Basic
This version enables the status confirmation, setting, adjustment, and
replacement of Yokogawa's BRAIN devices, and HART, Foundation Fieldbus
H1, and PROFIBUS devices (including those of other vendors).
It can only be used when the device is directly connected via:
USB FieldMate modem (BRAIN)
NI-FBUS (Foundation Fieldbus H1)
USB HART modem/USB FieldMate modem (HART)
PROFIusb (PROFIBUS)

Communication Protocols and Communication Routes

FieldMate supports BRAIN, Foundation Fieldbus H1, PROFIBUS, and HART
communication protocols and direct connection (NI-FBUS, USB FieldMate modem,
USB HART modem, and PROFIusb) communication routes. It also handles devices
with different communication protocols or communication routes at the sametime.

Adoption of open FDT/DTM

FieldMate has the function serving as an FDT container that is in compliance with
FDT 1.2 Addendum.

Recording of Operation Logs

Operations performed using this software are saved as logs for later reference.

Device Interaction Functions

Simply connecting field devices to a physical segment allows FieldMate to
recognize them automatically and display the operation status of individual field
devices in an easy-to-understand way.
Furthermore, FieldMate can configure initial settings such as tag and address
settings. It also runs DTM to check and set field device parameters, and runs DD
Menu, DTM, and other functions to set and adjust devices.

Device Parameter Management Function

This function enables the uploading and downloading of snapshots of device
parameters, exporting and importing to/from a file, and comparison.

IMPORTANT
Notes on Modifying Tags for Foundation Fieldbus Devices
1. Specification
y When a tag is modified, the communication connection information (VCR and Link
Object) is automatically cleared. This information is defined in the Foundation
Fieldbus specification.
y When a tag is modified, the schedule information of the function block
(FB_START_ENTRY) is automatically cleared. This information is defined in the
function specification for communication cards of National Instruments.
To conclude: When a tag is set, the schedule information and communication connection
information are automatically cleared.
2. Yokogawa Device Operation
When the schedule information of the function block is cleared, the operation of AI Block
stops and the LCD display values (for example, a pressure value in the case of EJA)
cannot indicate the current state.
You need to be careful, because there is a possibility that the displayed PV value
(usually, OUT of AI Block) is different from the actual value. You can confirm the actual
value in Device Viewer.

DTM Works
DTM Works is a frame application in which device DTM is able to run.
DTM (Device Type Manager) is a GUI application specifically designed for devices
that enables devices specific parameters to be set. Because it complies with the
FDT/DTM standards, it also enables the parameters to be adjusted or set in the
same window in others host systems that support DTM.
TIP
The following describes the Yokogawa device DTM. When you use the device DTM of other
manufacturer, operation and display are subject to change depending on the device manufacturers.
Refer to the instruction manual for the device DTM of the respective manufacturers.

Built-in Connection (BIC Mode)

This connection mode called Built-in Connection employs a built-in communication
method of FieldMate, which is available for the four communication protocols HART,
Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS, and BRAIN.
For HART and BRAIN communication, you can use an optional USB FieldMate modem
by directly connecting it to the field device.
Also, for Foundation Fieldbus and PROFIBUS communication, you need to separately
purchase a NI-FBUS from National Instruments (for Foundation Fieldbus) and a
PROFIusb from Softing (for PROFIBUS), and connect them to the bus to which the field
device is connected.
Built-in Connection can be used for both Basic and Advance.

DTM has the following two device parameter setup windows:
Online Parameter window:
Used to directly display, set, or modify device internal parameters in the connected
status.
The Online Parameter window is available only in the connected status.
In addition, the Online Parameter window enables the display of dynamic data such
as process data, in addition to setting parameters.
Online Parameter function
Communicating with the connected device directly, parameters are displayed and
adjusted. Parameters are categorized in the tree view on a function basis. It
displays the respective DTM window on the tree view selection.
Offline Parameter window:
This window is used to set device parameters in the device DTM regardless of the
connection status of communication with a device. Thus, in the Offline Parameter
window, device internal parameters cannot be directly displayed, set, or modified.
Offline Parameter function
Parameters are managed without communication with the device. Device
parameters sets are loaded and saved from/to database offline.
Upload from Device:
Uploads device internal parameters to the device parameters in the device DTM.
Executing Upload from Device causes parameters displayed in the Offline
Parameter window to be replaced by device internal parameters.
Download to Device:
Downloads the device parameters in the Device DTM that have been edited in the
Offline Parameter window to device internal parameters. (Note)
(Note)

In an environment in which operation is performed regardless of connection to a device, a

device can be added before it is delivered, for example, to edit the device parameters on the
Offline Parameter window in advance. These parameters can then be written to the device
using Download to Device after the device has been delivered and installed.

