Installation

Installation
This chapter describes installation and setup procedures for the standalone FCAT1000-N media
converter.

Internal settings, adjustment, maintenance and repairs may be performed only by a

skilled technician who is aware of the hazards involved.
Always observe standard safety precautions during installation, operation and
maintenance of this product.
The FCAT1000-N media converter is designed for standalone installation and is delivered as a fully
assembled unit.

Package Content
The FCAT1000-N package includes the following items:

One FCAT1000-N unit

Technical documentation CD

AC or DC power cords

Installing FCAT1000-N
The installation of the FCAT1000-N media converter includes the following steps,

Connecting the unit to power mains

Connecting the SC interface

Connecting the Ethernet interface

Site Requirement and prerequisites

AC-powered FCAT1000-N units should be installed within 1.5m (5 ft) of an easily-accessible grounded
AC outlet capable of furnishing the voltage in accordance with FCAT1000-N nominal supply voltage.
DC-powered FCAT1000-N units require a -36 to -72 VDC power source, which must be adequately
isolated from the main supply.
The ambient operating temperature of FCAT1000-N should be 0 to 50C, at a relative humidity of up to
90%, non-condensing.

Connecting to Power
FCAT1000-N is equipped with either AC or DC power supply. AC or DC power is supplied to
FCAT1000-N via a standard power input connector on the rear panel.

Connecting to AC Power
AC power should be supplied through the standard power cable terminated by a standard plug. The AC
power chord is provided along with the unit.
To connect AC power:
1.

Connect the power cable to the power connector on the FCAT1000-N rear panel.

2.

Connect the power cable to the mains outlet.

The unit turns on automatically upon connection to the mains.

Connecting to DC Power
DC power is supplied to FCAT1000-N via a compatible DC cable for attaching -48V DC power supply
lines. While connecting to the DC power mains, the polarity needs to be taken care as per the indications
provided on the DC cable.
The DC power cord is provided along with the unit.

Connecting the Ethernet Interface

Ethernet interface uses RJ45 connector
To connect Ethernet interface
Connect the line cable to the RJ-45 connector designated to Ethernet interface.
