CELEBRATION OF FAITH
Dr. Richard Boyce

The Celebration of Faith is coming up this weekend, March 14 and 15!

If you have not already signed up, it is not too late, and I encourage you to
ASAP. These sessions are designed to help you to grow in your faith as part
of the Body of Christ (great for small group participants and anyone looking to
learn more about what it means to worship and serve together); to connect your
teenagers and pre-teens with you and God (great for parents and youth alike); and to experience
the art, beauty, and reverence of stained glass work (great for novices as well as more experienced
artisans). Sunday evening we will have supper following the last program, as we wrap up a
weekend of faith and fellowship together. For more information and to register, please visit
www.eastminsterpres.org or contact Tricia McCormick (tmccormick@eastminsterpres.org)
at the church office.
Parents, dont forget that Jesus Rocks is to be a component of Celebration of Faith. The
youth will have a Camp Experience with help of Kevin Cartee from Camp Fellowship. Join
us from 4:15 - 6:30 p.m. in the gym for camp games and adventures. Children will join their
families in Thompson Hall for the Celebration Meal.
Our COF speakers are:
Dr. Richard Boyce served as pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Belmont, NC, for
many years before joining the faculty of Union Presbyterian Seminary in January 2004.
Recognized for his many gifts as a teacher, preacher, and pastor, he previously served as an
adjunct professor of Bible at the Charlotte campus. Boyces teaching and research interests include exploration of the methods and practices by which the scriptures can enliven and guide
the work of the local church. He has recently completed the Leviticus-Numbers volume of the
Westminster Bible Companion Series for Westminster John Knox Press (2008).
Dr. David Olshine is the Director and Professor of Youth, Family and Culture at Columbia International University in Columbia, SC, for the past 21 years. David is a much sought
after speaker nationally and is the author of 20 books, including the newest resource, Youth
Ministry: Whats Gone Wrong and How to Get it Right, plus the best-selling Studies on the Go:
Proverbs and Philippians, Colossians and 1-2 Thessalonians (Zondervan). David is the co-founder
of Youth Ministry Coaches, a coaching and consulting business (youthmincoaches.com).
Mr. Brian Maness owns Midtown Glassworks in Memphis, TN, creating both traditional
and fused stained glass works of art. He has been working in stained glass for over 20 years
and can create anything as small as a piece of jewelry to the size of your door. He has taught
stained glass classes and has led them at the Annual Recreation Workshop in Montreat, NC,
many times. He loves the creative side of stained glass and loves sharing this art with others.
Invite a friend, and RSVP for this Celebration today!

Have You Heard?

Mary Baldauf, an Eastminster employee for nearly 21 years, has decided

to retire from full-time work. Her last day in the office will be Tuesday,
March 31; however, we are pleased that Mary will begin serving as parttime Care Visitor on May 1.
Mary has touched the lives of many, many members, and you are
invited to drop by March 26 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. for a Tea in her honor. Mary has
graciously provided thousands upon thousands of pieces of candy, and as a way of thanking
her, the church is accepting non-tax deductible gifts to be given to Mary. These gifts may
be placed in the jars marked candy donation located at the Senior Pastors office and EDS
administrative office.

Walking in the Footsteps of Paul - A Trip to Turkey and Greece

Registrations can now be received for participation in the Eastminster educational vacation trip to Turkey and Greece, October 2-15, 2015. We will travel by bus and ship to see each
of the original seven churches founded by St. Paul on his four excursions around the eastern
Mediterranean Sea coast. Surrounding the early churches we will see beautiful scenery and
learn more about the polytheism of ancient Greece and Rome that provided the background
for Pauls ministry. Cost of the trip is $4099+, and you are welcome to invite family and
friends to participate with us. Watch the newsletter in the coming months for more study
courses to be offered focusing on Pauls faith and his work, which will expand our personal
knowledge and prepare us for the trip. Itineraries and registration forms can be found at the
Narthex Welcome Center and at the Reception desk. Please direct questions to Julie McDaniel and Jane Brissette. Send registrations with $500 deposit directly to Alpha Christian Tours
in Raleigh, NC.
