Examination: 70% of course mark
Students will take a closed-book final examination for this course on Monday, 30 April 2015 at 1:00 pm. They will
be required to answer all four questions in the examination paper i.e. all questions are compulsory with no choice.
Continual Assessment (CA): 30% of course mark
The Continual Assessment (CA) for this course consists of the following three components:1. Quiz #1: Monday, 16 February 2015, 4:30 5:20 pm at LT1 based on tutorial grouping.
2. Quiz #2: Thursday, 2 April 2015, 3:30 pm or 4:30 pm depending on your tutorial group at either CAE1
Lab (N3-B3b-05) or CAE2 Lab (N3.2-01-34).
3. Attendance, Class Participation & Homework: (i) Students are expected to attend and participate in
every tutorial session. They should bring along their notebook computers or tablets (with projection
accessories) and be prepared to share what they have done for each tutorial question. (ii) Students are
expected to hand in two sets of handwritten homework assignments to their tutors, one on Week 6 (starting
16 February 2015) and the other on Week 10 (starting 23 March 2015). Homework questions will be
posted on NTULearn one week before the due date.
Details for both quizzes will be announced in due course.
Note that it is compulsory for a student to take both quizzes for this course. In the case of absence due to
medical reasons, the student must arrange with the Course Coordinator for a make-up quiz not later than
two weeks after that quiz, failing which he or she would be considered to be absent and given 0 mark for that
component of the CA. The original medical certificate (MC) with the appropriate Leave of Absence form
should be endorsed by respective tutor and submitted to the MAE Undergraduate Office with a scanned
version emailed to the Course Coordinator and the tutor concerned.

You should read relevant sections of textbook before attending the lectures.
You should also read the examples given in the textbook to supplement those given in the lectures.
2.
Tutorials
You are expected to attend and participate in every tutorial session to reinforce the concepts taught
in the lectures. You should also engage in collaborative discussion among your group members
seated around each table in the TR+ tutorial rooms. Each group will send a representative to give
a short presentation on the tutorial question as designated by your tutor.
You should treat each tutorial session as the deadline to solve all questions in the corresponding
tutorial sheet. All students are to submit their hand-written solutions to two (2) homework sets at
the start of their Tutorial 5 and 9 sessions. Homework questions will be available two weeks
before the submission deadlines. Students are expected to submit their own work and refrain from
copying from other students or from the internet. Copied submissions will be severely penalised.
Note that class participation during the tutorial sessions and homework submissions will be
assessed as part of the CA for this course.
3.
Lecture Slides
Copies of lecture slides are not lecture notes and should not be the only material you will read
for this course. You should use the lecture slides as frameworks for you to make your own notes
after attending the lectures and reading the textbook. The ability to make your own notes and write
summaries of the course material covered will put you in good stead for life-long learning after
your graduation from NTU.
The scope of examination includes the topics given in the reading assignment and what is taught
in the lecture and tutorial sessions, which may or may not be stated in the lecture slides.
4.
To master the concepts taught in this course and apply them to solve heat transfer problems, you
should be prepared to spend the following minimum number of self-study hours to review your
lecture materials, to solve your tutorial questions, and to prepare for your quizzes:Lectures and Tutorials
