DBMS PROJECT LAB - GUIDELINES

SUBJECT CODE: BCA 452


Guidelines:
1) Students should have to develop a mini project using Oracle as back end and any
front end tool like Visual Basic, VB .Net, etc.
2) Students will form batches, each batch containing not more than four students
3) Continuous Internal Assessments (CIA)
a) Continuous Evaluation (Weekly reports and Project progress) (20 marks)
b) Presentations/Demonstrations
(20 marks)
c) Project Report
(10
marks)
4) The practical examination carries 50 marks divided as follows:
a)
Interface Design
(15 marks)
b)
Validation
(10 marks)
c)
Reports/Presentation
(15 marks)
d)
Viva Voce
(10 marks)
Note:

Students must show their project status to their respective guides according to the
project schedule.

The students are directed to put their initials in the register maintained with
respective guides after the submission of each of the project deliverables.

All the students are expected to adhere to the schedule in strict terms. Any kind of
indiscipline or irregularity will be handled according to the norms

The last date of each phase would be considered as deliverable date.


Each student is expected to maintain project diary.

Proposed System, Benefits of proposed system

Functional Requirements: Functions or solutions the software should


provide how the system should react to respective inputs and how the
system should behave in exceptional situations.

Software and Hardware requirements for proposed system Front end


and back end

Rough sketch of the screen shots and the table descriptions

Requirements Specification Document of at least 5 pages


should be submitted at the end.
3. SYSTEM DESIGN PHASE

28th Nov 5th Dec 2014

System models:
Block diagram can be given for the system as a whole
DFD / ER Diagram to model how the data is processed in the
system. [Context level DFD]
Database Design:
Database Tables must have Primary keys and foreign keys
information with normalized forms. For example [1NF, 2NF, 3NF,
Boyce Coded Normal form etc.]
Data Dictionary Organized listing of all data tables with fields
that are pertinent to the system with clear definitions to get better
understanding of inputs, outputs, components and intermediate
calculations.
Check conditions & default values should be used if required
Interface Design
Interface between the subsystems/modules
Interface between user and system
Specify Algorithms, related data structures if required

Complete Design Document of at least 15 pages should be


submitted at the end.
4. SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT and UNIT TESTING PHASE
10th Dec 23rd Jan 2015

Coding as per the standard guidelines


Testing of individual modules / subsystems
Field level validation
Form level validation
Validation in stored procedures (if applicable)

One Preliminary demonstration should be made to the guide


during this period with presentation.
5. SYSTEM TESTING PHASE

28th Jan 6th Feb 2015

Testing the system as a whole after integrating the subsystems


Evaluation of project by Guide [Feedback].

Test Cases document for each screen (not less than 10 pages)
should be submitted.
6. DOCUMENTATION PHASE

11th Feb 18th Feb 2015

Report organization and structure.


Draft Report submission (without code /without binding)
Feed back on draft report
Recommendations to be incorporated as per the feedback

FINAL DOCUMENT AND PROJECT SUBMISSION
