Educational Paths

The Educational Paths proposed in Tell me More Education are an effective foreign language
teaching support. They complement the work of the teacher as they address the practical skills
defined in the national curriculum.
Covering the range of basic language skills, oral and written comprehension in particular, the
Educational Paths also place emphasis on developing pronunciation through the exercises
which utilise the speech-recognition mode.
The different linguistic elements focussed on in the Educational Paths, namely vocabulary,
grammar and phonetics, coupled with a cultural, historical and geographical dimension,
nurture the development of these skills.

There are three types of Educational Path:

- based on functional language patterns;
- based on themes;
- based on the culture surrounding the target language.

In the Educational Paths based on functional language patterns, activities are classified
according to their pedagogical objective:
- reinforcing knowledge (Grammar Practice, Sentence Practice);
- encouraging language analysis (Word Order, Fill-in-the-Blanks, The Right Word,
Dictation);
- developing language production, either guided or partly-guided (Written Expression).
The Educational Paths based on themes are centred around developing pronunciation
(Word Pronunciation and Sentence Pronunciation), as well as reinforcing vocabulary through
lexical exercises (Word Association, Picture/Word Association, Word Order).
The Educational Paths based on the culture surrounding the target language comprise
illustrated texts and associated activities (Riddles, Patchworks, Mapmania, geographical
reference maps).

Teachers can use the Educational Paths to meet self-defined objectives. To achieve this, the
Educational Paths can be employed:
* In the initial stages: to introduce, through an exercise or audio recording, a grammatical,
lexical or cultural point which will be focussed on in class.
* As a complement to lessons: to illustrate a functional language pattern, grammar point,
lexical group or aspect of culture.
* As a post-lesson support: to check what has been taught.
* To help students revise throughout the academic year.
* To evaluate students knowledge, as the user options for each Educational Path can be
defined by the teacher, restricting student access to translations, grammar explanations and
the dictionary.

To optimise user-friendliness, teachers can access a detailed description of the Educational

Paths, allowing them to choose activities or exercises according to which linguistic aspects
they want to cover and how much time they have available.
