The Explanation of the Beautiful and Perfect Names of Allaah

Bismillah
Praise be to Allah, we praise Him and seek His help. Whoever Allah guides cannot be lead
astray, and whoever He leaves astray, cannot be guided. I bear witness that there is no god
except Allah alone, with no partner or associate, and that Muhammad is His slave and
Messenger. Peace and blessings be upon Muhammad, his family, companions and those
who follow them till the Day of Resurrection.
Amma Bad
Allaah (tabaaraka wa ta'aalaa) said,

{And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allaah, so call on Him by them, and leave the
company of those who belie or deny (or utter impious speech against) His Names. They will
be requited for what they used to do. (Surat Al-A'raf, ayah 180)}

Tawhid al-Asmaa' wa al-Sifaat is one of the three categories of Tawheed

This is to affirm whatever names and attributes Allaah has affirmed for Himself or which
His Messenger (sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam) has affirmed for Him and to negate the
imperfections and deficiencies that Allaah has negated for Himself or which His Messenger
negated for Him; without
- denial (tateel),
- distortion (tahreef) or
- metaphorical interpretation (taweel), and
- without likening (tamtheel) or resembling them (tashbeeh)
to [the attributes of] the creation, as Allaah (tabaaraka wa ta'aalaa) said,
{"There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer." [Surat al-Shuraa
42: 11]}

1. Allaah
The first name that Sheikh mentioned is "Allaah"
With regard to the Name Allaah, the brief indication of the meaning is: The One Who is
truly venerated and worshipped. The One deserving that He be singled out with all worship
because of His Perfect Attributes of Divinity.
Ibn al-Qayyim said in Madaarij us-Saalikeen:
The Name `Allaah indicates all of the perfect Names and lofty attributes in all three ways
of indication. It indicates His divinity which is the affirmation of all characteristics of
divinity for Him along with negation of their opposites for Him. The attributes of divinity
are the attributes of perfection, being free from any likeness with the creation and free of
any deficiency or imperfection.

As for the particular virtues of the meaning of this Name `Allaah, the most knowledgeable
of the creation (sallallaahu `alaihi wasallam) himself said:
`I could not praise you enough as You deserve. You are as You have praised Yourself
[Reported by Muslim]
It is (the Name Allah) is the Name through which distress is removed, through which the
descent of blessings is sought, and through which supplications are answered. Through it
slips are corrected, sins are warded away, and good deeds are brought closer.
This Name is the reason for creation and command, through it they are established and
confirmed. The creation comes about through it, returns to it, and exists because of it.
There is nothing in creation and no command, nor reward and no punishment, except that
it starts from it and ends with it. That is what brings it about and its reason.
{O our Rabb, you have not created all of this without purpose, free and far removed are
You from that so save us from the punishment of the Fire. [Aal `Imraan (3:191)]}

Allaah! Laa ilaaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped except He), the Ever
Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists... [Surat Al-Baqarah verse 255]

2. Al-AHad ()
The Unique. The One Who is Alone and Unique in every sense. The One Alone in His
Oneness, in His Self, and His Attributes. Alone in His Divinity.
He has no peer, no assistant, no rival, no equal and none comparable to Him. [2]

Say (O Muhammad): "He is Allaah, (the) One." [Surat Al-Ikhlas, verse 1]
Allah's command (He is Allah, the One) negates partnership with Him in every sense,
whether it concerns His Self, Attributes or His deeds. It also demonstrates the
distinctiveness of Allah, in greatness, perfection, magnificence and majesty. [3]
The word Al-Ahad cannot be used for anyone in affirmation except Allah the Mighty and
Majestic, because He is perfect in all of His attributes and actions. [2]

3. Al-A'laa
The Most High. The One Who is above everything, having power and control over
everything. And The One Who is Exalted above every deficiency.
Allah's name Al-A'laa is a clear evidence for those who contemplate that Allah, the most
High is high above His creation and not everywhere (as is the belief of some), neither
within His creation nor surrounded by it in any way. [4]

Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High. [Surat Al-Alaa verse 1]

4. Al-Akram
The Most Generous. The One unequalled in His Perfect Generosity.
Allah tells us in a hadith Qudsi that He loves to respond to the believer who supplicates to
Him:
Were he to ask of Me, I would surely give him; and were he to ask Me for refuge, I would
surely grant him it. (Recorded in al-Bukhari)

Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, [Surat Al-Alaq verse 3]

5. Al-Ilaah
The One Who Alone deserves to be worshipped.

Or were you witnesses when death approached Ya'qub (Jacob)? When he said unto his
sons, "What will you worship after me?" They said, "We shall worship your Ilaah (God REFERENCES

Allah), the Ilaah (God) of your fathers, Ibrahim (Abraham), Isma'il (Ishmael), Ishaque
(Isaac), One Ilaah (God), and to Him we submit (in Islam)." [Surat Al-Baqarah verse 133]
One Ilaah means "we single Him out in divinity, and do not associate anything or anyone
with Him" [2]

Sheikh Uthaymeen (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned the next four names
together since they were explained together by our Prophet (sallallahu alyhi wasallam) in a
hadeeth in Saheeh Muslim.

6. Al-Awwal
The First Who was before everything without any beginning.

7. Al-Aakhir
The Last. The One Who remains after everything else, without any end.

8. Adh-Dhaahir ()
The Uppermost One. The One such that nothing is above Him. He is above everything, and
He encompasses everything with His Knowledge.

9. Al-Baatin ()
The Innermost One, The One Who encompasses and knows the innermost secrets of
everything.

He is the First (nothing is before Him) and the Last (nothing is after Him), the Most High
(nothing is above Him) and the Most Near (nothing is nearer than Him). And He is the AllKnower of everything. [Surat Al-Hadeed verse 3]
Imaam Ibn al-Qayyim (rahimahullaah) said,
So these four names are complimentary to each other. Two names for His eternity without
beginning (azaliyyah) and His eternity without end (abadiyyah), and two names for His
transcendence and nearness.
So his eternity without beginning (awwaliyyah) precedes the beginning of everything that
is beside Him. And His, the Sublime's, eternity without end (aakhiriyyah), remains and is
established after the end of everything besides Him. Hence, His awwaliyyah is actually his
precedence (sabq) over every single thing, and His aakhiriyyah is His continued
existence (baqaa), after every single thing.

And His dhaahiriyyah, is His being above and over every single thing. And the meaning of
dhuhoor requires highness (over something) and hence the dhaahir of something, is
whatever is above it. And his nearness (butoon) is His complete encompassment of
everything (in knowledge), in that He is closer to it than its own self, and this nearness is
the general encompassment.
And what is deduced (of evidence) from this noble verse (surah Hadeed verse 3) is the
affirmation of these Noble Names from Allaah, which necessitate His encompassment of
every single thing, in time, in place, in knowledge, in estimation (taqdeer) and in regulation
(tadbeer). May He be exalted and sanctified in the most lofty manner. [5]
Imam Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah-may Allah have mercy on him) in his tafseer of this verse
(Surat Al-Hadeed verse3) writes;
This is the Ayah indicated in the Hadith of `Irbad bin Sariyah that is better than a thousand
Ayat. Abu Dawud recorded that Abu Zamil said, "I mentioned to Ibn `Abbas that I felt
something in my heart. He said, `Doubts' and then laughed.
Next, he said, `No one can escape this.
Allah the Exalted stated, (what is translated as) "So if you are in doubt concerning that
which We have revealed to you, then ask those who are reading the Book before you.
Verily, the truth has come to you from your Lord. (10:94)"
He then said to me, `When you feel any of this in your heart, recite -He is Al-Awwal and AlAakhir, Adh-Dhaahir and Al-Baatin. And He is the All-Knower of everything.'''
Imam Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah) further mentioned in his tafseer of this ayah, the
following ahadeeth;
Imam Ahmad recorded that Abu Hurayrah said that the Messenger of Allah would recite
this supplication while going to bed,

