The cervical disc replacement operation is performed under general
anaesthesia. For cervical disc replacement, an anterior approach to
the cervical spine is used. A horizontal incision of 3-5 cm is made
on one side of the neck. The damaged disc is exposed and
removed. The damaged disc is then completely removed along with
the impinging disc fragments or osteophytes. The disc space is
distracted to its normal disc height to decompress the nerves. After
removal of the disc, the disc replacement device is sized and placed
between the vertebrae. Fluoroscopy is used to facilitate proper
