SAINT PETERS LAUNCHES

ORTHOPEDIC INSTITUTE
AND EXPANDS SURGICAL
NETWORK OF PHYSICIANS

aint Peters Healthcare System has

launched an Orthopedic Institute
at Saint Peters University Hospital
and has expanded the number of surgical
practices within Saint Peters Physician
Associates, its network of primary and
specialty practices.
V. Karthik Jonna, MD, of Saint Peters
Physician Associates, along with Marc
Malberg, MD, and Alfred Tria, Jr., MD, of
the Orthopaedic Center of New Jersey,
are orthopedic surgeons seeing patients
at 1527 Route 27 in Somerset. They
are part of the new Saint Peters
Orthopedic Institute, which includes
a dedicated inpatient unit at Saint Peters
University Hospital for patients who
have orthopedic surgical procedures
including spine surgery and total hip and
knee replacements.

Dr. V. Karthik Jonna, a

graduate of the Robert
Wood Johnson Medical
School, New Jersey,
completed an orthopedic
surgery residency at
Maimonides Medical
V. Karthik Jonna, MD Center, Brooklyn, NY, and
the Columbia University
Medical Center Joint Reconstruction
Fellowship in New York. In past years,
he has presented on the subject of knee
surgery and other orthopedic issues with
experts such as Dr. Tria.
A graduate of the Northwestern University
Medical School in Chicago, IL, Dr. Marc
Malberg completed his orthopedic
surgery residency at New York Orthopaedic Hospital-Columbia Presbyterian
Medical Center in New York City. His
specialties include
adult reconstructive
spine surgery, total joint
replacement, and the
treatment of scoliosis.
He is board certified in
Orthopedic Surgery and
is a fellow of the American
Marc Malberg, MD Academy of Orthopaedic

Surgery, the American College of

Surgeons and the North American Spine
Society.
Dr. Alfred Tria, Jr., a
specialist in knee
replacement surgery, is
a graduate of Harvard
Medical School in
Massachusetts. He
completed his orthopedic

York Orthopaedic Hospital-Columbia
Presbyterian Medical Center and a
fellowship with John N. Insall, MD, a
pioneer in knee replacement surgery,
at The Hospital for Special Surgery in
New York. Dr. Tria is board certified in
Orthopedic Surgery, the author of
hundreds of articles and numerous
textbooks on orthopedic surgery, and
a member of The Knee Society.
Surgeons who have joined the Saint
Peters Physician Associates are James
E. Gervasoni, Jr., PhD, MD, Charles
Franco, MD, and Andrew Camerota, MD.
Dr. James E. Gervasoni provides complex
surgical oncology and
hepatobiliary services as
well as general surgery
services. His office is
located at 222 Easton
Avenue in New Brunswick.
A graduate of RutgersRobert Wood Johnson
James E. Gervasoni, MD
Medical School,
Dr. Gervasoni completed his residency
at St. Lukes/Roosevelt Hospital in New
York City, and his fellowship at Boston
University/Roger Williams Medical
Center in Providence, RI. Currently
chairman of the Department of Surgery
at Saint Peters University Hospital, he
is certified by the Society of Surgical
Oncology and is board certified in
Surgical Oncology and General Surgery.
Board certified in General Surgery and
Vascular Surgery, Dr. Charles Franco
sees patients at 2 Research Way,

Monroe Township. He is a graduate of

New Jersey Medical School, Newark,
who completed his residency at the
University of Medicine and Dentistry
of New Jersey and his fellowship at
Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, NY.
Dr. Franco performs general, advanced
laparoscopic and robotic surgeries
addressing diseases
of the digestive tract
and endocrine system
(thyroid, parathyroid,
adrenal glands and
pancreas), and vascular
and endovascular
surgeries addressing
Charles Franco, MD
diseases of the arteries,
veins and blood vessels. He is also
medical director of the Wound Care
Center and Hyperbaric Services, part of
Saint Peters University Hospital, with
facilities in Monroe Township and New
Brunswick.
Dr. Andrew Camerota, whose office is
at 49 Veronica Avenue in Somerset,
graduated from Jefferson Medical
College in Philadelphia, PA, and
completed his residency at Boston
University Medical Center in
Massachusetts. A board certified
general surgeon, Dr. Camerota has
been performing advanced laparoscopic
procedures since the
1990s and roboticassisted surgery most
recently. His areas
of expertise include
minimally invasive surgery
for hernias and of the
colon, stomach,
gallbladder, bile ducts, Andrew Camerota, MD
thyroid and parathyroid.