(O Allah, Lord of the seven heavens and Lord of the Magnificent Throne! Our Lord, and the
Lord of everything, Revealer of the Tawrah, the Injil and the Furqan, the Splitter of the
grain of corn and the date stone! I seek refuge with You from the evil of everything whose
forhead You have control over. O Allah! You are Al-Awwal, nothing is before You; Al-Aakhir,
nothing is after You; Adh-Dhahir, nothing is above You; and Al-Baatin, nothing is nearer
than You. Remove the burden of debt from us and free us from poverty.)
Muslim recorded this Hadith via Sahl, who said, "Abu Salih used to order us to lay on our
right side when we were about to sleep, and then say (the words mentioned above).

10. Al-Baari
The Originator. The One Who - by His Power - originated and created and fashioned the
created beings upon their separate forms without any prior example to follow. And Who
created and fashioned the souls in the wombs.

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong
the Best Names . All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the AllMighty, the All-Wise. [Surat Al-Hashr verse 24]
Imam Ibn Katheer (rahimahullah) mentions in tafseer of this ayah that
Al-Baari' refers to inventing and bringing into existence what He has created and
measured. Surely, none except Allah is able to measure, bring forth and create whatever He
wills to come to existence.
If Allah wills something, He merely says to it,
"BE"
and it comes to existence in the form that He wills and the shape He chooses.

11. Al-Barr
The most Benign and Kind. The One Who treats the creation in an excellent and kind
manner, Who does not interrupt His kind treatment of them, and Who rectifies their affairs
for them.

Verily, we used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most
Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful. [Surat At-Toor verse 28]

12. Al-Baseer ()
The All-seeing. The One Who sees everything, such that nothing whatsoever is hidden from

And Allah judges with truth, while those to whom they invoke besides Him, cannot judge
anything. Certainly, Allah! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. [Surat Ghaafir verse 16-20]

13. At-Tawwaab
The one Who guides His servants to repent, and accepts their repentance. The One Who
guides the servants that they should repent to Him, grants to them that they should repent,
and accepts their repentance again and again.

Know they not that Allah accepts repentance from His slaves and takes the Sadaqat (alms,
charities) and that Allah Alone is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most
Merciful? [Surat At-Tawbah verse 104]
This ayah encourages reverting to repentance and giving charity, for each of these actions
erases, deletes and eradicate sins [2]
Du'aa from Qur'aan 2:128

Our Lord! And make us submissive unto You and of our offspring a nation submissive unto
You, and show us our Manasik (all the ceremonies of pilgrimage - Hajj and 'Umrah, etc.),
and accept our repentance. Truly, You are the One Who accepts repentance, the Most
Merciful.

14. Al-Jabbaar
The Exalted and Almighty Compeller. The One to Whose Might everything in the creation
submits. The Exalted One Who rectifies the affairs of His creation for them, and Who
restores the weak and the broken- hearted.

He is Allah than Whom there is La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but
He) the King, the Holy, the One Free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over
His creatures, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glory be to Allah! (High is He)
above all that they associate as partners with Him. [Surat Al-Hashr verse 23]

15. Al-Haafidh ()
The Protector. The One Who Alone guards and protects the heavens and the earth and
whatever they contain, and Who protects His servants from destruction and from evil.

He said: "Can I entrust him to you except as I entrusted his brother [Yusuf (Joseph)] to you
aforetime? But Allah is the Best to guard, and He is the Most Merciful of those who show
mercy." [Surat Yoosuf verse 64]

16. Al-Haseeb
The Reckoner Who suffices. The One Who preserves the deeds of the creation and will
bring them to account for them. The One Who suffices and protects His servants.

Those who convey the Message of Allah and fear Him, and fear none save Allah. And
Sufficient is Allah as a Reckoner. [Surat Al-Ahzaab verse 39]
Imam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah mentions in his tafseer; And sufficient is Allah as a
Reckoner means, Sufficient is Allah as a Helper and Supporter.

