ENGLISH LANGUAGE TESTING AND EVALUATION GED 4023
PROJECT (30%)

ASSIGNMENT (Individual or Pair Work Only)

There are THREE (3) tasks for this course assignment. The details of the
tasks are explained below:
TASK I: Prepare a Test Paper
You are to write 20 items of multiple choice questions (MCQs) for a subject,
using several different item formats and measuring several different
cognitive processes. In order to ensure the quality of your test paper, you
need to prepare the following:
a) A table of specification for the MCQs
b) 20 MCQs that cover both lower order and higher order thinking skills
( 10 questions from LOTS and 10 from HOTS)
c) Answer key
[TOTAL: 14 MARKS]
TASK II: Test Administration and Test Score Analysis (6 marks)
Administer the MCQs to a group of students (not fewer than 30 students).
Analyse the results using basic statistics. The analysis should consist of the
analysis of the measures of central tendency, the raw scores, Z - scores and
T - score. The overall analysis can be presented in the form of a table.

TASK III: The Item Analysis

Conduct an item analysis on the 20 MCQ items. Present the results of the
item difficulty, discrimination index and distracter index analysis of each
MCQ item according to the format suggested as follows or any other suitable
format that you have learnt from lectures or reference books:

Based on the item analysis, comment on the quality of the test paper. The
commentary should include interpretations of the results of item analysis
and suggestions on how to improve the quality of each item if the item does
not perform as it should be.

Submission Guidelines
1. Your assignment should be typed on A4 paper using 12 point Times
New Roman and 1.5 spacing
2. All assignment documents, including tables and charts, should be
appropriately labelled.
3. The hardcopy should be properly bound.
4. Assignment documents to be submitted are:
A table of specifications
An MCQ test paper with answer key
A report on test score analysis. The report should include a table
on pupils names and their respective raw scores, z-scores,Tscores, measures of central tendency,
A report on item analysis and a commentary on the quality of the
test paper.
Answer Scripts
5. Submit your project during the 3rd visit.
6. Cover should be in LIGHT GREEN ( APPLE GREEN) colour
7. Plagiarised project will be rejected.
