(Romans 6:1-23)
I. Introduction
A. This section of the book of Romans is concerned with the WAY OF
HOLINESS (Romans 6:1-8:39)
B. Note the OUTLINE already examined:
1. ALL MEN ARE SINNERS
(Romans 1:1-3:20)
A. The objector would say, If, when man sins, God pours forth His GRACE
so that sin can be FORGIVEN, LET US DO MORE SINNING so that
God will give us MORE GRACE (Romans 5:20, 21)
B. Where sin increased, grace increased all the more
(Romans 5:20).
(Romans 6:1-4).
(Romans 6:1, 2)
(Acts 2:38)
B. They had been Baptized Into Christ and Baptized Into His Death.
They had entered into UNION with Christ, and had entered His
DEATH with all that His death signified. See Galatians 3:26, 27.
C. Following the DEATH had come the BURIAL in BAPTISM!
See also Colossians 2:12.
D. They had been RAISED to WALK A NEW LIFE. This is a LIFE of
HOLINESS! Note below.
E. NOTE THE PARALLEL in Acts 2:36-41 and Acts 22:1-16. There must
be a DEATH, BURIAL, and RESURRECTION!
IV. Freedom From Sin Demands HOLINESS of LIFE
A. The Old Man is Crucified with Him
Galatians 6:14).
(Romans 6:5-23).
B. The one who DIES to his old life is FREE FROM SIN! He is no longer
a slave of sin (Romans 6:6, 7).
C. Jesus was RAISED and death no longer has mastery over Him. Christians
must DIE TO SIN and SIN will no longer have mastery over them
(Romans 6:8-11).
D. Christians must be DEAD TO SIN but ALIVE TO GOD (Romans 6:
11-14). Sin is not the master under Gods system of Grace! Grace breaks
the mastery of sin, which the law could not do.
E. The SLAVE MARKET Analogy
(Romans 6:15-23)
LIFE OF HOLINESS!
(Romans 6:22).
