GAMEPLAY

&

GAME OUTLINE
Vertical Shoot Em Up game, designed for portable devices with Android and
iOS systems.
The games main objective is to complete each of the ten game levels by
defeating each levels final boss. There is no story/plot, the game simply
intends to be fun and challenging.
The game is very simple to play, the player only needs to move his character
wherever he wants on the screen to avoid enemy attacks and to aim at
enemies to defeat them.
Each level has a large amount of enemies that differ in appearance and
difficulty. All the levels also have one end boss that must be defeated in order
to complete that level and progress to the next one.
Those enemies also drop power-ups on death, when picked up by the player
these power-ups wield a variety of different abilities on the character (e.g.
companion, rapid fire, etc.) that will help him obtain higher scores and finish
the level.
The player may also buy different characters each one has its own special
ability, these characters are bought with in-game currency, Gold, which is
gained by completing levels.

CONTROLS
The game is intended for mobile systems with Android and iOS operating
systems, therefore it is played in touch screens.
The controls are very simplistic, the player only needs to drag the character
around by touching and dragging his finger on the screen, and the character
will follow his movements.
To use the characters special ability the player needs to double tap anywhere
on the screen.

CHARACTER
Multiple characters unlocked with in-game currency. All characters
are cosmetic and have one special ability that can only be used
once per level.
These characters cost Gold to unlock, each character has a price,
some are cheaper others require more gold to unlock.

MAIN MENU
Start Game Allows the player to start a
new game. Progressing and unlocking
levels (will get normal gold reward
depending on the level)

Continue Allows the player to resume his current
game by closing the pause menu.
Exit Exits the current level and returns to the main
menu.
Mute Mutes all the games sounds.

different characters.

USER-INTERFACE
Score, Pause button, Current Level

CAMERA
Autonomous camera, top down view, moving vertically across the
level and background. Player cannot leave the screen. Enemies
spawn outside the game space and enter the screen with the
camera moving.

Menu where the player can check his top scores in each level of the
game.

GAME
MECHANICS
POWER-UPS:
Power ups will drop from enemies on death, the player may pick them
up, and if the player does not pick them up in time they will
vanish/leave the screen.
- Minion/companion spawns a companion that lasts for X tempo and
helps the player by shooting and damaging enemies. Lasts until
companion gets hit.
- Rapid Fire increases the speed at which the character fires the
attacks. Lasts 20 seconds.
- Invulnerability makes the character invulnerable to the next attack he
suffers (only one) lasts until the character takes a hit
- Laser the character fires a beam for 2-3 seconds, this beam does a lot
of damage to enemies and probably one shots them (not bosses)
- Spread fire - makes the character fire in two additional directions, 45
degrees to the right and the left, which makes a total of three active
attacks at the same time in three different directions. Lasts some
seconds.
Special attack: Each character has a special attack that they can only use
once per level and have different effects depending on the character.

ECONOMY
Gold - gained by completing levels, every level wields a certain amount
of gold on completion, and extra gold is awarded by completing the level
with a good score. Gold is used to purchase different characters, the
player may choose which character to play with.

SCORE
Score is awarded by killing enemies, each enemy rewards a certain
amount, tougher enemies will award more score while weaker enemies
will award less. Score is accumulated during the level and at the end is
saved on the Top scores list which the player can view in the Score tab
accessible from the main menu.

ENEMIES
There is a variety of enemies that differ in their Attacks, health, and looks.
Enemies also provide different score amounts depending on their class.
Drone - Very Low HP, dies with 1hit, - these enter the game in large
waves, travel across the screen and eventually leave if they dont die
Drone 2 - Very Low HP, dies with 1hit this enemy attacks horizontally
but moves vertically, he shoots both left and right of his position.
Elite - Medium HP these enter the screen and dont leave until they die
(or stay for too long) simple attacks.
Elite 2 - Large HP These enter the screen and dont leave until they die
(or stay for too long), complex attacks with patterns.
Boss Very Large HP Last enemy in each level, must be defeated in
order to finish the level. Complex attacks with patterns. Summons
drones.
