PHASE 2 LESSON PLAN TEMPLATE

Teacher: Streche Delia Ionela, Romania

A. Students and Setting
Students:
My students are aged 6. This is their first year of English and they are very receptive.
Setting:
This is a public school where there are 24 students in the preparatory grade class. The
teacher has the same students once a week. English lessons last 35-40 minutes each
day. Students go to the English room every time they have English lessons.
B. Lesson Background:
Students are learning about animals on the farm. This is their first time talking about this
subject in English, so the type of lesson is acquisition of new knowledge. Students are
working on their writing, speaking, reading and listening skills, adapted to their level of
understanding.
C. Learning Objectives/Expected Results:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to learn some animals on the farm.
They should also remember numbers 1- 5, learnt before. They should recognize the
sounds of the animals and practise the structure It s a . through a game. At the
end of the lesson, they learn a new song about farm animals. The teaching strategies
that I used for this lesson are: conversation, dialogue, exercises, brainstorming,
individual work, and frontal activities. I have prepared extra worksheets for quicker
students, to keep them busy.
D. Materials and Sources:
Materials
I also used some Teaching Materials, such as: blackboard, chalk, hand puppet, video
projector, computer, crayons, and worksheets.
Sources
I found my worksheets on the internet, at no special address. I just looked for
worksheets related to the topic and adapted my exercises to what I found.
E. Procedures / Timing:
Activity 1- Introducing new vocabulary
Teacher does/says . . .
The Teacher shows Students a picture of a farm ( worksheet 1). She tells Students to
look at the picture and to guess where it is from. Then she asks what animals live on a
farm. She introduces the new vocabulary from the lesson.

Students do/say . . .
Students repeat the new words.
Estimated time: 10 minutes
Activity 2- Matching
Teacher does/says . . .
The Teacher gives Students some worksheets ( worksheet 2) and tells them what they
have to do: with her help, they have to complete the names of the animals and then to
match the names with the pictures. After that, the Teacher checks their answers. The
Teacher has also prepared worksheet 4 ( to color it ) for faster Students, in order to let
slower Students work at their own speed. She helps Students complete worksheet 2.
Students do/say . . .
Because it is a dotted exercise, Students are able to perform the task, even if they don t
write in English at this age. Then they say loudly their answers.
Estimated time: 10 minutes
Activity 3- Numbers and animals
Teacher does/says . . .
The Teacher asks Students to remember numbers 1- 5. They repeat them together.
Then they receive a worksheet ( worksheet 3) with numbers 1- 5 and some animals.
Students do/say . . .
Students have to number the animals and to draw lines to the correspondent animals.
Students solve the task and check it with the whole class.
Estimated time: 5 minutes
Activity 4- Playing a game
Teacher does/says . . .
The Teacher presents a hand puppet called Patch. She then explains the rules of the
game: she imitates a sound of an animal, and Students try to guess the animal. They
use the structure: It s a .
Students do/say . . .
Students who complete the task well receive a smiling face.
Estimated time: 5 minutes
Activity 5- It s song time!
Teacher does/says . . .
The Teacher plays a song on the computer ( worksheet 5) and then she repeats the
new words with the Students. After that, they sing it together with the computer. I found
a song in one of my older textbooks ( Set Sail 3), but any easy song about farm animals
will do.
Students do/say . . .
Students learn the song and sing along.
Estimated time: 10 minutes

F. Alternative Assessment:
The teacher uses vocabulary related to animals on the farm. She will help students with
vocabulary and phrasing as they speak during activities. This lesson integrates the four
skills; though students will be speaking most of the time, they will need to write some
dotted words, to count some animals and they will need to listen to the Teacher and to
their colleagues. The lesson includes assessment during individual work which will help
me find out which students need more help with speaking assignments.
G. Classroom Management:
Even though it isnt a group work, the activities may be adapted in a suitable way for
every teacher. I chose to work both with the whole class and with individual students so
that to have the chance to listen to everybody in the class and to adapt to their learning
needs.
H. Reflection - Phase 2
First of all, the level is different. Also the materials are different and more offering,
according to the students level. The variety of activities is also more visible in the
second lesson plan. I have included all four topics of the course: integrated skills,
alternative assessment, differentiated instruction/individual learner differences, and
classroom management as following:
- all the skills were present in the lesson, in different ways and at different lengths;
- the alternative assessment through worksheets and the final song, to see if they
remember the new words;
- the differentiated instruction/individual learner differences through the extra
worksheet for faster students, not to get bored or to disrupt the class;
- the classroom management was also assured by the worksheets and the fact
that the teacher must always walk through the classroom in order to control the
students.
