arecommontomostpeopleaswellasthedifferentsignalsthat
menandwomencommunicatewiththeirbodylanguage.
Facial Expressions
Facialexpressionswillbeexploredinaseparatemodule.Menandwomenshare
theuniversalfacialexpressions,buttherearesomedifferencesinuseand
perception.Forexample,womentypicallytendtosmilemoreoftenthanmen.
Womenfrequentlysmiletobepoliteorfulfillculturalexpectations.Themeanings
behindsmilesareoftenmisinterpreted.Additionally,peoplejudgethesamefacial
expressionsonmenandwomendifferently.Women,forexample,werethoughtto
beangrierandlesshappythanmen,accordingtoastudypublishedbytheAmericanPsychological
Association,eventhoughtheyallhadthesamefacialexpressions.
Personal Distances
Personalspaceandpersonaldistancechangewitheachindividual.
Everyonehashisorherownideaofpersonaldistance,whichisthe
comfortabledistancethatsomeonewishestokeepfromanotherperson.
Gender,however,oftenaffectsonessenseofpersonaldistance.
Men:Mengenerallytakemorespacethanwomen,andtheyemploylarger
personaldistances.Menarelesslikelytostandclosetoeachother,evenwhentheyareallfriends.
Additionally,theycreatelargerbufferzonesusingitemssuchascoats,cups,papers,etc.Menusually
