Introduction

Programme Description

The MSc in Marine Technology

(International) has been
developed with the aim of
giving graduates in the
maritime industry access
to a high quality, flexible and
innovative masters programme
with minimum disruption to
their working commitments.
The programme mirrors
postgraduate programmes
successfully delivered by
Newcastle University in the
United Kingdom. Modules are
delivered in the host country
via a combination of distance
learning material and weeklong intensive schools.

The programme enables graduates working in the marine industry

to gain the necessary skills in advanced technologies, management
and business. The programme is dynamic and aims to respond to
the current challenges and demands of the global maritime sector.
The MSc consists of ten 10-credit taught
modules and an 80-credit work-based
project, and can be completed in just over
two years. Modules are also available
on a stand alone basis as Continuing
Professional Development. Each taught
module requires approximately 100 hours
of study time. Students are required to
work through distance learning material
(provided via a web-based virtual learning
environment) before attending a locallydelivered intensive school.

The School of Marine Science and Technology

The School of Marine Science and Technology is the largest school of its
kind in Europe and is the first marine school in the United Kingdom to
provide a single base for all education, innovation and research related to
the sea. Marine Technologists at Newcastle recognise that the use of the
sea and waterways for energy resources, transport and leisure is growing
rapidly, and lead the development of new solutions for sustainable marine
industries. Research activities underpin teaching on all programmes.
The School enjoys a substantial international reputation, with a history
of over one hundred years of excellent teaching provision.

The MSc in Marine Technology (International)

is now being launched in Dubai in collaboration
with Emirates International Maritime Academy.
It is strategically located in the UAE to serve
aspiring students from GCC and neighbouring
countries. The UAE has a thriving maritime
sector and Dubai is fast developing into a
maritime centre.
