Information
Data mining (DM) or knowledge discovery in databases (KDD) is an interdisciplinary area that integrates techniques from several fields including machine learning, statistics, and database systems, for
the analysis of large volumes of data.
Orange is a general purpose machine learning and
data mining tool featuring a visual programming frontend for explorative data analysis and visualization, and
Python bindings and libraries for scripting. It includes
a set of components for data preprocessing, feature
scoring and filtering, modeling, model evaluation, and
exploration techniques.
R is an open source package for Data mining. It is
available as a stand - alone application for Data Analysis and as a Data mining engine for the integration
into own products. R provides a wide variety of statistical and graphical techniques, including linear and
nonlinear modeling, classical statistical tests, timeseries analysis, classification, clustering, and others
On completion of the course the faculty will be able
to Understand the theoretical underpinnings of the
main data-mining algorithms.
Assess raw input data, and process it appropriately
to provide suitable input for a range of data mining
tools in R and Orange.
Critically evaluate and select appropriate datamining tool (algorithm, model) and be able to apply
them, interpret and report the output appropriately.
Apply the ideas from the workshop to proceed in
the right direction for their research work using
benchmark synthetic datasets from UCI, IBM & also
on Real time datasets.
