consumos totales anteriormente comentados.
Volumen AGUA PCI = 580 m3/h (segn NFPA) x 4 horas=2.320 m3
5.1.2.

RFE-1-SG_-MRD-IDO-001

Rev. A
Pg/Page 12 de/of 23

L: longitud ............................................................................................................... 15,30 m

H: altura .................................................................................................................... 9,30 m

W: anchura ................................................................................................................ 7,50 m

d: longitud adicional para derrame ............................................................................ 2,00 m

BASES DE DISEO SISTEMA PCI

RFE-1-SG_-MRD-IDO-001

Rev. A
Pg/Page 13 de/of 23

Qs = Caudal superficial, 10,20 l/(minm2) segn NFPA-15.

THESE NOTES PROVIDE

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE WATER TO BE USED WITH THE WATER MIST FIRE
PROTECTION SYSTEM

GUIDELINES FOR FILLING THE GAS CYLINDERS WITH AIR OR NITROGEN DEPENDING
ON WHICH TYPE OF GAS IS TO BE USED.

Refer to the water mist system schematic diagram, MLI 4067, water mist system vendor drawings, and
the water mist system Design, Installation, Operation and Maintenance Manual for specific details on the
configuration and operation of the water mist system.
I. REQUIREMENTS FOR THE WATER TO BE USED WITH THE WATER MIST FIRE
PROTECTION SYSTEM
A. Water Requirements
Water is pumped to the spray heads by the Gas Pump Unit (GPU). The GPU is typically located on
the water mist skid.
The water supply to the GPU is typically stored in water tank(s) located on the water mist skid, but
may be supplied from a fire main or other water supply source.
The quality of the water supplied to the Gas Pump Unit (GPU) is to be the equivalent of a potable
supply. It shall be colorless and odorless, and it shall not be corrosive.
In all cases the water to the GPU must be routed through a < 100 m (0.0039 in) filter. This filter is
normally located on the GPU inlet and is shown on the water mist system schematic.
Before filling the water tank(s) on the water mist skid, or before connecting the water supply to the
GPU, the water supply line has to be cleaned and flushed, and the water quality requirements listed
below shall be established and maintained. Water requirements:
Water requirements:

Water Mist - Water Supply and Compressed Gas Requirements

The amount of organic material shall be kept to a minimum. And the biological and bacterial growth
in the water tanks shall be regularly monitored.
Distilled, de-mineralized, de-ionized or reverse osmosis water should not be used without adjustment
of the alkalinity (or pH value to ~ 8)
If the above requirements cannot be reached, the water shall be treated as described below:
B. Water treatment, General
Fire suppression additives shall not be applied.
The water in the water tanks, water supply, and in the GPU system shall not be shock chlorinated.
C. Water Treatment, Bacteriological Growth
If bacteriological growth is found the water should be either changed through flushing, or treated.
The treatment may not be corrosive.
Chlorine dioxide treatment may be used. Vernagroup's Purogene or Sanogene are possible treatment
alternatives. The manufacturer's instructions and recommendations and applicable authorities'
requirements are to be complied with.
Shock chlorinated water may be used only after ensuring that there is no free chlorine and the other
parameters are within the specifications.
NOTE
Chlorination increases chloride content.
D. Water Treatment, Corrosion
If the water is found corrosive an inhibitor may be used. The inhibitor may not contain nitrates or
sulphates. It is also to be ensured the inhibitor complies with applicable authorities' health and other
regulations.
Nalco's Silazur 100 is a recommended alternative. Other inhibitors may also be used provided they
are suitable for the materials used and not dangerous to people if they are exposed to the water mist.
E. Other Aspects
If sea water or other water not complying with the specifications has entered the system (for example
in an emergency situation) the system, including all affected branch piping, is to be thoroughly
flushed. The use of an inhibitor should be considered.

