FOCUS ON 2014 vs. 2013 GROUP FIGURES

THIRD QUARTER 2014 RESULTS:
CMA CGM reports record-high volumes and strong growth in net income:
Volumes: significant increase of 8.3%
Operational performance: resilient operating margin (5.7% of the turnover) mainly due to unit cost control
Significant increase of our net income: 201 million USD
Consolidated revenue amounted to USD 4.4 billion: a 6.4% increase compared with the 3rd quarter of 2013.
Carried volumes have reached their highest level over the Groups history thanks to the lines deployed in high-growth
areas and to the strength of the services offered on the main markets.
This growth stems in particular from:

Asia-Europe where steady growth has been recorded.

Intra-Asia and Oceania: in these areas, the Group operates

through expert subsidiaries such as ANL or CNC,
complementary to CMA CGM.

Africa: CMA CGM has continued the development of its

maritime and intermodal activities on this continent. The
Group has expanded its service offering and has opened
new land corridors, under the CMA CGM or the DELMAS
brands.

Reefer transport: CMA CGM has a strong expertise on this

high-growth transport segment. The Group recently
purchased 7,000 new reefer containers and targets to carry
one million reefers in 2015.

FOCUS ON DECLINE OF CRUDE OIL PRICES

Prepared by CMA CGM Bunkering Department
Fuel oil prices have been going down very quickly this year.
From about 650 USD / mt (Rotterdam prices, HFO 380cst), we are now very close to 300 USD / mt
as were finishing this newsletter
We have asked our special detective to climb the stairs up the 27th Floor of the CMA CGM TOWER in order to
interview Farid TRAD, Head of Energy Department. Here are the findings !
MARKETS
The price of oil has hit a five-year low as fears of oversupply in the market continue to mount.
Brent crude was down at $62.50 a barrel on 12 December 2014, afternoon trading, its lowest since October 2009.
Analysts said that markets risked becoming "unbalanced" unless the OPEC producers' cartel decided to intervene.
Saudi Arabia, the cartel's biggest member, resisted calls at last month's meeting to cut production despite the slide in
prices, which have fallen more than 43% since June.
DEMAND
There is a massive weakening in the Eurozone economy and in Asia. The once hungry Asian nations (China, Korea,
Japan) kept prices of crude oil high because of their high demand energy needs. Their economies are now in recession
(Japan) or in slow growth (China, Korea).
Markets are unsettled by official data showing that China's export growth slowed sharply in November, while imports
surprisingly contracted, resulting in a record monthly trade surplus.
The world's second-largest economy is slowing down: Chinese trade data fell well short of expectations and this has
sent traders scurrying for the exits.
Meanwhile, figures showing that the Japanese economy contracted more than initially thought in the three months to
30 September hit the yen, sending the dollar to a seven-year high.
SUPPLY
With advances in drilling technology known such as fracking, the United States has revolutionized the energy
market by producing internal crude oil and shale oil to levels unknown before. The result is that crude that was
once imported to the US is no longer bought and flooding the market. Shale oil producers in the U.S. are producing to
secure internal demand; imports to the US are now historically low. The result is a massive oversupply of petroleum
in the world markets and a significant decrease in world demand.
This has caused the price of crude oil to drop 43% from the high $115.06 of June 2014 to todays $62.50.

