insurgents were initially
pushed out of Gamboru, which
lies on the Nigerian side of the
border with Cameroon in the
eastern fringe of Borno state,
on February 3.
Chadian ground troops crossed
over the bridge marking the
frontier after days of sustained

"The Boko Haram elements

of the latest attack.
"We were aware of it from the

Chancellor Angela Merkel,

Francois Hollande. "But the
concrete steps, of course,
have to be taken. And we will

But, on balance, I can say

what we have achieved gives
significantly more hope than if
we had achieved nothing."
More than 5,300 people have
died since April in eastern
Ukraine amid fighting between
the Russian-backed separatists
and government troops. Battles
still raged Thursday even as the
four leaders held peace talks.
The new deal envisages a 50to 140-kilometer (31- to 87mile) wide buffer zone as both
parties pull back heavy artillery
and rocket systems from
the front line, depending on
their caliber. The withdrawal
should begin no later than the
second day after the cease-fire
becomes effective and should
be completed within two
weeks.

In a win for Ukraine, the rebel
regions, which held their own
elections last fall that Ukraine
and the West declared a sham,
are obliged to hold a new local
vote under the Ukrainian law.
But in a key concession to
Russia, the deal says the

over its border with Russia in
rebel-controlled areas could
be completed only by the end
of 2015 and on the condition

A devastating attack on
the fishing hub of Baga on
January 3 has been seen as
a turning point in regional
cooperation,
galvanising
neighbouring powers into
providing assistance to the
Nigerian Army.
Since then, there have been
repeated attacks in northern
Cameroon, while the Islamists
last weekend opened up a
new front across the border
in Niger, attacking the border
region of Diffa.
Niger President Mahamadou
Issoufou on Wednesday urged
his nation to stand up to Boko
Haram Islamists.
"Our country will not go
down in history as having
been cowed by an enemy that
wants to cover our country in
darkness," Issoufou said in a
speech broadcast on national
radio, urging Nigeriens to
support their security forces
in their battle against the
militants.
The appeal came a day after
Niamey imposed a 15-day
state of emergency in Diffa,
where thousands of Nigerians
have fled the violence.

At the same time, all four
countries, whose borders
converge on Lake Chad, with
Benin, Nigeria's neighbour to
the west, agreed to provide
8,700 personnel for an African
Union-backed regional force.
Boko Haram leader Abubakar

published on Monday that
the group would defeat the
regional forces.

NATO.
The deal, however, requires the
Ukrainian parliament to give
wide powers to the eastern
regions as a condition for
restoring Ukraine's full control
over its border with Russia
a provision certain to trigger
heated debate in Kiev.
Uncertainty remained even
on the cease-fire, as Putin
admitted he and Poroshenko

that Ukraine conducts a

constitutional reform granting
wide powers to the eastern
regions, including the right to
form their own police and to
trade freely with Russia.
"It was not the best night in my
life. But the morning, I think,
is good, because we have
managed to agree on the main
things despite all the difficulties
of the negotiations," Putin told
reporters.
Hollande said he and Merkel
are committed to helping
verify the cease-fire in Ukraine,
hailing the deal as a "relief to
Europe."
In Kiev, Ukrainian military
spokesman Andriy Lysenko
said despite the peace talks,
Russia sent 50 tanks and
a dozen heavy weapons
overnight into Ukraine.
In the rebel stronghold of
Donetsk, residents who have
seen their city pounded daily
by artillery since late May were
skeptical of the deal.
"We will see whether there will
be a cease-fire or not," Tatyana
Griedzheva said. "You have
seen it with your own eyes, the
kind of cease-fire that we have
already had."

new contract, the club's coach
Jurgen Klopp revealed on
Wednesday.
The 25-year-old was widely
expected to leave Signal

with his previous deal
containing a 25 million buyout clause that had reportedly
attracted interest from Real

But,

greeted warmly by his teammates.
"I am really happy he came to
his decision," Klopp said at a
press conference.

