Executive Summary

The SBR submission that we have right now has some issues like smart
arts inclusion, excel submission, font types, deactivation of the submission link,
no check on the word limit etc. The SBR is not standard across all the groups
thereby making it difficult to evaluate the SBR in a uniform way and this form of
unstandardized SBR consumes time. The automated SBR will result in uniformity
upon submission and also will make the evaluation process much easier as there
will be a pattern followed in the submission.
Problem Statement
To automate the SBR and achieve a standard and consistency in
submission to attain uniformity.
Importance of the project
The project is significant as we are trying to attain a specific
standard and uniformity for the SBR that is submitted. This can make the
scoring process simpler and fairer to all the groups. Upon automating the
SBR, the focus will be more on the topic of submission, depth of
understanding and knowledge gained out of the course.
Organisational Impact
S P Jain would be benefitted by automating the SBR as the whole
cycle time of the evaluation will be reduced. The professors can directly
access the SBR from the submission link rather than depending on the
program office. This reduces the work of program office.
Key Issues
The current SBR is submitted in word or pdf format and there is no
predefined format or template that is followed by all the groups during
submission. There is no uniformity in the way the SBR is presented for
scoring. Students across different groups submit the SBR using bullets,
smart arts, tables, charts or by any other pictorial representation as per
the teams preference. At present, every group follows the same table at

the top of the SBR which contains the basic details of the team like group
number, group members, CEO name and date.
The format is open ended as each team follows its own way of
presenting the content. Even though the groups dont have any
restrictions

and

could

be

creative

in

their

submission,

the

evaluation/scoring process becomes tougher as every SBR is different and

also becomes time consuming for the professors to go through. This also
takes students time as they will have to work on the template and
structure every time. SBR must be accounted more for the content and
points that the team has come up with rather than focussing on the
presentation
Proposed Strategy
The SBR should be given a predefined template for every course in
the blackboard. Students will have to use the same template for the
answers. The template can vary according to the subjects needs and
requirements. This proposed strategy has to be tested live before going on
board so that technical issues could be overcome. Testing phase is very
important as it would enable smooth transition to the proposed strategy
from the existing ones.
Advantages of the Proposed Strategy

The proposed strategy will have to the point questions and corresponding
crisp answers which will avoid unnecessary dragging of answers. This

makes the evaluator easy to score the SBR

The current system lacks uniformity in the SBRs wherein the proposed
system will give uniformity so that the SBRs can be evaluated easily and

comparison becomes much easier.

The proposed system will give clarity to the students as they will come to
know what to answer and the key areas to be covered in the SBR. Even the
evaluator would find it easy to evaluate when there is a template for the

SBR answers
The proposed system will maintain all the submitted SBR files in the
blackboard and also their respective marks

Risks involved with the New System

There are challenges and risks associated with the new system when it is rolled
on live. Implementing and maintaining has challenges twinned to it.

The creativity of every team will be discouraged as every team has its

own way of answering and uniqueness connected to it

Closed ended questions may enable the students to streamline their

thinking and deliver better solution/answer to the SBR topic

New system may take some time for the students and faculties to get
used to .Temporary problems may hinder the performance of the students

for a short period of time

Even though punching the answers in the template may take less time,
there may be times when the answers may not get saved or may
randomly get saved in some other question/section

The disadvantages are less as compared to the advantages and it is

important to consider the transition time. Implementing with right template
that is designed according the needs of the subject would make the
submission and evaluation of the SBR much easier.