GEK 116732a

II. GUIDELINES FOR FILLING THE GAS CYLINDERS WITH AIR OR NITROGEN
DEPENDING ON WHICH TYPE OF GAS IS TO BE USED
The GPU derives its energy source from two banks of pressurized gas cylinders. The drive gas will be
either air or nitrogen depending on the project specific requirements.
A. Type of Gas Cylinders
Refer to the water mist system vendor's project specific drawings and instruction manual to determine
the number of and type of gas cylinders. In general the gas storage cylinders are industrial type, steel
gas cylinders complying with applicable country/state/local pressure vessel and transportable gas
container regulations. They are of minimum 49 liter (12.9 gallons) nominal capacity and have
nominal storage pressure in the range 170 250 bar (2460 3630 psi) (@ 15C [59F]). Refer to the
project specific drawings to determine the type, size, and gas operating pressure.
Each gas cylinder has an integral shut-off valve, and the gas cylinders within a bank are connected
together by a manifold. Each gas cylinder can be removed from the manifold by closing the gas
cylinder shut-off valve and disconnecting the fitting / hose that connects the gas cylinder to the
manifold.
CAUTION
Refer to applicable safety instructions attached to the gas cylinders, and to applicable
safety instruction in the operation and maintenance manual prior to servicing the gas
cylinders.

Water Mist Tubing/Piping: Field Installation Notes

II. INSTALLATION OF THE DISTRIBUTION TUBING/PIPING:

Total length of tubing/piping shall consider equivalent length in both feet and meters for appropriate
interconnect tubing fittings as shown in Table 1. This is to account for minor pressure losses in the water
mist interconnect piping system for bends, tees and couplings. The tubing wall thickness for the
interconnect tubing/piping for both metric and imperial units is also specified in Table 2. These are
approved tube sizes and thicknesses and shall be used as specified on the installation drawings.
Table 1. Equivalent Length of Fittings

Table 2. Recommended Tube Wall Thickness.

Tube inner diameter vervus outer diameter shown.

All bends are to be made by bending with R/D greater or equal to 2.5. Do not use elbow fittings. Straight
coupling (no reduction) does not need to be accounted for when calculating equivalent length.
Pipe length limitations are shown on Fire Protection Schematic, MLI 4067 If the length of field
tubing/piping is greater than the maximum amount, the system may not adequately extinguish fires. If the
length of field tubing/piping is less than the minimum amount specified, the ability of the system to
provide a 30 minute discharge may be compromised.
When designing the interconnect piping and determining the equivalent length, the number of elbows and
bends shall be limited to a maximum of 10.
If the requirements listed above become an issue, contact the responsible GE Design Engineer for
assistance. These guidelines ensure that the interconnect pipe will be designed to allow appropriate flow
to the nozzles. Site specific issues with the requirements will have to be evaluated to ensure NFPA 750,
the manufacturers listing and the flows to the nozzles are not compromised.

Cutting, bending, attachment of fittings and pipe cleaning will take place during field installation.
Installers shall be trained and certified and shall install the distribution tubing/piping in accordance with
documented procedures.
Tube cuts shall be square within +/- <1 and shall be made using a circular toothed cut-off saw or
hacksaw with an appropriate miter-type saw guide. In no case shall tubing be cut by hand or with a wheel
type tubing cutter.
De-burr the ID and OD of the tube end, to remove burrs and sharp edges use a hand or power de-burring
tool. Abrasive paper is not suitable for de-burring stainless tubing and shall not be used.
All tubing/piping, once cut to length and de-burred, shall be thoroughly cleaned after preparation, and
before assembly, by means of swabbing, utilizing a non-flammable organic solvent. The tubing/piping
network shall be free of particulate matter and oil residue. Debris present in the tube or on the tube end
can result in system contamination, clog the spray nozzles, or can get in the tube connection flange or
flare causing imperfections that are potential leak paths.
Cleaning shall be carried out to standard NAS 1638, class 9 or ISO 4406, class 18/15.
All support brackets and clamps shall be in accordance with NFPA 750 and shall be welded or bolted
securely and at spacing compliant with Table 3:

Water Mist Tubing/Piping: Field Installation Notes

Apply pipe joint compound or thread tape sparingly to male threads only. Note joint compound and or
tape should not be used on the interconnecting tubing fittings.
Any reduction or enlargement in pipe size must be made by using concentric reducers. Reducing
bushings are not acceptable.
The ambient storage temperature for the Water Mist System is between 40F (4C) and 130F (55C). If
the water mist skid is supplied without an enclosure it should be located indoors and maintained between
this temperature range. If the water mist skid is supplied with an enclosure, it will have the necessary
climate controls (heating and ventilation) sized for the project specific ambient conditions and it may be
located outdoors.
The distribution tubing/piping downstream of the section valves is normally dry and unpressurized and
heat tracing for sub-freezing conditions is not required. For a discharge in sub-freezing conditions, the
water flow rate in the distribution network is high enough to prevent freezing while the system is
discharging, but care must be taken to drain and/or blow the lines dry with compressed non-hazardous
gas immediately following a discharge to prevent freezing of the water in the lines. Refer to the water
mist supplier's operation and instruction manual for instructions on how to blow the lines dry using
compressed non-hazardous gas.
To ensure that there is no water accumulation that can freeze in the tubing/piping; the distribution
tubing/piping between the water mist pump skid and the protected zones must be sloped and must
incorporate low point drains/traps as shown in Figure 1. A minimum slope of 1.7% is required and the
tubing/piping must drain in the direction of the enclosures. Low points/traps must be provided as required
with plugs/caps that can be periodically opened to drain accumulated condensation. Low point
drains/traps should be heat traced, but the tubing runs themselves do not require heat tracing. The
required configuration of the interconnecting tubing/piping is shown in Figure 1. The tubing/piping will
drain to the ambient conditions (above freezing) of the water mist skid or the protected enclosure.

III. TESTING AND ACCEPTANCE OF THE DISTRIBUTION TUBING/PIPING (REFER TO NFPA

750 CHAPTER 12)
It shall be the responsibility of the Installer or Customer to insure that the installation meets the
requirements of NFPA 750, unless otherwise specified in the contract. It is strongly recommended that
qualified personnel conduct the initial startup and commissioning of the fire protection system. The
supplier of the Water Mist System should be contacted for information regarding qualified personnel
Prior to any tubing installation, tubing isometrics shall be provided to GE for approval from GE
Engineering and the Water Mist Skid Supplier. This is to ensure that the interconnect piping details are
per the manufacturer listing, and that hydraulic calculations can be verified to ensure that appropriate
flow rates can be maintained at each nozzle. As-Installed drawings and hydraulic calculations for asinstalled condition are a requirement of NFPA 750 so the interconnect piping has to be able to integrate
into the complete system design.
Hydrostatic testing of the tubing/piping shall be in accordance with NFPA 750. A discharge test is
required to ensure integrity of the installation, and the completed system shall be inspected and tested by
qualified personnel, per NFPA 750 and any other manufacturing requirements specified in the
Manufacturer Operation and Maintenance Manual.

DISCLAIMER
The hazardous areas referenced in these notes are based on an outdoor installation or ventilation equivalent to outdoor for a n
indoor installation unless specifically stated otherwise. The hazardous extent is based on a 50% of the Lower Flamma bility
Limit (LFL) concentration as recommended by API Recommended Practice 500 for outdoor (or equivalent) Class I, Division 2
environments. Where indoor conditions exist for the GE Scope of Supply, the hazardous extent is based on 25% of the LFL.
Estimated worst credible leak rates and hazardous area extents for typical piping connections are included on the Hazardous
Area Map drawing for use by the plant designer. Estimated leak rates for GE equipment is available upon request to facilitate
detailed indoor installation hazardous area evaluations if the customer determines his ventilation capacity is insufficient to
meet the outdoor equivalent requirement.
The combustible / flammable materials contained in / used by the GE Scope of Supply equipment include:
Fuel
Classification
Natural Gas Fuel
Gas Group D, temperature Class T1
Distillate Liquid Fuel
Gas Group D, temperature Class T3 when misted from high pressure*
Gaseous Hydrogen
Gas Group B, temperature Class T1
Mineral Lubrication Oil
Gas Group D, temperature Class T3 when misted from high pressure*
* Distillate and Mineral Oil leaks from sources exceeding 150 PSIg / 10.3 Bar are considered hazardous
The detailed hazardous area extents derived from unit specific studies and provided by this drawing supercede any general
hazardous area statement(s) that may exist on other drawings.
The hazardous area extents provided on the GE Energy Hazardous Area drawing are considered appropriate for wind
velocities up to 25 MPH / 40 KPH and considering the GE Scope of Supply only; equipment by others that may be located
nearby is an unknown factor that, although not expected to make a significant difference, is not included. Wind velocities i n
excess of this value will drive more rapid mixing of flammable / combustible material and the actual impact of such conditions
can only be ascertained via application of sophisticated methods (such as Computational Fluid Dynamics).
The 0331XXX reference identifiers in this drawing correspond to the equivalent callouts on the Project Hazardous Area Map
drawing 100T8367.