"Marco is very relaxed

we can convert this into a

applause in the dressing room
which I thought was pretty

I am glad he receives the

In

renewed sense of optimism
at Dortmund on the back
of Saturday's 3-0 win over
Freiburg, a result that saw the
club climb off the bottom of
the Bundesliga table and into
16th place.
Klopp believes the winger's
actions set a valuable
example to the rest of the
dressing room, while praising
his conduct throughout the
negotiations. "I believe in
the symbolic strength of his
actions.

The 16-year-old is one of the

BYC meet Real in Gambia; Fassell take on Horoya in Mali in Caf matches
- Danesius Marteh, danesius.marteh@frontpageafricaonline.com -

arrack Young Controllers (BYC) and FC

Fassell will honor a continental engagement,
which have been eclipsed by Ebola, on
Sunday.
BYC are guests of Gambias Real de Banjul in the Caf
Champions League in Banjul.
The visitors have not played a competitive match since
drawing 0-0 with LISCR at the Antoinette Tubman
Stadium (ATS) on the final day of the LFA first division
league on March 25, 2014.
The draw ensured BYC won the championship for the
second successive season with a point above LPRC
Oilers.
BYC may appear match rusty but their five friendlies in
which they scored more than 24 goals suggest the Go
Blues Boys will not be a walk in the park.
Real go into the match in a better shape, having drawn
1-1 with Brikama United in the Gambian premier league
on February 7.
They are unbeaten after seven rounds, with three wins,
four draws, eight goals scored and five goals conceded.
Real are joint third on the 12-team table with 13 points,
one below Gamtel.
BYCs trip looks to be in jeopardy when Gambian
President Yaya Jammeh ordered the civil aviation
authority not to grant them landing rights due to fears

of spreading Ebola.
After several email exchanges with Caf, Gambian
and Liberian FAs, BYC president Sekou Konneh was
pleased that the impasse was resolved.
We had some hurdles from the Gambian authority but
we have finally gotten the go ahead for the airline to be
able to issue the tickets for our game, said Konneh.
Head coach Robert Lartey will not count on the services
of star midfielder Benjamin Gbamy, who has been
suspended by the LFA for his role in an under-20 saga in
which his teammates went on strike in demand of wages
due them.
Konneh said it was unfortunate that Gbamy alone had to
bear the burden of a collective decision.
This is quite unfortunate that the LFA has taken this
decision because we got involved from the onset and we
even went and got the materials [seized by the players]
and brought to the FA but Gbamy is being penalized for
something hes personally responsible for.
This was a collective decision of the team but being
the captain of the team, he had to take delivery of the
materials. So on the basis of that, he alone is
now suffering it [from the punishment], Konneh said.
He wondered why the head of delegation, team manager
and technical staff of the under-20 team, who lost 2-0 to
the Ivory Coast last May, werent neither investigated

nor penalized in relation to the strike action.

BYC are making their second successive
appearance in Caf competitions.
BYC II, their junior team, debuted in the
Confederation Cup in 2013 and eliminated
FC Johannes of Sierra Leone in the
preliminary before bowing out to Tanzanias

PRICE L$40

Azem FC in the first round.

The senior team, BYC I eliminated
Ghanas Asante Kotoko on the away
goal rule (2-2 on aggregate) before
losing to Ivory Coasts Sewe Sport 4-3
on aggregate in the first round of the
Champions League in March 2014.
Elsewhere, Fassell and AC Horoya
of Guinea will be pleased they didnt
endure off the field problems like
BYC, although the Confederation of
African Football (Caf) banned football
activities in Guinea, Sierra Leone and
Liberia due to the Ebola epidemic.
Like BYC, Fassell have not played a
competitive match since the Soccer
Missionaries beat Nimba United 5-2 in
a second division championship playoff at the ATS on March 17, 2014.
Horoya will enter the 50,000 capacity
Stade du 26-Mars in Bamako in a
buoyant mood, having beaten Fello
Star 3-1 on February 6 in Ligue One.
They are unbeaten in six games and top
the league with 14 points (four wins,
two draws, 11 goals for and four goals
against).
Fassell will also host Horoya at the
same venue on February 27 after the
Malian Football Association agreed
to a request from the Liberia Football
Association (LFA).
One bad omen is that Liberian teams,
whether at club or national level, have
not won away in many years. So a draw
will be good for BYC and Fassell ahead
of the return legs.
