Overview and Purpose:

Using the fable of The Blind Men and the Elephant, students will acknowledge that everyone has
a different perspective based on personal experience. Students will also learn that perspective is
an ever changing philosophy. Students will apply what they learn about perspective in
connection to the anti-bullying unit they have been taught.
Common Core State Standards:

SWBAT cite strong and thorough textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says
explicitly as well as inferences drawn from the text. [RL.9-10.1]

SWBAT initiate and participate effectively in a range of collaborative discussions (one-on-one, in


groups, and teacher-led) with diverse partners on grades 9-10 topics, texts, and issues, building on
others ideas and expressing their own clearly and persuasively. [SL.9-10.1]

SWBAT demonstrate command of their conventions of standard English grammar and usage
when writing or speaking. [L.9-10.1]

Activity:

SW answer discussion questions regarding the fable, The Blind Men and the Elephant.
SW look at an optical allusion of a cow. Using their personal perspectives, students will
work in groups to figure out what they are look at when they view the photo.
