This poem with entitled Over the destiny can be analyzed by some
aspects, those are; title, paraphrase, connotation, attitude, shift, title,
theme. It will be discussed one by one.
A. Title
A title is one important thing in a poem. We can speculate on the
title of the poem. Tika give Over the destiny as her title. From this title
we can speculate that the contents of this poem tells about a relationship
with someone that have ever been experienced by the author.
B. Paraphrase
A restatement of a text or passage in another form or other words, often to
clarify meaning. This poem has four stanzas. The paraphrase of each
stanza as follows:
a) Stanza 1 (4 lines)
Just by looking at your face appear on my screen,
I had nothing more to wish for
You only left a goodbye behind
You came to me like a dream,
(she felt that the character of this poem is like she remember about
someone in the past)
b) Stanza 2 ( 4 lines )

C. Conotation
Connotation is an implied meaning that is associated with a word in
addition to its literal meaning. This association can be cultural or
emotional. Connotation has some aspects, such as; Imagery, figures of
speech (simile, metaphor, personification, symbolism, etc), diction, point
of view, and sound devices (alliteration, onomatopoeia, rhythm, and
rhyme). Not all of those aspects appear in this poem. The connotation
analysis of this poem as follows:
1. Figure of Speech
A figure of speech is figurative language in the form of a
single word or phrase. It can be a special repetition, arrangement or
omission of words with literal meaning, or a phrase with a
specialized meaning not based on the literal meaning of the words.
There are mainly five figures of
speech: simile, metaphor, hyperbole, personification, symbolism.
The figure of speech in this poem is:
- personification ;A figure of speech that gives human
qualities to animal, objects or idea.

(words dream means that he came to her just like fantasy,
and not for a long time)
2. Point Of View
Point of view is the angle of vision from which a story or a poetry
is narrated. In prose and poetry, fiction or non-fiction, someone is
always between the reader and the events inside the writing. This
"someone" is the author (as narrator), or the characters that the
author creates

E. Shift

gradual realization, and the poem is a reflection of that understanding or

I think the title Over the destiny represents a relationship between the
author and her couple in the past. But, she couldnt forget him, she always
think of him and she want to him to comeback to her. Title match the
content of the poem.
G. Theme
Theme of a poem may be stated explicitly, but more often it is implicit,
and must be determined by a close reading. First, determine the subject of
the poem, that is, what the poem is explicitly talking about. Next, ask
yourself why the poet chose this subject for the poem, and what larger
ideas or issues the poet is talking about through this subject. Common
