shot with the boy, as a result of this I didnt need to choose the
background colour or effect.
2. I opened the fonts and choose an appropriate style and colour.
3. Afterwards I choose changed the size and opacity and kerning depending
on how important the scene is for example in some scenes the title is
more prominent for example the stair shots however in some shots it is
less obvious as I have decreased the opacity using the tools provided in
iMovie.
4. And then I looked over it and edited small bits like timing of the entry of
the title to fit in with the sound and editing
A step by step explanation of how you edited certain shots.
The cross blur shot was between the shot of the teddy bear swinging and the
shot of the boy turning this head. I decided to edit this shot with the cross blur
effect because it would suggest to the audience the prop and the main character
are linked together.
1. I used the cross blur transition and dragged it to the timeline in between
the two shots.
2. I then edited the timing and duration of the transition to be slow so that
the audience can see the mix of the two shots which will suggest to them
the link of the prop and the character, which we as a group wanted to
establish in our film opening.
Ken burns and crop, a new thing I learned on the iMovie was to use the ken
burns effect, even though I had previous experience with cropping I never really
knew what or how you use the ken burns. However for this project I gave it a go
and found out that ken burns effect is a type of panning and zooming effect. I
have used this effect in the shot where the boy is turning his head. It made the
original shot zoom and plan from the right hand side, which in my view point
gave a more cinematic effect.

To emphasise the cinematic effect even more for the Hollywood film style look, I
put in a slow motion this shot and some other shots like the bear swinging. This
is because it will give the audience longer to form connections and links between
the hints we have given them through the editing. I have also done the opposite
and made the others shots fast motion e.g. bear swinging. It is supposed to
portray and give the anxious feeling or a sense of time slipping away. This gives
hints to the rest of film or the synopsis as the boy becomes under the monsters
control even more so with time passing, therefore as the audience member we
want time to be slower so that the boy can be saved, as an effect of this it makes
the audiences heart beat faster and feel more involved in the narrative.
I pressed the crop tool on the bottom right hand side of
the timeline. Then I clicked ken burns and cropped a bit of
the outside part so the shot focuses more on the boys
face and his sinister expression. I made the ken burns
zoom in from the right hand side by pulling the arrow to
the direction I wanted the pan to travel. I experimented
with different angles but the right hand side angle seemed
the most cinematic effect.
Afterwards I changed the lighting using the video
adjustment tool and edited the lighting to be more lowkey, almost black and white, but its not purely black or
white which suggests the state or the situation the boy is
in because of the possession. The white colour balance is
supposed to represent his innocence of young age which
has been tainted by the possession of the monster, and
this is represented through the black and stark contrast to
the white that makes a dark grey and black colour in the shot.