When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at
least) return it equally. Certainly, Allah is Ever a Careful Account Taker of all things.
[Surat An-Nisa verse 86]

17. Al-Hafeedh ()
The Guardian. The One Who protects the servants from harm. And Who perfectly preserves
whatever deeds His servants have done - not losing any of their deeds. And The One Who
preserves and protects His beloved servants from falling into sins and from Shaytan.

And he (Iblis Satan) had no authority over them, except that We might test him, who
believes in the Hereafter from him who is in doubt about it. And your Lord is a Hafiz over
everything. (AllKnower of everything i.e. He keeps record of each and every person as
regards deeds, and then He will reward them accordingly). [Surat Saba verse 21]
Imam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah in his tafseer states;
And your Lord is Watchful over everything means, despite His watching, those who follow
iblees go astray, but by His watching and care, the believers who follow the Meseengers are
saved.

And as for those who take as Auliya' (guardians, supporters, helpers, protectors, etc.)
others besides Him [i.e. they take false deities other than Allah (as) protectors, and they
worship them] Allah is Hafiz (Protector) over them (i.e. takes care of their deeds and will
recompense them), and you (O Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) are not a Wakil
(guardian or a disposer of their affairs) over them (to protect their deeds, etc.). [Surat AshShooraa verse 6]
Another meaning of Al-Hafeedh is The Preserver.
The One Who protects and preserves what He created and Whose Knowledge encompasses
all that He brought into existence. The One Who protects His friends from falling into sins
and the destructive matters. The One Who is Kind to them during their periods of activity
and rest. The One Who accounts the actions of the servants and their rewards. [6]
Aboo Tayyib At-Tabaree (an early scholar), was an old man about a hundred years old. He
was remarkable in that he was 100 years old and his vision and his hearing were sharp. He
was physically capable of running and performing actions just like the young man. He once
came back from a trip by sea and you could imagine, during that time period, traveling by
sea would exhaust people. Rather even today, by the time you land from an 8-houred flight,
you are exhausted. This is with an air-conditioned seat and being served food, yet you are
still exhausted. What about weeks and months at sea?

So when the boat landed and everyone was exhausted, Aboo Tayyib At-Tabaree jumps off
the boat and hops down to the land. People were amazed. How could you be a hundred
years old and jump around like this?
He said:
When I was a young man, I preserved these bodily limbs from the disobedience of Allaah
and Allaah preserved them for me in my old age.

Imam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah mentions in Tafseer;
Verily, He is unto me, Hafiyya
Ibn Abbas and others said that Hafiyyan means Kind.
Meaning, "since He guided me to worship Him, and direct my religious devotion to Him

19. Al-Haqq

worshipping Him Alone is the truth, Jannah is truth, fire is truth, everything that has to do

That is because Allah He is the Truth (the only True God of all that exists, Who has no
partners or rivals with Him), and what they (the polytheists) invoke besides Him, it is Batil
(falsehood) And verily, Allah He is the Most High, the Most Great. [Surat Al-Haj verse 62]
Imaam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah explains in tafseer of this ayah that;
Allah is the Truth means
The True God, besides Whom no one deserves worship. He is the Possessor of the greatest
sovereignty, whatever He wills happens and whatever He does not will does not happen.
Everything is in need of Him and submits to Him.

wisdom in the beginning and the end. [6]

For those who believe not in the Hereafter is an evil description, and for Allah is the highest
description. And He is the All-Mighty, the All-Wise. [Surat An-Nahl verse 60]

It is He (Allah) Who is the only Ilah (God to be worshipped) in the heaven and the only Ilah
(God to be worshipped) on the earth. And He is the All-Wise, the All-Knower. [Surat AzZukhruf verse 84]

