Installation of LINUX based Operating System
Objective
To install a LINUX based distribution of your own choice using VirtualBox.

Theory
Linux

Linux based operating Systems comes in the UNIX family of operating systems. UNIX is primarily designed to be
used by professionals. Linux is a kernel created by Linus Torvalds when he was a student at the University of
Helsinki. You may find many Operating System based on LINUX. Some of them are Red-HAT EL, CentOS, Fedora,
UBUNTU and many more.

VirtualBox
VirtualBox is the software package used to virtualized the x86 platform, which helps to create multiple
computers (Virtual Machines) having different operating system than host computer.

Assigned task
To install any LINUX based Operating system (I prefer Ubuntu Server) using the VirtualBox.

Step # 1
Create a new Virtual Machine for Ubuntu-Server.

Step # 2
Setting RAM Size to 512MB, as it is by default.

Step # 3
Creating Hard Disk of size 8.00GB, as it is by default and use VDI extension and dynamically allocated option.

Step # 4
Now as machine is created, set path for boot disc. To do this go in its settings than select storage, in storage
option select CD ROM (Empty) and set path as shown in figure below.

As the ISO image of Ubuntu-12.04-server is selected; details will appear in Information Section.

Step # 5
Now Start the virtual machine and follow the Instructions, all will be very simple at partition section select use
entire disk. At next select next to write changes at disk. At Configuring select Install security updates
automatically. At Finish Installation select Continue.

Step # 6
Now log-in with you name and test that internet is connected or not, try ping www.google.com.

Dig the internet to find and select LINUX based OS of your own choice.
Explain / Elaborate the reason of selection.
You may use for reading and selection: http://distrowatch.com/
UNIX can also be Installed in place of LINUX for this lab
Note that this lab will not be checked after 16th February 2015.

Use latest VirtualBox (4.3.20 or higher) also install its Extension Pack.
