This year at rapid 2013 we saw that the focus of the event was on 3d printing companies and there was about
a 70% of the show on 3d printers and 20% on 3d scanner companies and 10% on 3d printing supplies. So we
saw only a very small percent of 3d scanners this year the tendency is more on 3d printing and 3d scanning is
going more of to animation.

Direct Dimensions
Shape shot from Direct Dimensions is now presented as a 3d photo booth where you can take your 3d image
like in a regular photo booth and then have it 3d printed at the same time. They have started selling this booth
around the US. Here are some nice 3d printed faces.
At this booth we had the chance to also see a holographic display where you can see your 3d captured face in
a form of a hologram. This device has a very low resolution and you have to view it with a flashlight. You have
to remember that there is no animations on this device so you cant see it like a Star Wars hologram animation
instead you get photographic hologram in order to see it you have to move the display.
HDI Advance
At the show we caught up with Thomas Thong. He used to be president and owner of 3D3 solutions and to our
surprise he told us that he had sold 3D3 solutions to HDI advance and that he was going to be sales representative and development engineer of the company. So now it is called HDI Advance. They are selling the 3d
scanners as HDI Blitz and HDI Advanced. Our best wishes for Thomas in this new venture in business. You can

NIKON
Presented the Metris 3d scanner with a MCAx premium portable arm. We had the chance to see the 3d Metris
scanner at work and Andy Stults senior sales applications engineer from Nikon Metrology explained what are
the advances in this technology. One feature is that the Metris can do 3d scanning on reflective objects witch
makes it a 3d scanner apart of other 3d scanning companies and the other feature is that it can 3d scan on black
objects with no difficult.

The GoScan 3d is more portable and lighter scanner than other handheld 3d scanners Creaform compacted its size for easier handle and there is no need to do