22. Al-Haleem
The Forbearing. The One Who does not immediately punish His servants for their sins,
their shirk or their kufr. But rather, He gives them the opportunity to repent.
The One Who bestows favours, both outward and inward, lavishly to His creation despite
their many acts of disobedience and transgression. He is gentle upon those that disobey
him and in censuring them so that perchance they may repent and gives them respite so
that they may become sorrowful. [6]

If you lend to Allah a goodly loan (i.e. spend in Allah's Cause) He will double it for you, and
will forgive you. And Allah is Most Ready to appreciate and to reward, Most Forbearing,
[Surat At-Taghabun verse 17]

knows their meanings]. (This is) a Book which We have revealed unto you (O Muhammad
sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) in order that you might lead mankind out of darkness (of
disbelief and polytheism) into light (of belief in the Oneness of Allah and Islamic
Monotheism) by their Lord's Leave to the Path of the All-Mighty, the Owner of all Praise.

And indeed We bestowed upon Luqman Al-Hikmah (wisdom and religious understanding,
etc.) saying: "Give thanks to Allah," and whoever gives thanks, he gives thanks for (the good

The next two names are discussed together.

24. Al-Hayy
The Ever-Living Who always remains without any beginning or any end, with Perfect and
Ever-Lasting life, who never dies or passes away.

25. Al-Qayyoom
The Self-Subsisting One upon Whom everything depends. The One Who sustains everything
that exists. The One Who has no need whatsoever of anything but rather everything in
existence has total need of Him.
The One Who has perfect life, existing in and of Himself and not dependant upon anyone
else. The Sustainer of the inhabitants of the heavens and the earth, the One Who regulates
their affairs and provisions. The Living (Al-Hayy) includes all of the Attributes of His Self
and The Sustainer (Al-Qayyoom) includes all the Attributes of His Actions. [6]

Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the
One Who sustains and protects all that exists. [Surat Aali-Imran verse 2]

And (all) faces shall be humbled before (Allah), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains
and protects all that exists. And he who carried (a burden of) wrongdoing (i.e. he who

Oh You Who is Everliving and Sustains and Protects everything, I seek assistance through
the means of your mercy, correct for me all my affairs and do not entrust me to my Nafs for
the moment of a blink of an eye. (Mustadrak al-Haakim vol.1 pg.545; Shu'ubul Iemaan of
Imaam Bayhaqi Hadith No.:760, 761) Imaam Haakim and Imaam Dhahabiy have classified
this narration as Sahih.

26. Al-Khabeer
The All Aware. The One knowing completely everything that is, has been, or will be.
Knowing whatever will bring harm or benefit. Knowing the true condition of everything
and the outcome of everything.

Verily, Allah! With Him (Alone) is the knowledge of the Hour, He sends down the rain, and
knows that which is in the wombs. No person knows what he will earn tomorrow, and no
person knows in what land he will die. Verily, Allah is All-Knower, All-Aware (of things).
[Surat Luqman verse 34]

O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and
tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honourable of you with Allah is
that (believer) who has At-Taqwa [i.e. one of the Muttaqun (pious - see V.2:2). Verily, Allah
is All-Knowing, All-Aware. [Surat Al-Hujurat verse 13]

27. Al-Khaaliq
The Creator and Maker of everything. The One Who brought everything into existence after
it had previously not existed. The One Who has always had the attribute of being the
Creator even when there was no creation in existence. This is a fine point that Shaikh-ulIslaam Ibn Taymeeyah (rahimahullaah) brought and made clear that Allaah did not become
The Creator when He created - when the creation came into existence - rather He has

attribute upon the arrival of the creation, rather He has always had this attribute.