FOCUS ON ECA 2015 : Fuels Qualities Forecast

By Philippe RENAUD, Energy & Innovation Manager

Source DNV-GL

The 01 January 2015 sulfur content limitation in fuel will drop from 1% to 0.1% ECA. As a consequence, you will not use
1.0%S fuels anymore but 0.1%S instead. According to our fuels suppliers, 3 different products will be available.
The first one that will represent the main supply is the DMA 0.1%S.
This grade of distillate fuels is already widely used onboard on all vessels calling European ports and Californian coast.
It is a conventional distillate with low sulfur content.
Second are hybrid products.
This is a new range of products. They are blend of distillate and miscellaneous residual and process sub-products. It is
the results of our fuels suppliers investigation to find ways to supply 0.1%S fuels with higher viscosity than distillate
and a lower cost.
So far, the products available on the market are highly paraffinic. The presence of paraffin generates a safety and
technical issue. We have therefore decided to refuse to use these range of products.
Other alternatives products are under development by the majors, each one will be evaluated prior to be introduced
onboard.
Third one is a project of desulfurized residual fuel.
This is a project and such fuels will not be available before 2017. The products will be similar to the RMG380 that we
are using today.
This forecast is the reason why we are modifying the vessel in order to be able to store and handle heated and not
heated product. In term of compliance, have in mind that just 2t of high sulfur fuel are enough to increase the
sulfur content of 500t of low sulfur fuel over 0.20%.
Talking about the compatibility issue, the information received from the suppliers is summarized in the below table:

For CMA CGM DALILA & CMA Ships.
By Arnaud LAVANANT, French Fleet Manager

After 2 years on Columbus Line, CMA CGM DALILA entered the UNITED STATES COAST GUARD quality shipping
program called QUALSHIP 21 PROGRAM.
Less than 10% of all foreign-flagged ships that operate in the United States meet the eligibility requirements of this
program, putting the CMA CGM DALILA in an elite class.
Also, CMA SHIPS, as ship manager, has been recognized by U.S. COAST GUARDS for its eligibility to Quality shipping
in the twenty first century program.
Quality vessel for USCG must satisfy several topics as :
No substandard detention in US within 36 months,
No marine violation or serious marine casualties,
more than one ticket in the US within the previous 36 months,
Successful US Port State Control (PSC)
Safety Exam within the previous 24 months.
Last but not least, shipss flag (French for CC DALILA) has to be in conformity with USCG criteria in terms of
performances according to the IMO (International Maritime organization).
In addition, thanks to the USCG recognition of CMA CGM DALILA general good quality, this certificate valid for 3 years.
Vessel name will be posted on USCG Webside & EQUASIS (worldwide ships quality data base used by insurances,
customers and administrations).
Congratulations to Capt LOSSOIS, Capt DA SILVA PASSOS, C/E BARDONET, C/E CASANOVA and their crew members

The Development and Evaluation Team (DET)

Since last January, a small desk manned with two officers located in a corner of FNSC is investigating new ways of
reducing fuel costs.
This team's first challenge was to highlight the ability to better take into account tidal stream in order to route our
ships in the Channel and the North Sea.
After proving the reality of a potential economy, this Tidal Routing Team assessed the potential of using oceanic
currents worldwide: it started to meet routing providers and selected the most volunteer of them: the French company
AdrenaShips, the world leader for routing the sailing racers (Vende Globe, Volvo Ocean Race ...).

A first real sea test is now in progress on CMA CGM LAPEROUSE with the Software, Stream data are provided by
Tidetech.
In order to know where the scientific research on oceanic currents is going to and to inform the scientific community of
the specific needs of the shipping industry, CMA-CGM participates to the annual Users Consultation Meetings of the
"GlobCurrent Community" sponsored by the European Space Agency and the main European Oceanographical institutes.
Meanwhile, under the supervision of its manager, the team evolved in order to develop CMA-CGM's own routing
algorithm. This will simultaneously manage all data which have an influence on ship's fuel consumption: weather and
current data, vessels' nautical and engine characteristics and every local constraints or regulation. It will provide
masters with the Optimal routing solutions.

