REFLECTION

For this semester, we had a very interesting course once again after a few semesters we
passes through. That is English Language Society (ELS). Frankly speaking, before I come to
IPG, I was not interested in English before because my English is extremely poor which is
usually called as broken English. Now, I had been studying for 9 semester in IPG including
foundation programme and I had changed my mind, English became the second language
which I love now. I think I have gained a lot of information and learned many new things during
English Language Society for this semester. Personally, I think this course had challenged me
and I gained much experience such as experience in gaining knowledge and skills and
experience in running a programme.
This English Language Society prepares us to be advisors for English Language Society
and guides us on how to run and handle English Language Society activities at school in the
future. In other words, it teaches us on how to run a programme. The challenge for me
throughout this course is how to exceed the expectations of my lecturers. This questions come
on my mind, How can I reinvent something that I have experienced before to make it better?. I
have learnt on how to prepare the working papers and how to implement the activity during
foundation programme. So, I challenged myself to be better than before for this English
Language Society. I need to open up my minds, broaden my horizons and I have to constantly
think and live outside the box.
The purpose of this English Language Society is to promote the English Language and
facilitate activities involving as much of trainee teachers as possible. So, it begins with the
identity of the society. Every classes which are Tesl 1, 2, 3 and 4 have to come out with our own
logo, motto and song for the society. We discussed and the leader of our group divide us into
three groups. Some was in charge in creating the song, and the other group members was
assigned in creating the logo and the motto. It was really a tough task for me because it is not
easy to create a song. But, we put our heads together and at last we was able to come out with
our own identity for the English Language Society. All the four classes had to present the
identity for the society and we did voting system to choose the best logo, motto and song.
Finally, the best logo was chosen from TESL 4. I felt very happy that we was able to create the
best logo for our society. Without cooperation, we cannot prepare for and undergo the
prescribed activities well. With collaboration, we are able to plan and identify problems before,
during and after the programme. These problems are equally placed on the shoulders of all
members to be resolved. We need to cooperate with each other in order to facilitate and ensure

smooth working. Fruitful cooperation between us is when we can taste the sweetness in every
activity undertaken. From this activity, I found that my ability to cooperate with the others is
stronger now. Indeed, there is less chance to cooperate in this semester because we got
practicum and more assignments are tend to be done individually.
Besides that, we also have to come out with one interesting activity that we want to
conduct for the others classes. From this activity, I think I have learned how to plan and conduct
the activities for English Language Society. I realized that each of us have our own responsibility
towards the society. All of us have to sit together and take part in conducting the activity so that
the planned activities will run smoothly. From here, I learned the importance of responsibility
and trust that has been given. If we fulfilled the requirements, then the program will not run
down. Moreover, this task also benefits me in terms of the skills and experience.

As we

participate in an open-minded class discussion, we will learn how to express our ideas and
listen to others ideas as well. This will enriching our learning experiences as we exchange ideas
among each other. Classroom discussions also allow us to discuss our activities with our peers
and help us to make deeper understand on what we are going to do. Furthermore, it also
provide feedback that may prove valuable to the each class.
Other than that, we have to conduct the activities that we have planned. All the four
groups have planned and created many interesting activities which are The Frog Game,
Proverb Relay, Word Chain Story Game in the form of charade and last but not least the
game Minute to Win it I love an activity which is Minute to Win It which was created by our
group. This game consists of 5 levels where 6 groups have to compete till the end. For level 1
the name of the game is Solve the scrambled Letters, then for level 2 they will have Charade
game. For level 3 the game was Phonetics. Then, for level 4 they will play Break The Code and
lastly for level 5 they will play Spelling Chain. In each level, one group with the least score will
be eliminated. By involving in this type of activities, I think it will offer us the opportunity to share,
develop and improve our communication and interpersonal skills in English Language. Besides
that, it will bring us together, regardless of any difference such as race, religion, beliefs,
nationality, age, gender and to share our values through activities in English Language.
In a nutshell, I do enjoy myself very much for had been given a chance to learn this
course. Although my English level is not too good, but I will definitely double my effort to
predominate it. Apparently there are still many things that I had to learn but realizing that
learning is a life-long process, I will exert my great effort to overcome problems in the future
confidently. I hope that all of us will be able to communicate effectively in any life situation and

will be empowered to become individuals equipped with skills, access to information, knowledge
and training. As a result, we will be able to perform efficiently and to integrate and adapt
ourselves to the English Language more easily. In addition, I found that most of the activities
carried out in this course are really benefits us. We can identify the weaknesses and strengths
in ourselves during the interaction within our friends and lecturers. This will give us an
opportunity to improve ourselves. Some weaknesses are corrected whereas the advantages
can be applied as a teacher in the future. All in all, learning English should be fun so that we will
not feel bored and scared of English. It was great. It was interesting and fun course throughout
this semester. I enjoyed the learning process.
