LESSON PREPARATION
Pennsylvania Academic Standard(s) addressed during this lesson:
(Provide Standard number and statement)
• 3.2.C.A3: Describe the three normal states of matter in terms of energy, particle
motion, and phase transitions.
• 3.2.cA6:
o Identify questions and concepts that guide scientific investigations.
o Formulate and revise explanations and models using logic and evidence.
o Recognize and analyze alternative explanations and models.
o Explain the importance of accuracy and precision in making valid
measurements.
o Examine the status of existing theories.
o Evaluate experimental information for relevance and adherence to science
processes.
o Judge that conclusions are consistent and logical with experimental
conditions.
o Interpret results of experimental research to predict new information,
propose additional investigable questions, or advance a solution.
o Communicate and defend a scientific argument.
• C.N.1.1.2: Use illustrative details to create a strong narrative about an important
idea or experience.
• C.N.1.1.3: Organize details in an effective narrative pattern (e.g., setting,
characters, dialogue, plot, point of view, tone).

Lesson Objective(s)
(Stated in observable and measurable terms)
• Students will be able to describe the motion of particles in solids, liquids, and
gases.
• Students will be able to use the kinetic-molecular theory to express the properties
of solids, liquids and gases.
Assessment Plan
(What will be done to determine if lesson objectives have been met?)
• A unit exam will be given at the conclusion of Chapter 10.
• Students will be graded weekly on the progress of their Weebly page.

Materials:
• Textbook
• Overhead Projector
• Notebook
• Access to the computer lab
• Access to the internet
Inclusion Techniques for Students with Special Needs:
Assignments and instruction will be altered according to each student’s IEP in order to
meet their special needs.
Enrichment Techniques:
Material presented in class will be enriched through the assignments in the computer
labs. Students will be asked to demonstrate the material presented in class through
projects such as Photo Show, Glogster, etc.

Lesson Differentiation (What modifications/accommodations will be made to ensure that ALL students

have access to and are able to participate in the lesson):

Students will be given ample amount of time to create and finish all computer lab
assignments in-class. Those who have access to the programs at home will be able to
make additional adjustments as they see fit. Computer assignments will not be assigned
as homework.

LESSON PRESENTATION

Introduction/Motivational Activities/Anticipatory Set:

An in-class discussion of sections two and three of chapter ten will be conducted. A
presentation of Bill Nye the Science Guy will be viewed in the classroom. Students will
be asked to take notes on the video to assist them in creating their computer assignment.
Detailed Teaching Sequence:
(Provide sufficient detail that would enable a substitute to effectively present this lesson. Bulleted
statements are preferred)
• The teacher will facilitate an in-class discussion of section two and three.
• Students will then watch a video detailing the phases of matter.
• Students will be dismissed to the computer lab.
• The teacher will present the functionality of Glogster.
• Students will be asked to create a virtual poster that highlights the topics
presented in the video and embed it onto their Weebly website.

Guided Practice/Independent Practice/Assessment Activities

The student’s knowledge of sections two and three will be assessed by the creation of a
Glogster poster.
Closure:
Class will close by having students present their Glogster poster to their classmates.