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor of all things, the Bestower of forms. To Him belong
the Best Names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorify Him. And He is the AllMighty, the All-Wise. [Surat Al-Hashr verse 24]

28. Al-Khallaaq
The Creator Who creates again and again. The One for Whom it is not difficult to create
anything.

Verily, your Lord is the All-Knowing Creator. [Surat Al-Hijr verse 86]

Is not He, Who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes,
indeed! He is the All-Knowing Supreme Creator. [Surat Ya-Seen verse 81]

29. Ar-Raoof
The Compassionate and Kind. The One Who is Kind and Compassionate to His servants.

And those who came after them say: "Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who have
preceded us in Faith, and put not in our hearts any hatred against those who have believed.
Our Lord! You are indeed full of kindness, Most Merciful. [Surat Al-Hashr verse 10]
Additionally, Imam ibn Katheer's (rahimahullah) tafseer of both these verses can be
referred to get more insight in shaa Allah.

The next two names are discussed together.

30. Ar-Rahmaan
The Extremely Merciful. The Merciful One Who has Mercy as His attribute. The One
possessing tremendous and extensive Mercy.

31. Ar-Raheem
The Bestower of Mercy. The One Who has mercy upon the creation. The difference between
Ar-Rahmaan and Ar-Raheem is Ar-Rahmaan is with regards to the attribute of Allaah's Self,
the attribute He has of extreme Mercy. Ar-Raheem is His bestowing mercy upon the
creation, with regards to His action.
Some from the Salaf (radiallaahu 'anhum) have said: Allaah is Ar-Rahmaan with all the
creation, and Ar-Raheem with the believers. [At-Tabari 1:127, via Tafseer of Imaam Ibn
Katheer]

The Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. [Surat Al-Fatihah verse 3]
Below mentioned are some excerpts from Tafseer of Surat Al-Fatihah by Imam Ibn Katheer
(rahimahullah)
The two names are derived from Ar-Rahmah (the mercy), but Rahman has more meanings
that pertain to mercy than Ar-Raheem. Al-Qurtubi said, "The proof that these names are
derived (from Ar-Rahmah), is what At-Tirmidhi recorded - and graded Saheeh from
`Abdur-Rahman bin `Awf that he heard the Messenger of Allah say,

:

Allah the Exalted said, 'I Am Ar-Rahman. I created the Raham (womb, i.e. family relations)
and derived a name for it from My Name. Hence, whoever keeps it, I will keep ties to him,
and whoever severs it, I will sever ties with him.' He then said, This is a text that indicates
the derivation. He then said, The Arabs denied the name Ar-Rahman, because of their

ignorance about Allah and His attributes.

Abu `Ali Al-Farisi said, `Ar-Rahman, which is exclusively for Allah, is a name that
encompasses every type of mercy that Allah has. Ar-Raheem is what effects the believers,
for Allah said,

(And He is ever Raheem (merciful) to the believers.)' (33:43)
Allah's Name Ar-Rahman is exclusively His. For instance, Allah said,

Say (O Muhammad): "Invoke Allah or invoke Ar-Rahman (Allah), by whatever name you
invoke Him (it is the same), for to Him belong the Best Names (17:110)
As for Allah's Name Ar-Raheem, Allah has described others by it. For instance, Allah said,

Verily, there has come unto you a Messenger (Muhammad) from amongst yourselves (i.e.
whom you know well). It grieves him that you should receive any injury or difficulty. He
(Muhammad) is anxious over you (to be rightly guided) for the believers (he is) kind (full of
pity), and Raheem (merciful)) (9:128)

32. Ar-Razzaq
The Great Provider. The One Who provides extensively for the whole of creation, whatever
they need. And Who also provides the provision of beneficial knowledge and Eemaan for
the hearts of His obedient servants, indicating a Rizq that is general that which is for the
whole creation, that He provides whatever the whole creation needs as regards to
provision and sustenence. And the particular that which He provides for His beloved
servants - in addition to the general provision - the particular provision. The special
provision of beneficial knowledge and Eemaan, providing sustenence for the hearts of His
believing servants.
The One Who provides for all of His servants, there is not a creature on the earth except
that Allaah provides for it. His providing for His servants is of two types:
1. The general provision which extends to the righteous and the sinner, the first and the
last. This is the provision that is required by the bodies.

