Senior Scientist / Engineer

Multi-lingual (English, German, and Dutch) and innovative scientist/engineer with over 20 years of
R&D, Engineering and Project Management experience with a proven track record in the development
of medical devices, diagnostic systems and test methodologies. Adept at assessing project goals,
identifying needed resources, and fulfilling objectives in a timely fashion and within budget. Skilled
communicator able to prepare engaging reports and presentations. Team player and dynamic leader
capable to promote cross-functional cooperation and head multi-functional teams.
MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS
Guided a multi-disciplinary team in the development and implementation of an independent Internal
Standard (IS) method for a small Point-of-Care (POC) instrument, reporting instant signal losses and
preventing the reporting of faulty results.
Inventor of a novel pacemaker electrode surface modification and enhancement process. As the lead
scientist and project manager, oversaw the pacemaker lead project, resulting in a reduction of about
50% in required pacemaker output energy. This made the company competitive again within the
industry.
Put in place pacemaker electrode cleaning process, impedance measurement method, and a water
soluble protective electrode coating, saving company approximately $500K yearly in rework costs
and increased the safety of patients.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Senior Scientist - WELLSTAT DIAGNOSTICS * Gaithersburg, MD * August 2007- January 2015
Point of Care (POC) Electrochemiluminescence (ECL) Instrument Development Company.
Key member Systems Integration team, providing technical and project management support for
development, analysis, and implementation of complex systems in the engineering of medical devices.
Selected Achievements:
Optimized operational sequences for POC instrument using Microsoft Visual Studio 2000, creating
dramatic 200 to 500% improvements in accuracy, precision, and carryover.
Technical point person and project manager of an ECL independent fluorescent Internal Standard
(IS) method, reporting instant signal losses, preventing the reporting of faulty results and opening the
possibilities for signal loss corrections.
Integrated, evaluated, and validated instrumentation hardware, software, and assay formulations.
Delivered crucial diagnostic and operational feedback on numerous POC instrument processing
steps, shortening the development time by at least 25%.

Streamlined communication between mechanical, electrical, software, and hardware engineers, as

well as assay chemists within Systems Integration team, resulting in significant savings in
development time.

Sr. Development Engineer - BIOVERIS * Gaithersburg, MD * March 2001- July 2007

ECL Instrument Company serving the Life Science industry, with contracts including U.S. Army.
Pivotal contributor to design, improvement and implementation of existing and new instruments and
processes.
Selected Achievements:
Streamlined workflow, saving hundreds of production and rework hours and reducing number of
parts by implementing a 2 electrode flow-cell, making the reference electrode obsolete and the flowcell much simpler to manufacture.
Eliminated chance for instrument damage/failure by creating a reagent identification method that
determines whether operator correctly or incorrectly connected 4 bulk reagents to reagent-specific
connection inlets.
After acquisition by Roche, was among a very select group of former BioVeris employees to join
Wellstat Diagnostics. Chosen by Executive Management for self-motivation, exceptional work ethic,
team spirit, and innovative solution strategies.
