Lesson Plan in Mathematics VI

I.Objectives
To organize data and construct a circle graph.
Value: Be systematic and orderly in doing things.
II.Subject Matter
Topic: Organizing Data and Constructing a Circle Graph
Materials: data in a circle graph, questionnaires in manila paper, ruler,
protractor, compass, pencil, crayons, coupon bond, colored chalks
Reference: Mathematics VI book
III. Learning Experiences
A. Review
Reading and Interpreting Data Presented.

1. Which item has the biggest

allocation?
2. How much is the budget on food?
3. Which item has the least
allocation?
4. How much is spent for:
Education?
Savings?
Shelter?

Family Income: P13,000 a month

Others; 10%
Food; 30%

Savings; 15%

Education; 20%
Shelter; 25%

B. Motivation
Do you do your homework and study everyday? How many minutes do you
spend for each subject area?
Mia is a very conscientious pupil, she sees to it that she follows strictly her
schedule. Here is a sample of her schedule:
Subject

Discussion:
1. Who does her homework and lessons everyday?
2. How many minutes a day does she study?
3. Do you think Mia is doing the right thing? Explain.
4. Mia would like to present her schedule for doing her school
work in a circle graph. Let us help her do it.
C. Presentation of the Lesson
1. Present the problem
The members of Math club elected their officers. There are 4 candidates
for president- Edna, Ron, Rojan and Cheska. There are 100 members
voted. 35 voted for Edna, 28 for Ron, 22 for Rojan and 15 for Cheska.
2. Let us make a circle graph for the election result.
Step 1:
Find the percentage of vote each candidate receive. Ask some pupils to
answer it.
35
Edna= 100 = 0.35 or 35%
Rojan=
Step 2:

22
100 = 0.22 or 22%

Ron=

28
100 = 0.28 or 28%

Cheska=

15
100 = 0.15 or 15%

Determine how many degrees correspond to each percent. The whole

circle measures 360. Ask some pupils to solve it on the board.
35% of 360= 126
28% of 360= 100.8 round to 101
22% of 360= 79.2 round to 79
15% of 360= 54
Step 3:
Draw a circle using the compass. Make a center and draw a radius. Use a
protractor, and with the center as the vortex and radius a side, measure
any of the angles found in step 2. Then draw a line to show the division.
Ask some pupils to draw the measured angles and shade it using
different colors of chalk to show differences in the result.
Step 4:
Label the sectors and put a title to the graph.
D. Practice

E. Generalization
What are the steps in constructing a graph?
Step 1: Identify the number of each item. You can make a table out of it.
And find the percentage.
Step 2: Determine the degrees that correspond to each percent.
Step 3: Draw a circle and measure each angles found in step 2.
Step 4: Label the sectors and put the title to your graph.
F. Application
Present by pair.
There was a survey conducted among 1,000 rural families as regards to
their income. Follow the steps and make a circle graph.

V. Assignment
Make a circle graph on how you spend your daily allowance.
Be sure to make a table before doing a circle graph.
Put it on a short coupon bond and make use of art materials. Be creative!