MLI 1643/1617 LOAD COMPARTMENT VENT FAN HAZMAP
The MLI 1643/1617 Load Compartment Vent Fans are mounted on the top of the MLI 1617 Load Compartment, do not contain hazardous
(flammable) fluids, and provide positive pressure ventilation (see MLI 0436 for air flow rate) for the interior of the MLI 1617 Load Compartment
which has been declared a Non Hazardous (US) area not requir ing rated electrical devices. To assure ventilation, there are redundant fans
operating in a Lead / Lag configuration. The fan motors, as a unit, are not rated for service in a hazardous area. The fan proper is not of a
non-sparking design and, to preclude potential gas build-up within the compartment; hazardous zones must not intersect the air inlets.
Customer NOTE: The Equipment Outline can be viewed at Project Net Folder 10.02.03-0326.
Therefore the fan assembly is classified as "FIXED POSITION EQUIPMENT WITH AN ASSOCIATED HAZARD.
The MLI 1643/1617 Load Compartment Vent Fans do not emit any hazardous mixtures and must NOT be intersected by any hazardous area

MLI 1643/A162 LIQUID FUEL MODULE VENT FAN HAZMAP
The MLI 1643/A162 Liquid Fuel Atomizing Air Module Vent Fans do not contain hazardous (combustible) liquid fuel; however, they provide
negative pressure ventilation (see MLI 0436 for air flow rate) for the interior of the A162 module, which is considered a Class I, Div ision 2 area
due to liquid fuel mist. For outdoor installations, the fans are located on the MLI A162 module roof. In the event of a worst credible leak internal
to the MLI A162 module, ventilated mist is estimated to create a Class I, Division 2 plume that extends approximately 32.80 Feet from the
ventilation system discharge along the discharge flow vector. This plume is a very rare event and is expected to be of a very short duration (less
than one minute) in that the flow perturbations that would result from such a sizeable leak would also result in unit anomalies that would exceed
operating limits resulting in a shutdown. The Class I, Division 2 plume described above is associated with the fan exhaust wherever it is located.
The interior of any ducting included in the ventilation system is considered a Class I, Div ision 2 environment. Additionally, any ducting between
the ventilation fan and the actual ventilation exit should be presumed to have a Class I, Division 2 area surrounding it to account for duct leakage.
The fan motors are rated TEFC construction (US) and the fan assemblies are Spark Resistance- AMCA B Rated; therefore, the fan assembly is
not impacted by intersections with other hazardous areas. To preclude potential gas buildup from external sour ces, hazardous areas must not
intersect the module inlets.
Customer NOTE: The Equipment Outline can be viewed at Project Net Folder 10.02.03-0326.
For an outdoor installation, the fan assembly is classified as "FIXED POSITION EQUIPMENT WITH AN ASSOCIATED HAZARD.
The MLI 1643/A162 Liquid Fuel Atomizing Air Module Vent Fans emit a hazardous liquid fuel mist should a leak occur within the MLI A162 Liquid
Fuel Atomizing Air Module. Floating position equipment containing non rated devices, hot surface ignition sources or ventilated enclosure inlets
must not be located within the fan discharge hazardous area. These fans are unaffected by other hazardous areas.
This item appears on the MLI 0331 Issued Drawing regardless of indoor/outdoor application.

