TIME

Time. The fourth dimension, its always there, ticking away, we can measure it
and use it to help us, but most of us dont know a lot about time, when we
think deeply it is an almost impossible concept to grasp; what is it and when
did it start? Time gives us our days and our seasons, our past and our future,
our world record sprinters, and our everyday routine. We rely on our clocks to
keep our world running efficiently, so we can be on time to school and so we
know when to catch the next train. With time comes age, maturity, and
eventually death, it is a seemingly eternal constant throughout our lives. This
makes time extraordinary, yet it is also something which we take for granted;
an everyday part of all our lives. Ever-present but generally overlooked time
can change a landscape in a way nothing else can.
The theme of time can be interpreted in many ways; I could look through
history and produce pieces relating to events of figures. I could look to the
future like George Orwell in 1984. I could observe and examine
the ways in

which age affects the human or affects a landscape or cityscape;

The theme of language first presented itself to me when researching the

structure and vocabulary of this expressive tool as it manifests itself in the
modern day world. Language is all around us, it is said that the need to create
language is deeply embedded within all of us as it is our primary means of
communication. When we think, we speak in our heads and when we talk we
have the ability to convey deep feeling and express ourselves vividly. But
languages have evolved differently an we have hundreds of different and
unique languages, alphabets, symbols and phrases which leaves us with many
barriers, impeding our communication but also immense diversity and culture.
Throughout history people have told stories, which stir up emotion and create
intrigue as well pass on knowledge and morals.
Language is ordinary, for we use it everyday and are constantly immersed in it
yet the way we can manipulate it as well as the its variety, shape and
structure make language truly extraordinary. It is possible to turn a story or
piece of writing into a piece of art either by extrapolating upon themes within
the text or by shaping the language to form shapes and communicate
different ideas.
