Practice 6: Scalar Control of Induction Motors


1- The Induction Machine in the SimPowerSystems Library

Draw the following simulation model, set the internal parameters of the motor as described
below:

Simulate the model (fixed step 10e-6 Ode1).


Verify, using a U/f = constante command law that, for a given torque, the amplitude of the
current remains roughly the same.

2- Building a 3-phases PWM DC/AC converter.

Draw the simulation model of the inverter, using the universal bridge, discrete PWM
generator and 3 phase series RLC branch of the SimPowerSystem Library :

Simulate the model for different values of the references (frequency and amplitude):

Perform the spectrum analysis of the output voltage using the FFT function from the
powergui interface :

See the influence of the PWM carrier frequency (f) and the reference voltage amplitude (e).

3- Open loop scalar control

Using the motor and the inverter bridge previously designed, built the open loop scalar control
model:

As reference frequency, replace the constant block by a repeting sequence block.

Perform the simulation:

- For a constant value of the reference frequency, simulate the load torque perturbation.

4- Closed loop scalar control

- Modify the model to create a closed loop speed regulation.