MLI 1643/1634 GT ENCLOSURE EXHAUST FANS HAZMAP
The MLI 1643/1634 GT Enclosure Exhaust Fans do not contain hazardous (combustible) fuel; however, they provide negative pressure
ventilation (see MLI 0436 for air flow rate) for the interior of the MLI 1634 Enclosure which is considered a Class I, Division 2 area due to
potential leakage of fuel gas and the formation of liquid fuel mist. For outdoor installations, the fans are located on the MLI 1634 enclosure roof.
To assure ventilation, there are redundant fans operating in a Lead / Lag configuration. In the event of a worst credible leak internal to the MLI
1634 Enclosure, ventilated gas is estimated to create a Class I, Division 2 plume that extends an estimated 82.3 Feet from the ventilation
system discharge along the discharge flow vector. Studies of the events leading to this plume suggest the probability of an event is less than
0.0076 per GT over a 30-year life. Additionally, the plume from such events is expected to exist for less than one minute due to detection by
either the Control System due to out of limits machine operation or the Hazardous Gas Protection due to fuel concentrations above the limits
established for safe operation (refer to Hazardous Gas Alarm settings for the unit). The Class I, Division 2 plume described above is associated
with the fan exhaust wherever it is located. The interior of any ducting included in the ventilation system is considered a Class I, Div ision 2
envir onment. Additionally, any ducting between the ventilation fan and the actual ventilation exit should be presumed to have a Class I, Division

For an outdoor installation, the fan assembly is classified as "FIXED POSITION EQUIPMENT WITH AN ASSOCIATED HAZARD.
The MLI 1643/1634 GT Enclosure Exhaust Fans emit a hazardous fuel air mixture should a leak occur within the enclosure. Floating position
equipment containing non rated devices, hot surface ignition sources or ventilated enclosure inlets must not be located within the fan discharge

MLI 0905/0906/0907/0969 OIL SYSTEM PIPING HAZMAP
The MLI 0905, 0906, 0907 and 0969 Oil System piping (as applicable) contains hazardous (combustible) mineral oil. Most of the pressure
portion of the system is contained within the return piping forming a Guarded piping arrangement that precludes hazardous leaks. However,
there are a limited number of unguarded separable joints in the GE provided piping. The hydraulic and lifting oil piping is at sufficient pressure
to create a flammable mist at exposed system joints. Where separable joints are included in the installers piping external to the MLI A160

MLI 1634 GT ENCLOSURE HAZMAP
The MLI 1634 GT Enclosure provides acoustic isolation of the gas turbine and contains any leaks of liquid and gas fuels that may occur. The
enclosure is force ventilated with redundant fans (see notes for 0331ALE, MLI 1643/1634 GT Enclosure Exhaust Fans, above) to mitigate the
potential buildup of flammable gas or combustible vapor. Detailed Analy sis of the enclosure (including Computational Fluid Dynamics methods)
revealed the ventilation rate of the system was adequate to meet the Dilution Ventilation criteria for typical minor leaks. However, the estimated
worst credible leak scenario for the GT exceeds the ventilation system ability to maintain effective dilution so the interior of the enclosure is
considered a Class I, Div ision 2 hazardous area. In the event of a worst credible leak internal to the enclosure, there is a Class I, Division 2
plume associated with the ventilation exhaust (see 0331ALE, MLI 1643/1634 GT Enclosure Exhaust Fans, above). The turbine case of the GT
is considered a potential hot surface ignition source. Hazardous Gas detection configured to effect a system trip is provided to minimize the risk
due to hazardous gas buildup and fire / explosion in the enclosure. The compartment also contains fire detection and suppression systems. The
electrical devices internal to the GT Enclosure are rated for service in a Class I, Division 2 hazardous environment. Additionally, to preclude
potential gas build-up within the compartment from external sources, hazardous zones must not intersect the air inlets.
Customer NOTE: The Equipment Outline with principal dimensions is provided as part of MLI D064 Mechanical Outline and can be viewed at
Project Net Folder 10.02.03-0306.
Therefore the Enclosure is classified as "FIXED POSITION EQUIPMENT WITH AN ASSOCIATED HAZARD.
The MLI 1634 GT Enclosure has a potentially hazardous leak source that is maintained non-hazardous in all but worst credible failure scenarios
via forced ventilation and the ventilation inlets must NOT be intersected by any hazardous area zones.

