Preparatory Works
Preparation of schedule of pre-cast girder delivery at site, so that necessary crane equipment
route & lifting system will be determined at an early stage. Determine lifting points based on
the girder plan.
Diaphragm dowel locations are coordinated with girder pre-cast supplier. Coordination with
LGUs will be undertaken for the advice of activities.
Traffic Management
Working area enclosure during column construction will be retained. If necessary,
adjustments of barricades and fences shall be made to properly accommodate entry and exit
of trucks and equipments.
The work area will be enclosed by movable fences and barriers and will occupy minimum
agreed width including the centre reserve. (See attachment 1)

Girder delivery / erection will be done during night time starting 10 PM to avoid the truck ban
and mitigate the traffic congestion on the affected area.
Directional lights, lighting devices and reflecting stickers will be properly set up and mounted
to give early warning and safe travel to the motorists and the riding public.
Traffic aides and support crew will be oriented and enlightened appropriately on their specific
duties and responsibilities to prevent unwanted accidents and mishaps.
Survey Check
Prior to girder installation, the surveyor should check the elevation and alignment of bridge
seat / bearing pads. Any discrepancy from the plan should be reported and necessary
adjustments be taken care of immediately. Physical check of distance pier head to pier head
will be undertaken. Girder sides are clear marked on the bearing pads to permit accurate
positioning.
Crane Position
A 200 tonner crane will be positioned in between piers as shown in attachment 1. The
following parameters are to be considered as initial position of the crane before girder
erection.
Crane will reposition as girders are positioned (See attachment 3).
Cable Sling
Lifting points on the girder will be marked properly. The cable sling system will be assembled
as shown in attachment 2. Other considerations to be followed are outlined below.
Girder Transportation
Girders will be transported (1) one piece every delivery to site during night time by dolly
trucks. While waiting for their turn in girder lifting via the 200 tonner crane, they will park
along EDSA beside the center reserve. Traffic cones with reflecting stickers will be positioned
immediately beside the dolly trucks. The dolly trucks will enter the enclosed/construction area
in reverse gear. Hauling route will be checked prior to transportation. (See attachment 3.)

Precautionary Measures
Traffic management is followed
Barricades are kept clean and neat for full
visibility
Adequate lighting is provided during hours
of darkness
Toolbox talks stress that workers must stay
within barricaded area
High visibility vests are worn
Trained riggers only will hook up chains,
slings, wire ropes of other lifting equipment
All chains, slings, wire ropes / shackles will
be subjected to inspection by safety group,
and will be tagged with their capacity
Weights of items will be calculated and
safety factor added to ensure capacity of
slings/chains/wire ropes is not exceeded
Only personnel directly involved in lifting
operations will be permitted to enter the
lifting area
Provide tag lines to both ends.
Turning radius are checked at set up location
and spotters are on hand to access operations
Ensure use of safety harness.
Ensure safety measure prior to climbing