2. The specific provision - this being granted to the hearts, nourishing them with
knowledge and faith. Also the lawful provision that has been appointed for the benefit of
the religion, this being specific to the believers and apportioned in accordance to their
differing levels and what His Wisdom and Mercy dictates. [6]

And I (Allah) created not the jinns and humans except they should worship Me (Alone). I
seek not any provision from them (i.e. provision for themselves or for My creatures) nor do
I ask that they should feed Me (i.e. feed themselves or My creature). Verily, Allah is the AllProvider, Owner of Power, The Most Strong. [Surat Adh-Dhariyat verse 56-58]

33. Ar-Raqeeb
The Ever Watchful Guardian. The One Who misses nothing whatsoever, aware of all deeds
and whatever thoughts are contained in the hearts of the creation.

O mankind! Be dutiful to your Lord, Who created you from a single person (Adam), and
from him (Adam) He created his wife [Hawwa (Eve)], and from them both He created many
men and women and fear Allah through Whom you demand your mutual (rights), and (do
not cut the relations of) the wombs (kinship). Surely, Allah is Ever an All-Watcher over
you. [Surat An-Nisa verse 1]

34. As-Salaam
The Flawless One, without any fault. The One free from all imperfections and deficiencies,
because of His Perfection in His Self, His Attributes and His Actions and the One Who
renders His creation safe from punishing anyone who does not deserve punishment and
the One Who renders the creation safe from His oppressing them.

Allah does not like that the evil should be uttered in public except by him who has been
wronged. And Allah is Ever All-Hearer, All-Knower. Whether you (mankind) disclose (by
good words of thanks) a good deed (done to you in the form of a favour by someone), or
conceal it, or pardon an evil, verily, Allah is Ever Oft-Pardoning, All-Powerful. [Surat AnNisa 148-149]
In explanation of verse 149, Imam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah mentions;
Meaning when you, mankind, admit to a good favor done to you, or conceal it, and forgive
those who wrong you, then this will bring you closer to Allah and increase your reward
with Him. Among Allah's attributes is that He forgives and pardons His servants, although
He is able to punish them.
It was reported that some of the angels who carry Allah's Throne praise Him saying, All
praise is due to You for Your forbearing even though You have perfect knowledge (in all
evil committed).
Some of them supplicate, All praise is due to You for Your forgiving even though You have

53. Al-Qadeer
The All Powerful. The One Who is able to do all things: nothing renders Him incapable or
wearies Him. The One Perfect in His Power. The One Who - by His Power - created
everything in existence. And with His Power He controls them, completes them, and gives
life and death to them. And with His Power, He will resurrect His servants, reward and
punish them. Whenever He wills something, He says "Be" and it is.

For every nation there is a direction to which they face (in their prayers). So hasten
towards all that is good. Wheresoever you may be, Allah will bring you together (on the
Day of Resurrection). Truly, Allah is Able to do all things. [Surat Al-Baqarah verse 148]

54. Al-Qareeb
The One Who is near. The One who is near to the servants. He draws nearer to those who
perform acts of worship and seek nearness to Him. And He is close to their hearts. He is
near to everyone who makes supplication to Him. In addition, He is near to people with His
knowledge and awareness, witnessing and encompassing everything while He is above the
Throne (Arsh).
He, Exalted is He, is close to everybody, this closeness being of two types:
1. The general closeness which means His being close to everyone with respect to His
Knowledge, Awareness, Seeing, Witnessing and Encompassing.
2. The specific closeness which is specific to His worshippers, those who ask of Him, and
those who love Him. The reality of this type of closeness cannot be comprehended all we
can see is its resultant effects - His kindness to His servants, His care of them and His
making them to be firm upon the Straight Path. [6]

And when My slaves ask you (O Muhammad sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) concerning Me,
then (answer them), I am indeed near (to them by My Knowledge). I respond to the
invocations of the supplicant when he calls on Me (without any mediator or intercessor). So
let them obey Me and believe in Me, so that they may be led aright. [Surat Al-Baqarah verse
186]

55. Al-Qawee
The One Perfect in Strength. The One completely able to do anything. None can overcome
Him. None can repel His decrees.