Thanks to CMA IT Top management/Elie ZEENNY who selected the righteous way to develop this key algorithm by
challenging ProbaYes and Thals on the first step of this algorithm.
Thanks to CMA IT HFO manager Florent NALIN to conduct the project in front with those labs and to coordinate the
whole project within VPS, Ship Tracking and all involved parts.
In addition, the team is also working on other issues like:
NavStation a 46 touch screen electronic board aiming to replace paper charts on board and to assist the
navigational officer for passage planning,
the PAY AS YOU SAIL concept to better adjust the electronic chart collection reduce the cost
WIND-POWER winner of Concours Lpine in 2012 - aiming to assist our Captains to convert the wind information
into tons of thrust on the hull.
new echo-sounder in order to better detect the depth, particularly for mud layer
more reliable and more accurate speed log to calculate the

ISM certification renewal for CMA CGM International Shipping Company

The UK Flag five-year Audit for the renewal of the ISM (Document Of Compliance) certification
was held on November 12. The certification officially authorizes CMA CGM International Shipping
Company (CCSIC) to operate ships under their flag for the next 5 years (subject to annual
verification).
During this audit, carried out by the UK MCA (Marine and Coast Guard Agency), CCISC was able
to demonstrate the effectiveness and compliance of our safety management system. No noncompliance were identified and the MCA issued as well a new DOC for the Maltese flag allowing
CCISC to operate vessels under this flag.
4 new 10,200 TEUs vessels will soon supplement CCISC current fleet: CMA CGM LITANI, TIGRIS,
URAL and VOLGA.

FOCUS ON MAPS V6 migration

Jean-Charles de LANFRANCHI, Project Manager DSI CMA Ships
DSI CMA SHIPS is glad to announce that the MAPS migration from V5 to V6 is operational since the 1st November 2014.
I wish to thank all fleet captains & payroll team, CMA IT, CS and DSI teams for their work and their involvement.

This is the first big step in the Global Project Deployment of MAPS Onboard application.
Since the beginning of the project in 2013, DSI has implemented the international seafarers payroll: first Euro currency
in 2013 and then Dollar currency in 2014. This allowed a better management of seafarers either permanent or in voyage
contracts and to get a more reliable payroll.
The next step coming on the second quarter of 2015 will be the MAPS Onboard application deployment, of which tests
will begin early January 2015 for a 2 months period.
Fleet captains and DSI have selected four vessels representing various nationalities of seafarers on board vessels and
some technical devices like the type of satellite communication (Sky File, Globe Email).
Fleet Captains will contact Masters of those vessels to give more details about the operation.
The main principle is to ask officers who will have access to MAPS Onboard to work for real during this 2 months
period.
They can capture sign on and sign off of their crew, declare the overtime of their ratings, and finally enter all payroll
variable elements such as slop chest, cash advance, etc ...
At the end of the month; all crew and payroll information will be transferred from MAPS onboard to MAPS shore.
MAPS shore will be able to send all those information to our payroll software (ALICIA) to calculate the monthly payroll.
We rely on Masters, officers and agency teams cooperation to help Fleet Captains, payroll team and DSI to validate
this new application and make it as a great success.

FOCUS ON DNV GL's Maritime Academy

By Philippe MAGRIT, Training Manager

Aiming to reinforce a structured management of the trainings delivered to our Seafarers, it was decided to give to our
RTOs a necessary Train the Trainer training.
From 8th to 10th of December 2014, DNV GL's Maritime Academy welcomed at Marseilles the first Train the Trainer
for Shipping Companies training event.
The scope of Local training is wide as we have several types of trainings, from a simple Powerpoint lecture till
advanced technical trainings. The company trainings are usually given by our RTO (Regional Training Officers) and
often, sub-contracted to officers recognized as expert but not official trainers.
We have now an first homogeneous RTO team who understood, by personal practices and involvement over those 3 days
that trainings cant be sub-contracted on spot.
This training will be extended very soon to all other potential Trainers, including the Sea Trainers.
A first application for our RTO is now to use their reinforced skills to build the necessary training to give to our deck
Officers the necessary expertise to manage on board the Electronical Documents updates, an Appropriate papered back
up and Accurate and controlled Passage Plans.
They are receiving on 11th of December, in HO Marseilles ,all necessary software training supports prepared by Chief
Officer Goran SILJKOVIC.
