I am so happy to be among the 18 Mogadishu firefighters and

SOUNDBITE (Somali), Mogadishu Firefighter Abdullahi

Ibrahim Seyid:
Today we received two practical trainings. One part was how
to put off a fire and the second was how to rescue victims who
have been trapped or injured in a building. We have been
taught how to climb a ladder; we were also taught how to
access a burning building using the ladder, through the safest
place. Trainers ordered us to move while crawling down
because the fire is always burning up and so you have to
move under.

This is an advanced fire fighter course, which is more about
leadership, command and control and thats what we were
doing today. We have gone through other lessons, which are
very crucial but the buildup, the climax is the instant
command and control and as we have witnessed today, we
have really done well. Good communication, they was good
communication. They were sharing what was the best way to
deal with the situation. We have seen them use rescue lines,
which of course requires a lot of training but at this level, they
have really done well.