MLI A160 LUBE OIL / FUEL GAS VALVE SKID HAZMAP
The MLI A160 Lube Oil / Fuel Gas Valv e Module contain hazardous (combustible) fuel gas in the Fuel Gas Valv e compartment and the interior of
the compartment is considered a Class I, Div ision 2 area. The Fuel Gas Valve compartment is tied to the GT enclosure such that active
ventilation mitigates the potential for buildup of hazardous gas within the compartment. This also maintains the interior of the compartment at a
pressure below atmospheric. Fresh air is admitted into the compartment through two louvered inlets. In the event of a worst credible leak
internal to the module, there are hazardous gas detectors to notify the control system of the condition, which commands a shutdown of gas flow.
All equipment within the compartment is rated for service in a Class I, Division 2 area. There are Class I, Div ision 1 and Class I, Division 2 areas
associated with the various vents from the Fuel Gas Valv e assembly. These vents are to be routed to a safe location by the installer.
Additionally, to preclude potential gas build-up within the compartment from external sources, hazardous zones must not intersect the air inlets.
The Lube Oil module includes the pump system that supplies lubrication, hydraulic and seal oil pressure to multiple components associated with
the plant and is open to atmosphere. This oil is a Class III combustible liquid with a flash point in excess of 392F. The module contains nonrated electrical devices / equipment. Detail studies have identified a potential mist leak source at the Hydraulic / Lift Oi l pump outlet flange that
should be considered a Class I, Division 2 hazardous area. Evaluation of this connection reveals a limited (2.65 feet) hazardous area beneath
the Hydraulic / Lift Oil pump mount plate. There are no electrical devices or hot surface ignition sources within this area. Additionally, to
preclude potential gas build-up within the compartment from external sources, hazardous zones must not intersect the air inlets.
The Lube Oil supply tank forms the base over which the Fuel Gas Valv e compartment and Lube Oil module are mounted. Although it contains
a Class III combustible liquid below the flash point, the vapor space is considered a Class I, Div ision 2 area to account for the potential build-up
of mist or lighter hydrocarbon compounds that may be dissolv ed in the oil. A demister is used to minimize the emission of combustible mist /
vapor from the Oil Tank vent and a 5 feet radius Class I, Division 2 area is associated with the vent terminus. The Demister motor is marked
Class I, Division 1 group D for service in a hazardous location.
Customer NOTE: The Equipment Outline with principal dimensions is provided as part of MLI 0306 Mechanical Outline and can be viewed at
Project Net Folder 10.02.03-0306.
Therefore the module is classified as "FIXED POSITION EQUIPMENT WITH AN ASSOCIATED HAZARD.
The MLI A160 Lube Oil / Fuel Gas Valv e Module has a hazardous leak source and is a fixed position equipment with non rated devices and
ventilation inlets. Floating position equipment containing non rated devices, hot surface ignition sources or ventilated enclosure inlets must not
be located within the module hazardous area. Other hazardous areas must not intersect the ventilation inlets and exterior non-rated devices.

MLI A042 EXHAUST DUCT HAZMAP
The MLI A042 Exhaust Duct does not contain hazardous (flammable) materials during normal operation or periods of non-operation. During unit
start and shutdown, there are brief periods when unburned fuel will be carried through the duct with the GT air flow. In the event of a false start
or failure to start condition, residual fuel may remain in the duct. A drain for liquid fuel (See 0331BGE and 0331 BHE above) is provided. Start
purge requir ements are in place to assure any residual fuel vapors from these events is safely removed from the duct. Uncontrolled external
release of this fuel from the duct is not expected. The duct is insulated to limit the external temperature to, in most locations, 140F with
maximum temperatures reaching 225F; therefore the duct is not considered an ignition source. Although the duct is not considered an ignition
source, failures of the duct seal can result in the escape of hot exhaust flow during operation so intersection of the duct with hazardous areas
from other equipment should be avoided.