Parameter Manager

Overview
Parameter Manager has the following functions. HART / Foundation Fieldbus H1
devices are supported.
1. Uploads device parameters.
2. Exports and imports parameters to/from TSV files.
3. Compares the parameters of the connected device with those imported from a file
and checks differences.
4. Selects the parameters for download and then downloads them to the device.
5. Enables parameters freely selected by the user from all the parameters to be
assigned to a Custom tab for up to 5 groups. The selection becomes a common
definition for identical device models. For Foundation Fieldbus H1 devices,
parameter assignment is possible across Foundation Fieldbus H1 blocks.
A DD (Device Description) file corresponding to the device is required to use these
functions. DD files are provided by device vendors. The "Device Files CD-ROM"
includes redistributable DD files obtained from the HART Communication Foundation
and Fieldbus Foundation.

-

Any parameter value that will not fit in the display area is displayed in a text tool tip.

The engineering unit is displayed on both the Device Values area and Work area.
(Only for parameters with an engineering unit.)

The display/edit format is applied, which means that when values are displayed,
they are displayed in accordance with the display format defined in the DD. Also,
when values are edited, they are displayed in accordance with the edit format
defined in the DD.

The scaling factor is applied, which means that parameters for which a scaling
factor is defined by the DD are displayed by the scaling factor being multiplied to a
value read from the connected device.

In the search screen, searches for parameter names including input characters are
performed in order. Searching for values is not supported.

Indicates that the parameter values in the Device Values area and Work area are the
same.

Magenta

Indicates that for writable parameters there is a difference between the values in the
Device Values area and Work area. (Note that this does not indicate that the parameters
are targeted to be downloaded.) If even one of the parameters in the tab is in magenta,
the magenta symbol is displayed beside the tab name.

Yellow

Indicates that for read-only parameters there is a difference between the values in the
Device Values area and Work area. If even one of the parameters in the tab is in yellow,
the yellow symbol is displayed beside the tab name.

Checkboxes beside Parameters

Checkboxes are only displayed for writable parameters. If checkmarks are added to the
checkboxes, the corresponding parameters are written to the device in the order that
they are displayed in the window when the Download Checked Parameters command is
executed.
If a parameter-value display area in the Work area changes from its original color to
magenta, a checkmark is also added to the checkbox.
In other words, immediately after the parameters are loaded into the Work area when
File or Database is selected, checkmarks are added to the checkboxes of all writable
parameters for which there is a difference between values in the Work area and Device
Values area. That is, all parameters indicated in magenta.
Furthermore, when a value is edited in the window and the parameter-value display area
changes from its original color to magenta, a checkmark is also added to the checkbox.

Overview
The features of Advance are indicated below.

IMPORTANT
Advance includes all of the functions of Basic.

Device Maintenance Information Management Function

By managing the information regarding the maintenance of the device on a

database, Advance supports the maintenance/management of the device. It
manages device parameter values and maintenance memos for a maximum of 300
devices. Advance also enables the user to refer to or change the device
maintenance information of devices that are before delivery/actual placement.

User Management Function

This function defines the FieldMate user account (user ID, password).

Cases of Use
FieldMate Advance is supposed to be used in the following two ways, and provides an
operation system and performs data management accordingly.
1. Setting and adjustment on a workbench, etc. before on-site installation.
Or setting and adjustment at installation site.
This way of use is common for both Basic and Advance.
2. Setting and adjustment remotely via network.
This way of use is only for Advance.
The uses described above are selected by switching between Built-in Connection and

Registering Device Maintenance Information

Overview
There are several ways to register device maintenance information.
1. Offline registration
There are two ways to register offline; manual registration and import registration.
Offline registration means that FieldMate is not connected.
Manual registration
Registration is done in the Device Navigator.
Enter the device maintenance information to register.
Import registration*
Registration is done in the Device Navigator.
Import device files or device templates to register.
* See F-1-2-3 Importing and Exporting Device Maintenance Information

2. Online registration
Select the device in the Segment Viewer (Built-in Connection mode) and obtain
information from the device to register.
There are two types of registration; New registration and Overwrite registration (The
latter overwrites the existing device maintenance information with information
obtained from the connected device).
Overwrite registration applies to devices registered offline.
As for devices that are before delivery or actual installation, it is possible to register
manually or by import, and then register by overwrite after the connected device is
delivered.