Those who have been expelled from their homes unjustly only because they said: "Our Lord
is Allah." - For had it not been that Allah checks one set of people by means of another,
monasteries, churches, synagogues, and mosques, wherein the Name of Allah is mentioned
much would surely have been pulled down. Verily, Allah will help those who help His
(Cause). Truly, Allah is All-Strong, All-Mighty. [Surat Al-Haj verse 40]
Imaam Ibn Katheer rahimahullah mentions in tafseer of this verse;
Allah describes Himself as being All-Strong and All-Mighty. By His Strength He created
everything and measured it exactly according to its due measurements; by His might
nothing can overpower Him or overwhelm Him, rather everything is humbled before Him
and is in need of Him. Whoever is supported by The All-strong, The All-Mighty, is indeed
supported and helped, and his enemy will be overpowered.

56. Al-Qahhaar
The Overwhelming Subduer who is never overcome. The One Who alone subdues the
whole of the creation with His Sovereign Authority and Power. Nothing occurs except with
His permission. Everyone submits to Him. The One Who subdues the most obstinate and
renegade tyrants with His punishment and Who subdues the whole of the creation with
death.

Intercession with Him profits not, except for him whom He permits. Until when fear is

and of that which will benefit the servants, and Who is kind to them, and causes that which
is good for them to reach them by a means which they had no expectation of.

64. Al-Mujeeb
The Responsive. The One Who responds to supplications of those who call upon Him
wherever they are and whatever situation they are in - no matter how many they are in
number. And Who responds in particular to those who submit to Him and those in dire
need.

And to Thamud (people, We sent) their brother Salih (Saleh). He said: "O my people!
Worship Allah, you have no other Ilah (God) but Him. He brought you forth from the earth
and settled you therein, then ask forgiveness of Him and turn to Him in repentance.
Certainly, my Lord is Near (to all by His Knowledge), Responsive." [Surat Hud verse 61]
With regard to the beautiful name Al-Mujeeb, Shaykh Abd ur-Razzaaq alBadr(hafidhahullaah) said And indeed as a result of having faith in the name of Allaah AlMujeeb, the slaves certainty in Allaah strengthens, and his turning to Him and hoping for
what is with Him increases, and the disease of despairing from His Mercy departs from him.
And how can the Muslim not trust in his Lord, the Most Generous, while in His Hand,
subhaanah, is the kingdom of everything. So whatever He wills, will be, at the time that He
wills, in the way that He wills, with no addition nor omission, no precedence nor delay; and
His decree, subhaanah, is carried out in the heavens, and the earth and what is upon it and
what is under it, and in the seas and the air, and in all the parts and atoms of the world. To
Him belongs the creation and the command, to Him belongs the kingdom and the praise, to
Him belongs the dunyaa and the aakhira.
And His Name, taaala, Al-Mujeeb shows that He, subhaanah, hears the duaa of those who
supplicate, and answers the request of those who ask, and does not disappoint a believer
who has called upon Him, and He, subhaanah, loves that the slaves ask Him for all their
needs of the deen and dunyaa, such as food, drink, clothing and shelter, just as they ask Him
for guidance, forgiveness, success, assistance to obey (Him), and the like; and He promised
them the response to all of that, no matter how great the request is, how much it is, and
how diverse the wishes are; and in this, there is evidence of the absolute power of Allaah,
subhaanah, and that His treasures will are not depleted nor diminished by (His) giving,
even if He granted the first and the last of the jinn and mankind all that they asked Him, as
is in the hadeeth qudsee.
And it has been mentioned in the Prophetic Sunnah that Allaah, tabaarak wa taaala,
answers those who supplicate and gives those who ask, and that He, jalla wa alaa, is Shy
and Generous, too Generous to turn away the one who calls upon Him or disappoint the
one who confides in Him with humility or prevent the one who asks Him.

120]
