The Glassfrogs are distributed throughout the Neotropics, from Mexico to Bolivia, with an
isolated group of species that occur in southeastern Brazil and northeastern Argentina. They
are nocturnal and arboreal habits. All species have a partial or fully transparent belly. The
region currently has the greatest diversity of species is formed by the Andean Cordilleras of
Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. Often taxonomic dilemmas that must cope with a wide
distribution, as taxa containing many species but it is understood little or nothing of their
evolutionary relationships and history, this due to some form of taxonomists are mainly
based in morphology to develop hypotheses of relationships, using some characters that
were not enough to resolve a phylogeny suitable for amphibians, however, progress in
molecular biology has driven the development of the taxonomy of this family, in this paper
will try phylogeny and systematic approach by Guayasamin et al., 2009. It is essential to
highlight the importance of amphibians ecological level, as these contribute to the
maintenance of the functional relationships of the ecosystem and are indicators of the state
of the environment they inhabit. The importance of the study of this particular family is that
Colombia is one of the richest sites of species belonging to this family, so it is necessary for
their preservation.