Segment Viewer

Overview
Advance is supposed to be used in the following two ways and provides an appropriate
operating procedure and data management.
1. When you make settings and adjustments at the workbench, before installing
devices in the field, or when you make settings and adjustments in the field for
installed devices.
The Segment Viewer displays the list of HART/Foundation
Fieldbus/PROFIBUS/BRAIN devices that are directly connected to FieldMate by
physical linkage.
: Available for both Basic and Advance.
2. When you make settings and adjustments for installed devices via network
You can register a device online, and display/set the device maintenance
information.
: Available for Advance.
There are two connection modes available, which are called Built-in Connection and
User Defined Connection.

Built-in Connection (BIC Mode)

The BIC mode is a built-in connection mode of FieldMate. This mode is available for the
four types, HART, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS, and BRAIN. For HART and BRAIN,
you can perform communication using an optional HART/BRAIN modem of FieldMate by
connecting it directly to the field device.
For Foundation Fieldbus and PROFIBUS, you can perform communication by
purchasing a NI-FBUS of National Instruments, (for Foundation Fieldbus) or a
PROFIusb of Softing, (for PROFIBUS) and connecting it to the bus to which the field
device is connected.
The BIC mode is available for both Basic and Advance.

User Defined Connection (UDC Mode)

The UDC mode requires installing its COMM/Gateway DTM, and define the network
topology according to the COMM/Gateway DTM for the connection to the field device.
The UDC mode is available only for Advance

User Defined Connection

Built-in Connection supports the communication paths for HART, Foundation Fieldbus,
PROFIBUS, and BRAIN direct connections. If you want to build a communication path
other than the HART, Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS, and BRAIN direct connections
that are supported in Built-in Connection, you can use User Defined Communication. If
you want to use a communication protocol that is not supported in Built-in
Communication, you can also use User Defined Connection. If you want to create a
communication path and register a device using User Defined Connection, you need to
separately obtain and install the Comm DTM, Gateway DTM, Device DTM, or a
communication interface card if needed.
The following describes the outline of the procedure for how to use User Defined
Connection.
1. Install the Comm DTM, Gateway DTM, Device DTM, and a communication interface
card on a PC installed with FieldMate.
2. Update the DTM catalog in DTM Setup. *
3. Select User Defined Connection in Segment Viewer. Start DTM Works by selecting
New FDT Project.
4. Select and assign the Comm DTM and Gateway DTM from the list of installed
Comm DTMs, Gateway DTMs, and Device DTMs.
5. Configure the Comm DTM and Gateway DTM to create a communication path.
6. Select the Device DTM and assign the device.
(The communication path that was created above when assigning the device is a
FDT Project name).
7. Select the device, start up DTM Works, and set and adjust the device.
*:

When you add or delete a Comm DTM, Gateway DTM, or Device DTM, you need to update the DTM catalog.
You can update the DTM catalog in DTM Setup.

Relation between FDT Project and Device

Maintenance Info
TIP
The information in this chapter is useful when you configure the advanced settings to create a FDT
Project.

The following describes the differences between the device DTM data in the FDT Project
and the DTM data in the device maintenance information in the database, and how to
assign the information.

Differences
y A FDT Project stores the Device DTM data, Comm DTM data, and Gateway DTM
data.
Also, device maintenance information stores only the Device DTM data.
y A FDT Project stores one set of DTM data for the device.
Also, device maintenance information can store up to five sets of device DATM
data.

Assigning
y You can assign the device maintenance information to the device DTM in the FDT
Project.
The device DTM data in the FDT Project and in the device maintenance information
are saved in different areas. Therefore, although the FDT Project is saved, the
device DTM data in the device maintenance information is not updated.
The device DTM data can be transferred between the FDT Project and device
maintenance information. For example, when the device DTM is selected in DTM
Works and saved to the database with Save to Database, the device DTM data in
the FDT Project is saved to the device maintenance information.
y You cannot assign different device DTMs in the FDT Project to the same device
maintenance information.
y The FDT Project is deleted, but the assigned device maintenance information is not
deleted.
The device DTM is deleted in DTM Works, but the assigned device maintenance
information is not deleted.
In both cases, only the relevant FDT Project item in "Device Info - Communication
Path" for Device Maintenance Info is deleted.
y Although the device maintenance information is deleted, the assigned FDT Project
is not deleted.
When DTM Works is running in the UDC mode, the device maintenance information
to which the FDT Project is assigned cannot be deleted, and also the device
information cannot be changed.
